Breaking Bad follows protagonist Walter White (Bryan Cranston), a chemistry teacher who lives in New Mexico with his wife (Anna Gunn) and teenage son (RJ Mitte) who has cerebral palsy. White is diagnosed with Stage III cancer and given a prognosis of two years left to live. With a new sense of fearlessness based on his medical prognosis, and a desire to secure his family's financial security, White chooses to enter a dangerous world of drugs and crime and ascends to power in the world. The series explores how a fatal diagnosis such as White's releases a typical man from the daily concerns and constraints of normal society and follows his transformation from mild family man to a kingpin of the drug trade.

He went to one interview, and gave up, went right back to crime. That's not "trying." You want to try, you try for weeks, sometimes months. You stay persistent. If someone says you need certain qualifications you get them. First thing he says to Badger almost verbatim is "That job is stupid." Because of pride. Go spin the sign, make some money part time, keep looking for a better deal. If he had gotten his foot in the door with that company, and stuck with it, he might have been able to impress the management and gotten a better gig. Jesse takes the shortcuts, and the easy way, until it ultimately costs him his genuine innocence and puts so much trauma on him that he's a broken person in a literal cage.

The only thing that Jesse has missed was pointing out the advantages of hiring him as a salesman. This is a huge blunder and personally as a salesman myself I can say that selling yourself despite not having a college degree should be the simplest thing to do as a pursuing salesman. There are no perfect candidates and no one will ever become one, which is why dealing with rejection and being convinced by yourself are the only keys to success.

What I always enjoyed was how Jesse was the most human of the main characters. He had his faults, he made mistakes but he was always trying to improve and overcome them. Whereas initially I would have seen myself a little more in Walt - making difficult ethical choices with "his family" as his reasoning for doing such things. But by the time they got to the 3rd season or so, he was absolutely changed and the only voice of morals and ethics was Jesse Pinkman.
@knuckles7410

Jesse Pinkman was obviously a mistake of the directors. It was supposed to be just a starter for the main plot, but because he had connection they kept him forever, his character degraded in it's refinement, he didn't made any sense anymore and was truly painful to watch.

That’s why Jesse was my favorite character. Despite being a criminal, he was a good human being who cared deeply about the people closest to him. It’s sad how much his family neglected him, because he probably never would’ve been a criminal in the first place if he had a good support system. @@SpectorEuro4 any idiot can sell something. The problem is the business Jesse tried to apply for here didn't want to take a chance on him and give him the boots on the pavement experience he needed instead gatekeeping him because he's "inexperienced". Its not unlike these days with corporations whining about how "nobody wants to work anymore" completely ignoring the fact its entirely THEIR fault they made it next to impossible for the average person to get let alone keep a job between outsourcing, stagnant wages, and now all this AI tech that's come around in the past few years. Don't get me started on businesses that claim to be "hiring", but never give you a call back even after you send out a follow up e-mail. Not saying Jesse is a saint, but if the business he applied to in this episode had taken a chance on him, he could've avoided slipping back into selling drugs and avoid all the emotional turmoil Walter White put him through as a result. In fact, I'd say a lot of people get into selling drugs, prostituting themselves, or whatever because businesses and corporations think they're too good to hire the average Joe/Jane who's struggling to be gainfully employed in the first place.

I loved this scene because it shows quite accurately how it is difficult for criminals to leave their former life. Even for a person who is let's say freshly out of school, no skills and eventually indebted it is tricky to find a solid job. Now imagine someone who apart from mentioned points: has crime record, no experience except unfavorable things that got him into jail in the first place and no job history. Living honestly is a bit more difficult when you are predestined to get only crappy jobs thanks to these obstacles. Not making excuses for getting into the criminal life, just making observation that getting out of it may often not be so easy.
