Scott Schoen Elsa Mars is German, who came to the US to live in Florida several years after her horrible ordeals in Nazi Germany, so what accent should she have than German when talking or singing this song? If not she would sing not as Elsa Mars, a German born women, but as.... !

ali cia LoL I am German and I don't hear an accent. She, for me, speaks and sings a really good English...it is so fascinating that native speaker hear an accent ^^ In London I just said hello to someone and he asked where I am from...xD this is so strange. Even if I speak good English and I hear the difference between a good German and a bad German speaker of the English language I may not hear the accent. And to add: She sings so great. Love this

Each version brings something to the table. Lana as the original writer brings an authenticity and emotion to the song which only she can understand. Ms. Lange offers her own storied and long life to bring a sense of wisdom and age to the song. There is no superior. Only different.

It doesn't matter if it fit the 50's or not. The song is perfect for this episode, reason being, Edward Mordrake was summoned, and whenever summoned, he takes another life of a fellow carnie to "hell" with him and his demon second face, the evil part of who he was. "No one's gonna take my soul away" is like her saying that it isn't going to be her that dies, even though clearly she didn't recognize who he was when he appeared to her. The song is eerie, and mysterious, which is perfect for the scene it is sung in. whether the song style is 50's or not is irrelevant. I think this song is perfect, and she sung it perfectly. LOVE IT!!!!!!!!!

Both versions are great but I prefer this one over Lanas. Electra Heart I think that was somewhat intentional. Elsa Mars isn't supposed to be a great performer. Her character is that of someone who strives for stardom but falls short due to lack of talent.

My god she sings this song perfeeectly. So much power and emotion wow. The scene in the show was absolutelyyyy CAPTIVATING. I replayed it at least 4 times. Jessica lange is so talented beautiful and powerful.

I had the pleasure of subtitling this, among several other, seasons of this show into Norwegian. Freak Show, and this performance in particular, is one of the greatest pleasures I've ever witnessed workwise.

Jessica Lange has made this song her own. Her vocal performance of this song completely threw Lana Del Rey out the water. I loved this song. Then I heard Jessica sing it and can't even listen to the original. Her raspy voice, the evident show of years in her face and the character of hers from American Horror Story sold "innocence lost" far better than Lana did. I loved all her characters in the series. Always refined and held a certain poise about them. I just love Jessica
