It's rare to hear a jeepney barker in the Philippines saying 'good morning' and wishing you to have a great day, but when it happens, it feels so good." These warm greetings from the barker not only brighten up your day but also create a sense of positivity and connection during your commute. It's a simple gesture that reminds us of the power of kindness and the beauty of human interaction🇵🇭🇵🇭🇵🇭🇵🇭🇵🇭🇵🇭🇵🇭🇵🇭🇵🇭🇵🇭🇵🇭🇵🇭🇵🇭

not all jeepneys are small, theres 12 by 12 which can seat up to 24 people additional 4 people will be hanging in the back if it's a rush hour. they're mostly called patok jeepney's they are modified jeepneys with a lowered front suspension and beautiful airbrush design and some good sounds system.

i absolutely loved this episode! i am happy you shed some light regarding the jeepney phaseout. because that is one thing most people do not understand as to why jeepney drivers are quite against the jeepney modernization. its not that they are against the idea of modernizing the jeepneys, its just that, it will be unfair for them to pay for a brand new unit that costs 2.4 million pesos (especially in this economy??!?!?) and will end up not owning the unit. isipin mo, pauutangin ka nga ng gobyerno, mababaon ka sa utang, and hindi mo man lang maoown yung unit. part ng sahod or kita mo, mapupunta lang sa pag babayad ng inutang mo instead na ikeep mo para may mapakain ka sa pamilya mo. nothing's wrong with having things modernized naman, as long as hindi mapag iiwanan ang masa

The barker image Jessica had was actually the "konduktor". The job entails collection of fares and also the barker's tasks. It is still common in Bacolod (the place where she spent her elementary years), especially for longer routes like from one city/municipality to another.

Jessica, I think your talking about the "konduktor" (term used in Cebu).This person assists the driver. Can also act as barker but mostly, he takes the payment of the passengers. Before, they would tuck the paper bills between their fingers but now they have those belt bags to make things convenient. By the way, the buses nowadays would require license for you to be a konduktor. Love your videos Jessica, its very educational and so "homey". Thank you for these videos.

I was smiling the whole time you were doing that. I was one of the kid in Alabang tulay sweeping the jeepneys on the terminal and getting 1 peso per sweeping/cleaning service. Your video brought me back to that time. Now living here in Canada, i am proud being a poor doing that kind of job 'coz that really taught me what really life is, that life is a constant fight amd struggle. I always looked to where i came from and told the story to friends here that i cleaned jeepneys, that i was once a cigarette vendor, balut vendor and newspaper boy. I'm glad i was born poor.

I love how you talked about the issue on Jeepney Phaseout at the end of your vlog. Really an eye-opener to understand the standpoint of everyone involved--jeepney drivers and commuters alike. Indeed, careful planning is key.
@jp95able
@jp95able Жыл бұрын
careful planning? how careful exactly? because the plan is already very careful. the goal is not to phaseout but to modernize not just the jeepneys but the whole system itself. most people are just not aware that the government is already doing a lot to address the needs of both the commuter and the driver/operator.
@abcsofaccounting6502
@abcsofaccounting6502 Жыл бұрын
Well, theoretically, jeepney modernization is a good first step in solving the transportation crisis in the country. However, given the current status quo, that (1) a vast majority of commuters rely on PUJ as a mode of transport, and (2) a vast majority of jeepney drivers and operators lie on a median income that cannot afford hefty investments to new equipment, forcing them to surrender their franchises as part of the first step to jeepney modernization (where part of which is actually the jeepney phaseout stage), it would result in a prolonged shortage in terms of transpo choices (granted, NCR already faces public transpo crisis which, BTW is the root of the issue--too much demand, too little supply, and I believe the government should focus on this issue first before tackling jeepney modernization), not to mention the following issues that may happen: Modern jeepneys are expensive. A modern jeepney costs about 600,000-700,000 PHP, while the government’s preferred units cost around 1.6-1.8 million PHP. The average jeepney driver earns around 500-600 PHP a day-but with rising costs of gasoline and other factors, it is safe to assume that they earn less. Drivers and transport laborers point out how out of budget these units are, even with government assistance. Many drivers express that they have no objections to PUV modernizations, especially with all its pros. However, cost is a big con that they cannot overlook. Another impact that the jeepney phaseout can have is the severe lack of jeepneys in the country. As less and less jeepneys ride, commuters may find it difficult to catch a ride. The government should have an option that provides a more affordable way for drivers to acquire one of the vehicles. Otherwise, it is not an exaggeration to say that many drivers will have issues getting one. This will inevitably lead to a severe lack of PUVs and can even lead to bigger difficulties in traffic. In terms of environmental impact, a study done by the VTT Technical Research Centre of Finland shows almost a direct correlation of the effects of PAHs or LCOs on emissions. By reducing PAH content in diesel by 80 percent from 5-percent weight content to only 1 percent, PAH-related emissions also dropped massively by a range to as much as 80 percent. Sweden A-1 diesel is now down to a PAH-content of 0.02 percent with Finland at 0.2 percent owing to a tax incentive to refiners, but average PAH content in diesel in Europe is still about 4.5 percent, with a few still high at 10 percent. Bringing it down to 6 percent costs the industry in Europe about €312 million, and will increase costs for every drop in PAH content to as high as €2.249 billion at 1-percent content. In short, what we do not see is how diesel is produced behind the scenes, somehow coming out now from behind from the tailpipe emissions. But science now tells us that when a vehicle farts from behind, these can still be measured, even if many toxic fumes, like carbon monoxide, are odorless and invisible. While, theoretically, jeepney modernization may be seen as a plausible solution, it just stands as a band-aid solution to a bigger problem, that is, tackling the public transportation issue in NCR. Mobility is the main issue, not fitness or modernization. As a rule of thumb in public administration, public satisfaction is to be seen as the core principle. Would we rather solve better mobility first than modernization at the expense of mobility?

@@abcsofaccounting6502 I am out of the loop on details of the jeepney phaseout, so I appreciate the articulate response you gave here. What confuses me is how come jeepney drivers have to shell out some crazy money to buy a new unit they won't actually own, is there reasoning to this? Does the government give incentives to make it a better deal? Sounds like they're just gonna be giving away their very hard earned money.

In your trabaho series, there is some sense of anticipation when you finally get a sense of the basics of the job and you just do it. Also, on the topic of jeepneys, you really have to experience some perks of riding one rather than just "riding" it. Bad and good one's. And one that is in the gray area of it when you just SABIT on the back of the jeepney, it's a little thrilling, enjoyable and can be dangerous but the experience is always worth it because you won't experience it anywhere, anytime rather than being on the jeepney. As always, a very enjoyable video and good job on your hard work and effort as always.. Yours, your Manliligaw. 😊

The most misconception about introvert is that they are shy and don't talk much, however, they talk when needed but if not needed that's when they can choose to rest (not talk) or talk less. Which means, after her job with this vlog that's when she could only be her real ZONE.

Thank you for featuring these kind of "petty" jobs that most people often take for granted or under appreciate. Your vlog is such an eye opener but entertains a lot too. Kudos to your team's effort for the very good and inspiring trabaho concepts, and to you as well for taking on the challenge.

Hey Jessica, Ive been following you for a while now from Sydney, Aust. I love your down to Earth approach, thanks for all the vids - you're so kind! One day and if possible, I'd like to see you taking on the challenge of being a Tour Guide/ Director in your hometown in Phils where you grew up.

Salute to you for doing this content. For those who are saying that being a jeepney barker is a 'lazy' job. Well, think again. Have some empathy and there are no such things as easy job. That's all.
