Hey guys! For today's video, I recreated one of my favourite Filipino street food TAHO in Korea! I was able to get the right flavour and the visual so I was proud. Plus, the priceless reaction from Sylvia makes this video even more fun! HAHA. Korean strawberries are my FAVORITE fruits and I am so excited for you guys to try it too. 🍓❤️ Till the day I visit Baguio to try the authentic strawberry taho! 🙌

The word taho is derived from the Chinese word for the soft soybean pudding douhua. Taho originated in China in the time of the Han Dynasty (206 to 220 A.D.). According to legend, it was accidentally discovered by a cook whose original intent was to make soy milk. But he added impure salt to the concoction. The salt’s high-calcium content curdled the soup, producing a soft, silky substance we now know as taho. Mixed with almond syrup and beans, the douhua became popular in China. Taho eventually found its way to the Philippines by way of cultural and economic ties with the Chinese for thousands of years. Instead of using almonds for the syrup, locals used sugar, which resulted in a stronger and sweeter syrup. But it is not only in the Philippines where douhua found its home. The treat also made its way to Indonesia, Malaysia, Singapore, Taiwan, and Hong Kong, among other countries, where its name took different forms with varying similarities. In Indonesia, it is called tahwa. In Malaysia, it is taufufa. Singapore and Taiwan call it douhua, while Hong Kong knows it as Dofuhua-Lamma.

The exportation of korean strawberries had made a huge impact towards the local farmers as they asked for a petition to discontinue the exportation of korean strawberries, since the supply of the strawberries are sufficient enough, this may create an overall discord in chain of supply and demand, I do understand what Jessica implies although I do not wish my fellow countrymen to suffer the same way with exported goods such as rice etc. so please do support our locals and I hope the government takes action towards the matter. ( The frequent exportation of different goods within the PH had created a huge problem from rice up to meats, fish and vegetables, the government had opted to answer the problem of demand in a distasteful way which lead to the detriment of local produce, as the prices go higher for daily consumption, this does not provide a long lasting effort for a solution but rather a temporary answer that created an endless suffering for the proletariat and middleclass filipinos) Sana maintindihan nyo di ko binabash ang content nya gusto ko lang ipakita sa mga kababayan ko ang isang nakatagong problema sa lipunan na hindi nasosolusyonan, thank you.

Hi Ate Jessica and everyone! Though I do understand where this content is coming from, I hope my fellow Filipino viewers won't get discouragrd from supporting our local farmers. I remember seeing just weeks ago about the issue concerning smuggled strawberries that were entering the ph market. With that, our local farmers pleads to stop the importation of this as it wasn't included on the list that are to be allowed for importation to the Philippines. This issue is affecting the farmers' source of income. Hence, I hope that we may all find our own means to continue supporting products from the locals so that they may profit well and be able to provide for their families since this pandemic has been so hard to all of us- most especially to those who belong to the working class and marginalized sectors. Stay safe everyone!

The taho looks sooo gooooddd!! i havent had one for a long timee. and im def curious about these about these Korean strawberries cuz they look amazing. while the ones i've tried here in ph are just..well - not that good... but tbh, the Philippines could definitely produce strawberries of the same quality as these Korean strawberries. we have places here with climates perfect for producing strawberries, if only the gov't supported our farmers more, by introducing new technology, allowing them to produce a variety of the product and in more quantities, and if they have programs that enabled the farmers to sell and promote their products all over the country..

I don’t think there’s anything wrong with trying Korean strawberries. I buy local strawberries whenever I’m in Baguio and I love supporting local. But it’s always nice trying different food too, especially ones that are famous in their country. Strawberries are not local to the Philippines anyway.

Miss Jessica, please look more into this as the importation of korean strawberries here in the ph is becoming an issue for local strawberry farmers (as there seems to be a huge influx of imports that can harm local farmers, especially the govt doesn't really take care of them). I know this is kind of a sponsored (?) video, but with this issue idk what to think. So I recommend you to read more about this, given that you have influence as an influencer and a large Filipino following.

Taho is awesome. I like how you seemlessly switch languages and sound like a native when speaking English, Tagalog, or Korean.

Now I'm craving for taho. There aren't a lot of vendors nowadays, especially since there's a pandemic. But I got to try one in Boracay but they don't have spoons so it was a struggle, but very much worth it! HAHAHA
