Yes, of course we are going to mess up, but we only have to repent and ask for forgiveness, 1 John 1:9 It's the enemy that condemns us and points a finger at us, but the Holy Spirit convicts us, not beats us up. I know I belong to Jesus, and when I sin, such as wrong words, thoughts or actions, I immediately repent and I also find I have to forgive, not just others, but myself. Forgiveness is not a feeling, but a choice, regardless of how I feel. Don't listen to anyone but the Holy Spirit.

I can relate so much to this…I think my hardest struggle is with the tempting thoughts and memories of things I’ve seen and done…things I’ve already repented of but by remembering it all, the embarrassment, shame, and guilt of past thoughts and actions stings like new. To anyone who reads this, remember that the enemy wants us to feel we can’t be forgiven. But the enemy is wrong and a liar and hates us so much he will use any possible means to get us away from turning to God. If you feel genuine sorrow for sin you’ve committed, you are right with God. Turn to Him and confess whatever you’ve done then move forward, knowing God has forgiven you. All of us who have turned to Christ as our savior are his children, the enemy has no rights to us or our lives and He will flee wherever you turn to Christ. Stay strong and know that whatever you struggle with is not a solo burden. Many others have been tempted as well, and we have to literally take every single day at a time fighting against temptation and turning to Christ for our guidance and strength. The more you trust in Him, the easier it gets to see what easily trips you up (sinfully) and the more such things lose their (full) power over you.

You need to live according to the Spirit. You crucify the flesh by humbling yourself, regular prayer, fasting, reading the word, going to church, taking communion where the Lord is present, confession etc. Your ego must cease and God must reign, that way you can escape the sin as long as you continue to abide in Christ. Not by your own power, which would be the flesh, but God working in you through the room you make for the Holy Spirit to guide you. 1 John 3:6-9 "Whoever abides in Him does not sin. Whoever sins has neither seen Him nor known Him. Little children, let no one deceive you. He who practices righteousness is righteous, just as He is righteous. He who sins is of the devil, for the devil has sinned from the beginning. For this purpose the Son of God was manifested, that He might destroy the works of the devil. Whoever has been born of God does not sin, for His seed remains in him; and he cannot sin, because he has been born of God." The new birthed "I" in Christ does not sin nor can sin. It's the flesh that continues to sin. Decreasing the flesh is not the resolution, but increasing in obedience, making yourself lower by humbling yourself, does the trick for the Spirit to guide you. Unlike demons who dominate, the Spirit only works in us, if we grant him access to every door of the apartment that is our being. Surrender and let God live through you.

I'm trying to figure that out myself. One thing you can do is fast and ask Jesus what needs to be done. Fasting for me is so difficult but I know it gets God's attention.
