If you had a final message to give before dying, what would it be? Last words matter. In this video, Sean preaches on the last words in the Bible (Revelation 22:6-21), which focus on Jesus coming soon. Sean walks through the passage, verse by verse, and then leaves a challenge for living in the present while anticipating the return of Jesus.

Jesus did come back to judge the wicked in the first century. “Truly, I say to you, this generation will not pass away until all these things take place.” ‭‭Matthew‬ ‭24‬:‭34‬ It really breaks my heart when preachers compromise the meaning of words in scripture to make it fit their view. When Jesus said I am coming soon, he meant it. And it’s said over and over again in Revelation to give the churches the strength to hang on “a little longer” (Rev. 6:11) so they could endure til the end, the end of the age, and the end of all the judgments Jesus brought on the Jewish leadership and the first century political powers.

First coming: Jesus came as flesh, was born to save the world by dying for our all of our sins. Matthew chapter 2 and Luke ch 1 and 2. Rapture: Jesus comes down from heaven and calls His believers up to the clouds. ‭‭1 Thessalonians‬ ‭4‬:‭13‬-18 NIV‬‬ His second coming: Revelation 19:11-21 when His army of the saved are behind him.

If we are honest with ourselves, there is a desire to live in bliss forever, no more sorrow, no more tears. My final words before I died would be that when Jesus was on the cross he was next to 2 Thief 1 mocked him but the other asked for forgiveness and that Thief will be in heaven. I would also say that no matter what you have done Jesus will forgive you and you don't have to work for it because if you had to work for it both Thieves wouldn't be with God. I have a true story I have a cousin that is an unbeliever that has a very hard heart toward Christianity and she has been searching for the truth but she died in the hospital but before she died she smiled and her mom/My Aunt started to think maybe God is real. Because someone who has a hard heart become a believer and is peaceful during her death is a miracle. My family and I Think that the cousin went to heaven because she smiled and unbelievers usually don't smile. So please pray for the aunt so that she finds the truth before she dies because she has cancer and if she dies she won't be with God and that will be sad

I am praying right now. The Bible tells us our prayers are so valuable to God that he keeps them in a bowl in heaven (Rev. 5:8). Prayers are powerful and never expire. There are many things happening in our lives that are a result of other's prayers, both living and dead.

Hi Sean, this was a great sermon. Thanks for the upload! I might look up your church website in hopes of finding more. I have one quibble, which may come across as semantics but is a source of gospel confusion in my own past and also in some that I love. Would you mind explaining what you mean when you say the gospel involves "repenting of your sin"? I think what you (and many others) mean by that phrase is quite different from what average people hear. Repenting, ie turning from sin means you stop doing it, and I don't think you mean to suggest that one must cease sinning to be saved. Rather, when the word "repent" is used in a gospel context it's most often used in the sense of repenting of your unbelief in the one who will forgive your sins. Implicit in that is an acknowledgment that your sin is evil and you're in need of forgiveness for it, but no one ever obtained forgiveness by sin abstinence. I think you would agree with those things. Mainly I am concerned with clarity. Repent of your sins is a phrase widely adopted by many denominations, but try to find it in the Bible. You'll not find "repent of your sins" or "repent from sin" used in a single verse, outside of a few recent translations that have interpolated it. The repentance required for salvation is a repentance from unbelief, toward a belief in the saving power of Jesus. A soft heated person who is told "repent of your sins to be saved" often hears that as very bad news, as they know they lack the power to stop. Good news is to hear that Jesus offers forgiveness for the very fact of their helpless state of sinfulness. He will forgive immediately. Rescue from entanglements of specific sinful behaviors comes later through the long process of sanctification. Again, thanks for the message, especially the uncommon insights about Jesus's deity in revelation.

@Nighthawkinlight, I just copied and pasted your comment. The splicing between belief in what Jesus did for us and turning away from our sins (stop doing them) is stunningly clear. I have a bible question for anyone who can give an answer, biblically. I’ve been a belier since 1983, first church Calvary Chapel. I’m question is because I did an independent study on Hell. I discovered quickly that the word Hell is not found in the Bible. The 4 words used to translate Hell have different meaning from each other and none have the meaning of eternal conscience punishment by fire. So I began to question the doctrine of Hell and I can not support this particular doctrine any longer. Can anyone reading this show me where I am wrong. ????

As a non-believer I appreciate Sean taking on this subjects....BUT in my opinion, this phrase is like so many other justifications believers come up with.. There is always a defense, even all the murder in the old testament, the violence from Jesus in book of Relevation, even obvious stuff like people living 900 + years, God coming down and talking to all the people in Old Testament, but we never hear from him these days. There are just too many of these irrational issues, not to mention the Gospels are full of contradictions... Finally Sean did not mention one of these phrases was when Jesus said he would come in this generation....that would nail it down to 40 years or so...That is pretty specific that is hard to weasel out of. But, this is why there are so many religions...because nobody can understand and agree on this Book. Why didn't jesus or God or the Spirit just write the book for us...God wrote the commandments did he not.

Good explanation for why the word soon doesn’t mean soon. But I think we should also entertain that Jesus meant what he said. There are 34 references of imminency in the New Testament regarding his “coming.” The angel told Daniel to seal this up as it for the time of the end. The angel told John do not seal this up as the time is at the door. The Lord has “come” in judgement at other times in the Old testament. In the New Testament we need to separate His “coming” in judgement of the Jewish relgious /political system in 70AD from His actual second coming and judgement of all mankind. Dr Kenneth Gentry has done extensive research into the early dating of revelation, as well as how it would have been understood by the original hearers. The more I look into this I find his position has much stronger support than what has become popular, and generally accepted.

A very interesting comment there about Jesus being the "Morning Star" though of course more could be said. The Morning Star is actually the planet Venus which is also the Evening Star. Does anyone know what Latin-speaking Romans called Venus? It was the planet "Lucifer" aka the bringer or bearer of light. Now, doesn't that offer an interesting spin on this passage?
@kasparbondeeriksen703
@kasparbondeeriksen703 Жыл бұрын
the concept of the “morning star” is not the only concept that is applied to both Jesus and Satan. In Revelation 5:5, Jesus is referred to as the Lion of the tribe of Judah. In 1 Peter 5:8, Satan is compared to a lion, seeking someone to devour. The point is this, both Jesus and Satan, to a certain extent, have similarities to lions. Jesus is similar to a lion in that He is the King, He is royal and majestic. Satan is similar to a lion in that he seeks to devour other creatures. That is where the similarities between Jesus, Satan, and lions end, however. Jesus and Satan are like lions in very different ways. The idea of a “bright morning star” is a star that outshines all the others, and Jesus is the One who is called “bright.” Satan was a morning star. Jesus, as God incarnate, the Lord of the universe, is the BRIGHT and morning star. Jesus is the most holy and powerful “light” in all the universe. So, while both Jesus and Satan can be described as “morning stars,” in no sense is this equating Jesus and Satan. Satan is a created being. His light only exists to the extent that God created it. Jesus is the light of the world (John 9:5). Only Jesus’ light is “bright” and self-existent. Satan may be a morning star, but he is only a poor imitation of the one true bright morning star, Jesus Christ, the light of the world. Jesus was ‘begotten’, not created like satan & lucifer.

However. Christians may be able to explain or dismiss things like Christ being 2000 years tardy for his return, they must admit if they’re honest, atheists (or non-believers in the Christ narrative) have great and ample reason to dismiss the Judeo-Christian narrative as nonsense. But instead they claim atheists KNOW that god exists and they suppress the truth. This is such insulting silliness.

Sean, is 2000 years “soon”. Jesus’s followers were expecting him to return in their lifetime. “ Truly I tell you that this generation will not pass away before these things take place “.yet Christians are still waiting for the end to come. Jesus did, in fact return in their lifetime and "those things" that Jesus predicted all came true, but not in the way premillennialists or dispensationalists believe. Jesus came in judgment upon Israel (just as God had "come upon the clouds" {of judgment} many times in the OT) and Jerusalem was ultimately and finally destroyed as predicted. The confusion occurs when folks confuse the "last days" and take it to mean the end of the world rather than what is correctly translated "the end of the age". That age was the Jewish age. John the Baptist warned of the coming judgment upon Israel and the coming of the Messiah (who Israel would soon demand to be murdered upon a cross). As a result, the judgment of God came upon the Jews just as Jesus said it would "in their lifetime". "Some of you standing here will not see death until you see the Son of Man coming in his Kingdom." Jesus was either telling the truth and this happened while those he spoke to were still alive or, he was a liar or he was wrong. But Jesus did return approximately 40 years later in AD 70 (when some of them were still alive to witness it), bringing judgment as the risen and eternal King who now reigns with the Father. The final resurrection has not yet occurred, but all that Jesus predicted has been fulfilled just as John wrote in Revelation..."will soon take place"...AD 70.

@@horridhenry9920There are exegetical rules to follow and proper hermeneutics to use when interpreting scripture just as there are rules to interpret science. The Bible can be understood properly but you are correct that differences of interpretation have caused divisions and other problems. Most people simply do not want to take the time to do the work it requires to understand, more clearly some passages that are more difficult than others. Let's see, will it be "god wants everyone to have a chance"? IF this is the case, then when do births stop, if ever? and if not everyone wants this nonsense, will us puny humans keep it away? I enjoy this bit from the got questions people as an excuse "Jesus’ statements that He was coming “soon” should be properly understood. The Greek word tachu, which is translated “soon” or “quickly” in Revelation 22:20, can also mean “without unnecessary delay” or “suddenly.” It does not have to mean “immediately.” Jesus’ meaning seems to be that, once end-times events have been set in motion, things will move quickly, without any unnecessary delay. The plagues of Revelation will follow one right after another, and at the end Jesus will come “suddenly.”" in context, it seems to mean nothing but "soon".

Only our traditions create the tension and stop us seeing it. It's all over the new testament. Near, at hand, shortly, soon. This generation. Those standing here will see his return. Those that pierced him. On and on. The readers of those letters, men living in time, God's time for men - would have certainly known the Olivet discourse and believed Jesus was about to return in their lifetime. 70ad fits like a glove. “I Am. And YOU will see the Son of Man seated in the place of power at God’s right hand and coming on the clouds of heaven." Judgement of Jerusalem and Caiaphas knew what Jesus was saying and did not like it. Coming on the clouds is how Yaweh came in judgement of nations throughout the old testament and He was coming for them. Blasphemy.

This is like a puzzle piece. It has four sides that has to fit. Just because one side fits pretty nicely doesn't mean you can pound the other three sides in. Looking back at how God operates. First coming was shrouded in mystery. Prophets and even angels long to see the revelation. Second coming even Jesus Himself don't know the date and time. Second coming has a mystery element we are not going to know. The puzzle is not going to fit until is revealed. First coming has a stumbling block for the Jews. Second coming has great deception for all. First coming, Jews had preconceived notion what they like to see, and they stumbled. Second coming, be careful of preconceived notion of what you like to see. I would not be surprise if Christians have great suffering ahead.

@@benmlee Christians seem to often suffer, 66 million in Russia after the Russian Revolution for example. Marxist socialism has murdered many millions. Dating the past and dating the future are nothing alike. Jesus didn't know the exact date of his second coming, but he did clearly say some of those standing right there in front of him as he spoke would be alive. No tension if Jesus returned in 66-70ad. Not for that issue at least. I have only just started looking into this and it is very interesting, to say the least. We know a lot about that war and the political situation as it developed. Disbelief in the return of Jesus has nothing to do with paganism, and has everything to do with the expectation that the NT itself furnishes, an expectation that should have been fulfilled in the first century. Mark 13:30-31; James 5:7-9; 1John 2:18.

The "generation" is those people who will witness the events of Mark 13:6-27. From the beginning of the actual, end-times-impending birth pains to Jesus' return will be less than a generation. Despite the intriguing controversy, "generation" is not the point of this verse. The point is that once the events of the end times begin, they will progress very quickly. Seven years is a short time for a world leader to come to power, take over much of the world (Daniel 7:19-27), broker peace with Israel, break peace with Israel (Daniel 9:27), witness God's incredible wrath on the world (Daniel 9:24), and be sentenced to eternity in hell (Revelation 19:20).

@@kasparbondeeriksen703 The point of the verse is "This generation shall not pass away until all these things have occurred." Everything did occur up to and including the Roman destruction of Jerusalem within that first century generation, but Jesus was mistaken about the end. The angels failed to arrive. They failed to gather the elect. The angels continue to fail, and Jesus continues to be wrong. Furthermore Jesus says nothing about a 7- year- time- frame. Jesus couldn't have cared less about Daniel's final week, and he never mentions it at all. This "7 year" eschatology is just silly. It was wrong in the 19th. Century, and it's still wrong today.

@@dirkwestoven2091 in Godot- Exactly. I just found it interesting that Sean pronounced it “God-it.” My point about Xtians being removed from the struggle (sorry I can’t scroll up and see what I wrote right now) was simply that Xtianity, in its very essence, is the answer to the question the rest of humanity struggles with. In other words, Xtianity removes its adherents from the common human struggle of existence. That is, Xtians don’t wonder about our origins, purpose, and endpoint, they KNOW (since the Bible presents its proposed truth as certainty). So if I made myself clear, I don’t think I inaccurately described Xtianity about this. The question is whether that Xtian truth is in fact true. I emphatically believe it’s not true (and to be clear, I was a Xtian for 2.5 decades, but that’s another issue). But unlike those in the Xtian camp, I don’t dare to tell others I know all the answers. Online discourse is difficult. None of this is meant to be a slight.

I do love the claim of a "different time scale" as an excuse. So, hmmm, if JC claimed he would be back within a generation, we can take that anywhere from 20-40 years in common usage. Then how about we go with a thousand years is a day for this god, that's what the bible says. So, we can take 20 years times the number of days and get 7,300 days, and then take that by a 1000, and get your god will be back in 7,300,000 years. That's quite a problem. Unsurprisingly, christians, including sean just make up nonsense to excuse their god's no-show, and the early christians did the same. Happily, your god is imaginary and is never coming back. Sean tries to hedge his bets with saying it could be up to a thousand years until this character returns, but funny how a guy a 1000 years ago very likely said the very same thing.

THE COSMIC RULERS MOLD ADAM At that time the chief creator then expressed his opinion about humankind to those who were with him. Then each of them cast his seed into the midst of the navel of the earth. Since that day, the seven rulers have formed humankind with his body like their body, but his likeness is like the human who appeared to them. His fashioned body came into being one part at a time, and their chief created the brain and nervous system. Afterward the person appeared like the one before him. He became a person with soul, and he was called Adam, that is, father, after the name of the one who was before him. Now, after Adam was made, he left him as a lifeless vessel, since he had taken form like an aborted fetus, with no spirit in him. Regarding this, when the chief ruler remembered the word of Pistis, he was afraid that the true human might come into his fashioned body and rule over it. Because of this, he left this fashioned body forty days without soul. And he withdrew and left him. But on the fortieth day Sophia Zoe sent her breath into Adam, who was without soul. He began to move upon the earth, but he could not stand up. Now, when the seven rulers came and saw him, they were very much disturbed. They walked up to him and seized him, and the chief ruler said to the breath within him, “Who are you? And from where have you come here?” It answered and said, “I came through the power of the human for the destruction of your work.” When they heard, they glorified him because he gave them rest from their fear and concern. Then they called that day the day of rest, because they rested themselves from their troubles. And when they saw that Adam could not stand up, they rejoiced. They took him and left him in paradise and withdrew up to their heavens.

THE COSMIC RULERS RAPE THE EARTHLY EVE Then the authorities were informed that their fashioned body was alive, and had risen, and they were very much disturbed. They sent seven archangels to see what had happened. They came to Adam, and when they saw Eve speaking with him, they said to one another, “What is this enlightened woman? For truly she resembles the likeness that appeared to us in the light. Now come, let us seize her and cast our seed into her, so that when she is polluted she will not be able to ascend to her light, but those whom she bears will serve us. But let us not tell Adam, because he is not from us. Rather, let us bring a stupor upon him, and suggest to him in his sleep that she came into being from his rib, so that the woman may serve and he may rule over her.” Then Eve, since she existed as a power, laughed at their false intention. She darkened their eyes and secretly left her likeness there with Adam. She entered the tree of knowledge and remained there. They pursued her, and she revealed to them that she had entered the tree and had become the tree. And when the blind ones fell into a great fear, they ran away. Afterward, when they sobered up from the stupor, they came to Adam. And when they saw the likeness of that woman with him, they were troubled, thinking that this was the true Eve. And they acted recklessly, and came to her and seized her and cast their seed upon her. They did it deceitfully, defiling her not only naturally but also abominably, first defiling the seal of her voice, which had spoken with them, saying, “What is it that exists before you?” They meant to defile those who might say at the consummation of the age that they had been born of a true human by means of the word. And they were deceived, not knowing that they had defiled their own body. It was the likeness that the authorities and their angels defiled in every way.

EVE BEARS THE CHILDREN OF THE COSMIC POWERS First Eve conceived Abel from the first ruler; and she bore the rest of the sons from the seven authorities and their angels. Now, all this came to pass according to the forethought of the chief creator, so that the first mother might bear within herself every seed, mixed and joined together with the fate of the world and its configurations and justice. A plan came into being because of Eve, so that the fashioned bodies of the authorities might become fences for the light. Then the light will condemn them through their fashioned bodies. The first Adam of light is spiritual and appeared on the first day. The second Adam is a person with soul and appeared on the sixth day, called Aphrodite. The third Adam is earthly, that is, a man of law, who appeared on the eighth day, after the rest of poverty, which is called Sunday. Now, the progeny of the earthly Adam multiplied and was completed and produced within itself all the technical skill of the Adam with soul. But all were in ignorance.

Jesus was clearly an apocalyptic preacher who believed the end was coming soon (as was Paul) . Presented with this problem Sean redefines “soon” to mean a very long time. Pretty disgraceful. I am always puzzled as to why Christians can’t see this is what they are are desperately trying to come up with an explanation for things in the Bible which make no sense. Incidentally, although this talk was about Revelation, I wonder how Sean would explain away Mathew 16:28, when Jesus says to his followers . . . “Truly I say to you, there are some standing here who will not taste death until they see the Son of Man coming in his kingdom.” As far as I am aware the Son of Man hasn't come yet; does that mean these people are still alive? No doubt a Christian in this thread will be able to explain why Jesus didn't mean what he appears to mean.
