Nothing put on and fake from Ian. Just an absolute original. So glad I grew up when I did

I saw Tull at Madison Square Garden Twice. Songs From the Wood tour in 1977. The opening band was Jonathan Livingston Seagul. A fictional band A guy Came out sang 3 notes then Ian came out alone and opened with Wondering Aloud. Barimore Barlow and Martin Barre Clive Bunker and Ian and they played for 3 hrs.

I might have seen that tour’ I had a friend who was the big fan and got us into Tull!

One of the best composers of the XXth Century, with beatiful songs and fabulous lyrics. A 'living legend' as a flute player... with his unbelievable technique of singing the flute lines while blowing/ playing his flute!! Very, very difficul to be done. One of the most incredible 'presence' on stage: by odd movements, dances and facial expressions... This presentation shows less than 10% of how great he was. Nevertheless it's a honour to have an opportunity to watch this video.

Ian Anderson is a genius both at both composition and performance. Never will a studio album prepare you for what they will do in a concert; the entire band are talented artists and performers, and don't expect them to do the same thing on different stops in the same tour either. Their talent at changing pace, key, and tempo is awesome; hard progressive rock to a gentle ballad in an eye-blink with no one missing a cue. My fandom goes all the way back to 1970, and I've been fortunate to see Jethro Tull in live performances around 8-10 times now. Ian's flute solos are always a joy, the flutter tonguing and singing trough the flute are without equal.

My city's inviting me and my wife to a free concert of our choice this summer. There's a prominent lineup, all manner of artists I've always wanted to see, but I guess we'll end up seeing Jethro Tull for the fourth time. ;D My first concert was in 2008, by the way, and I was 17 years old. Fell in love when I saw them play a gig on the telly once.

This is a really unique version of Aqualung. Ian's vocals come off really different here, his voice is more talking than singing, but very dramatic, moving, poetic. I like it!
@oskarileikos Жыл бұрын
It's one full step down in key from the original - original is in G minor, this is in F minor. The result is darker and heavier. I like it too, every once in a while. My favourite version of Aqualung is probably the Madison Square Garden '78 version, with Quatrain as an intro to this song.

The best lead Martin has pulled off of Aqualung EVER. Gave me goose bumps. And KUDOS to Noyce. This song has always had more bite, when played live. I would put Barre up against anyone, and Perry is incredible on drums.

@@gratefulfredly8643 I bought SFTW when it first came out -- the first album I ever purchased. I never thought of JT as a favorite until many years later -- at Tower Records with $10 in my pocket on many occasions, looking through my "favorites" and not finding anything. I ended up leaving with Too Old to Rock and Roll, or Benefit, or Thick as a Brick. I realized a few years later that I had more Tull albums than any other artist. At that moment it hit me... I spent more time listening to JT than anyone else.

This is sad for me in watching the downward trend of Ian's great voice !! I'm an Old Prog Baaaastard in my late 60s and saw Tull many times from 1972' onward about 14 times. And saw them with this great lineup in 2003' and Ian's singing voice was great !! This is 2005' and you can see and hear the struggle he started having with range and his breath !! Years of Smoking has taken it's awful toll on his voice and the last few years his singing is just not what it was even here !!

As a Bassist I hate the Plexiglass around the Drum set. I played with one band that used it, and if you do not have the proper Sidefiils and front monitors, it sucks. I know Tull had all of those plus the ear monitors, but not all of us can afford that stuff. lol. Aqualung was a good album, but I think Passion Play was the masterpiece. When I saw that concert, I was just mesmerized and in to the theatrics, and when it was over, I did not want it to stop. I was bummed all the way home. lol.

I love Tull, seen them loads of times, have everything including solo and the new Zealot Gene album too. But even the most dedicated fan must surely feel serious pain over Ian's vocals on this track live. Sometimes its better to stick to the studio rather than go out live. 17 years ago now imagine how bad the vocals will be now. The only thing carrying this is Martin Barre's guitar. :(

I saw Tull last Monday. It was amazing. Ian's degraded voice didn't lower the quality of my experience at all. It was the first time I'd ever seen them. And I hope Ian continues for as long as he can, so that other young people like me can get the chance to see him live. At least I know Ian won't listen to stupid opinions on youtube comment sections, telling him to stop...

@francocarraminana2 жыл бұрын
@pedrotaabani5392 жыл бұрын
