Our trip to a rural Chinese mountain village was an eye opener.
We went to Cuihua mountain near Xi'An city to do some hiking to a beautiful Heaven Lake.
And on the way, we passed by some charming villages.
Aside from the spectacular landscape, the people were so friendly.
Life was simple, but everyone was happy.
This was the total opposite of what we've seen on western media where Chinese villages are often depicted as poor, dirty, with miserable people.
But we were shocked and happy to find out that life in this countryside was clean and relaxing.
We didn't expect this in China!

i was a carer to patricia my late wife i did everything and thanks be to God good at everything that i put my mind and hands 2 been cooking and baking anyway i piled up our childrens plates our son loved food ,our daughter went crying to pat pat said as dad told you off she said know he made me eat to much ,our youngest was sick refusing to eat so i kept trying to force . one dinner they once had was rabbit and my son is 56 , 57 this year he was still complaining to our first daughter about i gave him the rabbits harse,like i said well he was lucky to get that many are starving in the world

A side note here Ken but your costume in Xi'an for New Year was a Eunuch not a General. Steve's was an Imperial Guard. Eunuchs where castrated men that looked after or protected the females of the Imperial court.

Honestly I remember being a kid in China thinking English was just Chinese with a weird accent. Tv programs, shows, and ads featuring “foreigners” would have some white guy speaking Chinese with a strong accent. Just my own experience but I’m thinking those kids may have thought they were more understandable to Steve by using an accent.

Chinese fish is different from foreign fish. Skilled Chinese chefs will cook the most delicious fish. I have eaten three kinds of very delicious fish in China, Guilin beer fish, Guizhou rice fish, and a kind of fish from Yunnan. (Can’t remember the name), I’m still very impressed.

3:39 The grandma was saying that she is in her 80s. In China Grannies and Poppas are obsessed with telling people their age, in exchange of young kids telling them that they look healthy and strong, which I find absolutely adorable.

12:25 Donkey meat is a real delicacy! In China there is a saying, "天上龙肉，地下驴肉“，which means ”Dragon meat in Heaven, Donkey meat on Earth." Although I've never come to fully appreciate the uniqueness of donkey meat(it just tastes like every other meat), many well off middle aged Chinese(including my parents and their friends) are very keen on frequenting restaurants that offer cuisines that incorporated donkey meat. You guys missed out on a really special opportunity right there~! Just for reference "Being a dietary meat characterized by low fat and cholesterol content, donkey meat can be considered an excellent alternative to red meat" shows why donkey meat is special from modern nutritional aspect.

It's actually donkey meat! Love to see you guys enjoy the rural life. Chinese nature is bar none. I just went to Jiuzhaigou last fall and regret I didn't go earlier, I can go again and again and not be tired of it! Also Xinjiang , mother nature is so breathtaking!

It is so nice to see you show the real China. Most people they may just have a deep impression of those big city like Beijing or Shanghai😂 But actually the peaceful and friendly countryside is also an important part of China. If you want to explore more diverse Chinese villages, I strongly recommend Yunnan province to you. As a native form northern China, Yunnan is just like a wonderland for me. The natural scenery there is very beautiful, you can see snow mountains and highland and lakes. At the same time, it is a place where people of different nations live together, their architecture is very beautiful too. I really hope that more people can discover there😊

If you want to see the most spectacular natural scenery, go to Guilin, Guangxi.Every province in China is different. There are so many interesting places.

Talk about hiking, try the tough trial on the mountain called Huang Shan. The trial at Huang Shan is built nicely. After you conquer Huang Shan. You may want to try a mountain named Hua Shan which has a rough trial path. Looking forward for your video on that.
