2025 VW Jetta and Jetta GLI get a facelift worthy of Hollywood
The changes are largely superficial, giving a fresh and modern feel
Volkswagen introduced the facelifted Jetta and Jetta GLI.
The models will arrive at dealerships soon with revised styling and improved interiors.
Pricing will start at $21,995, which is a slight increase over the previous model.
Affordable sedans are quickly becoming an endangered species, but that hasn't stopped Volkswagen from giving the 2025 Jetta and Jetta GLI a comprehensive facelift. The changes are quite dramatic, but mostly only superficial.
However, one has to give credit to the designers for making the six-year-old sedan feel fresh and new. As you can see, the rental car look has disappeared as the Jetta adopts a rounder, more luxurious design.
The front end is completely new and features a slim grille flanked by stylish LED headlights. Most models also include a new light bar.
Lower down, the model has a sportier and more expressive bumper. Buyers will also find new 17- and 18-inch wheels, as well as a revised color palette that now includes Monterey Blue Pearl and Monument Grey.
Although the rear is more evolutionary, the car is equipped with a new trunk with a slim light bar. The latter connects the taillights and features repositioned badging.
The changes to the interior are not as dramatic, as the cabin is still instantly recognisable. But designers have tried to spice things up a bit by adding a revised instrument panel and a new 8-inch infotainment system. The latter replaces the previous 6.5-inch display and has a new, standalone design.
Other updates include a new dual-zone Climatronic Touch system that replaces the old-style climate controls. These are the bulk of the updates, but there are some hardware-level tweaks as well.
The SE, in particular, is better equipped as it now has items once reserved for the SEL. These include a wireless smartphone charger, wireless App-Connect, voice control and SiriusXM satellite radio. Speaking of the SE, it now comes equipped with two-tone perforated leather seats.
Sport models feature new Molecular fabric, while the SEL offers perforated Vienna leather in a new Brown/Titan Black combination. Similarly, the GLI features new perforated Vienna leather seats in Grey/Red Shell/Titan Black with red contrast stitching. The performance-oriented version also gets a new heated steering wheel.
All Jettas come with the IQ.DRIVE suite of driver assistance systems. Includes Front Assist, Travel Assist and Adaptive Cruise Control with Stop-and-Go. These are accompanied by Lane Assist, Emergency Assist, Rear Traffic Alert and Active Blind Spot Monitor.
Under the hood is a turbocharged 1.5-liter four-cylinder engine that produces 158 hp (118 kW / 160 PS). Since the six-speed manual transmission is no longer offered on the standard Jetta, it connects to the new standard eight-speed automatic transmission.
The Jetta GLI sticks with its turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine with 228 hp (170 kW / 231 PS) and 258 lb-ft (349 Nm) of torque. While output remains unchanged, so do transmission options, where customers can get a six-speed manual or a seven-speed dual-clutch gearbox.
The manual and extra power aren't the only things that set the GLI apart, as it has stronger brakes and an electronically controlled limited-slip differential. The model also has adaptive shock absorbers and a sports exhaust system.
Pricing for the 2025 Jetta S starts at $21,995, an increase of $560. But Volkswagen noted that it's actually cheaper for most people, as the automatic version starts at $22,235.
There's no information on the prices of other trim pieces, but we can expect to learn the full details when the updated Jetta is scheduled to be launched by the end of the third quarter.
