I just picked it up for around 30$ at gamestop and with a few extra cards from some bulk, and adding in a jirachi, manaphy, a cape, and a tm makes this deck a lot better and for really cheap too.

Scream Tail can snipe out the Archeops and Baxcalibur, though it’s more backbreaking to Lugia to snipe Archeops. Lost Box is much better if you have Flutter Mane in the deck to stop Comfey. In my personal paper build, I have Flutter Mane in there instead of Mew ex, but I wanted to keep Mew in there for those who just bought the deck and want to use one if the coolest and best cards they just bought. Other builds squeeze in Klefki too. Deck space is really tight for Gardevoir and everyone is gonna have to make some tough calls on what to keep.

How does that card help this deck?

The problem with Ancient Booster Capsule is that it only works on Scream Tail. It can be difficult enough to find any HP modifiers at times, let alone a specific modifier that only works for one of your Pokemon. By all means feel free to try it out and see if it works for you, but I think the fact that Ancient Booster only works on Scream Tail is going to hurt consistency more than you’ll gain from 40 additional damage.

The next League Battle Deck won’t be out for another 7 months and we don’t even know for certain if it will be Charizard. If you don’t want to wait that long, Gardevoir is the best pre-constructed deck option out right now.

This is a great set to get started with. The trainers you get with it and some of the Pokemon (Mew, Greninja, Lumineon) can be useful tools in most decks.

You can move just 1 damage counter off of Drifloon onto another Pokemon with Damage Pump, as the wording is “up to 2” but not explicitly 2. By doing so, you can then push Drifloon’s damage to a maximum of 110 instead of 100, allowing Drifloon then to swing for 330 instead of 300.

Gardevoir is the best pre-constructed deck you can get right now and it’s been surprisingly strong in major events, including a top 4 finish at Orlando Regionals, which had over 2,500 players. Japan already is in the next format with Twilight Masquerade cards and it’s still proving successful. The thing to note is that Gardevoir can be a tricky deck to play. It can be tricky to set up and it’s inherently slow. It’s probably on par with Meowscarada for setup time, but certainly has a higher ceiling, as Gardevoir is a more versatile deck offensively with single prize attackers that can hit harder or snipe the bench. I admittedly didn’t like the deck for a months before it really clicked with me. It wasn’t until I really focused on learning it before I “got it”. If you’re up for the challenge, definitely go for it! And besides me, there are tons of KZfaq videos online covering Gardevoir because it’s popular (and good)!

@@InThirdPerson I don't mind a bit of learning curve - I hated Meowscarada first 😅 then I loved it and then I plateaued hard recently. I'm not sure whether it's just me or the match-ups (I came across a lot of unusual decks on tcgl lately that kind of put me on a bad streak). In any case, maybe simply getting a new deck isn't the answer, but I'm also feeling like I should start playing a wider variety and something with a bit of staying power had more appeal to me. These videos are super useful to get a feel for the decks 🙌 Now I just wish rods and earthen vessels weren't so hard to get in the uk atm 😢

I love Meowscarada too, but having played both since they each launched, Gardevoir has always had the higher competitive ceiling. Whether you love or hate the play style, I’m fairly certain you’ll win more games in the long run.

In most cases, attaching an energy to a psychic Pokemon with Gardevoir and then retreating will suffice. Gardevoir is more susceptible to stall traps like Snorlax and Mawile, but Professor Turo can help get those Pokemon out. Regardless, Gardevoir players don’t run switch because the vast majority of the time, attaching from hand or from Gardevoir is enough. Before going into comparisons, it’s worth noting that the Mew VMAX League Battle Deck is no longer Standard legal. You can’t use it at organized in-person events, nor can you use the deck for ranked mode on Pokemon TCG Live. If either of those are important to you, then Mew VMAX shouldn’t be up for consideration. Mew VMAX as an archetype will go down in history as one of (if not, the) greatest deck of all-time. It was considerably stronger than any of the deck when it launched, and even through multiple rotations and Pokemon printing numerous counter cards, Mew VMAX stayed near the top for its entire lifespan. It’s my personal all-time fave deck! It set up really quickly, drew a billion cards, and could be adapted to help it win almost any matchup. The Mew League Battle Deck was a solid foundation for that archetype. It was only 16 cards off from the top 8 Mew deck at the 2022 world championships and 22 cards off from the Mew deck that won the 2023 world championships. However, the deck was missing 2 Genesect V, 2 Mew V, and 1 Mew VMAX, which notably gimped the deck out if the box. With upgrades though, absolutely goated deck. Gardevoir was (and kind of still is) an incredibly strong archetype. In 2023, Gardevoir was a top-tier deck the whole time and was “thisclose” to beating Mew to win worlds. Had this League Battle Deck come up during Gardevoir’s peak, people would be overjoyed! Releasing Gardevoir now is…a bit weird. It isn’t as strong now when fully upgraded. However, a Gardevoir deck did just get top 4 at the largest regionals ever recently (2,500+ players in Orlando), so maybe the falloff isn’t as bad as we thought. I certainly think it’s weaker than before, but when fully upgraded, has the potential to win at the highest level. It’s just harder to do so now than before. To Gardevoir’s credit, the League Battle Deck plays great out of the box! I’d say it’s missing roughly the same amount of cards Mew was in order to fully upgrade it. However, the cards you do get make for a stronger foundation. The high price of Buddy Buddy Poffin will be annoying for upgrading Gardevoir in the immediate term, but I’m certain it will come down to a fair price sooner rather than later. Both strong decks for their times. One with a bit higher of a competitive ceiling (Mew). One a bit more complete out of the box (Gardevoir). In terms of playability, I’d say Mew has a low skill floor but a high skill ceiling. It’s easy to set up, draw a billion cards, and smack the active repeatedly. But there’s a lot of nuance with Genesect in terms of managing what resources to get rid of in order to draw more cards. Gardevoir is a harder deck to play. It relies on a stage 2 evolution, which can be difficult to set up. It also requires you to dump a bunch of energy in the discard pile in order to get rolling. But with practice, Gardevoir can beat just about anything.

I've never actually played, but I collected when I was young (classic edition). I honestly am overwhelmed with trying to figure out how to get cards that mean something to me, but can also be playable. Mew seemed like it might fit that. I played the video games up through Gen 3. And I've played Magic for many years, FWIW. So I'm not starting at zero, exactly, but it is a lot to take in. 🙂 Thanks for the cool videos showing off cool decks.
