Didn't expect Jett to mention Kamen Rider and Ultraman in this video. But that is a unique insight as to why those brands haven't hit big in the west. Even though bad first attempts at bringing over the shows was another issue. Though are slowly growing over time. Tsuburaya had legal problems with distribution. Which is why it took so long for Ultraman to hit the west as it is now. And Toei is just being annoying with distributing Kamen Rider because they're licensing one season at a time instead of their whole catalog and asking for a lot of money for each season.

@@nekonekopanicnekonekopanic7335 Sentai at the time was still basic. Sure we had the edition of Mecha in Batyle fever J and the early concept of a 6th Ranger in J.A.K.Q and Maskman. But those concepts weren’t solidified till Zyuranger. Dragon Ranger was the first notable extra hero who stuck for a while at had his own toys to sell. Daizyujin was more complex than past Mecha. It’s not till Go-Busters that Sentai has a major shift, and even then that show is built to succeed in America. (Even though they tossed out all of that) Zyuranger is a good place to start mostly because of MMPR but not entirely.

This is what makes Takara Tomy much better than Hasbro in this regard. Not only did B-Daman was originated in Japan, but bc japanese Toy Companies like Takara Tomy, Bandai, etc are all artists and craftsmen at heart. They just know how to make their toys aesthetically pleasing and sell to its audiences through its bombastic commercials, something that makes the toys themselves look like a work of art that people can and will eventually appreciate in the long run. They're also good at maintaining longevity by innovating their core concepts into something fresh with each of its franchise releases, something that Hasbro SHOULD really learn from especially in maintaining their QC, taking their franchises seriously and getting out of that "toys are just for kids" Mindset. If anything else, Hasbro should've let Takara Tomy's B-Daman commercial explain the products themselves on the TV. Like seriously, Hasbro's commercial was just idk, lame, cringe, missed the mark or something.

Thank you for bringing up Kamen Rider! I have to further reiterate your point - Japanese candy toys in general are another thing that is basically exclusive to that country due to tradition. They do extremely well over there to the point that even adult tokusatsu fans will be looking for them online or in Japan. That's why the toy commercials go so hard - imagine toylines doing so well that they can be sold for cheap despite being incredibly high quality. I think the closest thing we've ever had are McDonald's toys; which is such a shame...

IxRolloutIx/Rollout Reviews has done quite a few tests of the Cross Fight and Es B-Daman, and yeah the difference between Cores is more noticeable with the Takara Tomy Toys as opposed to the Hasbro ones(Apparently the Power Block aka the piece between the Trigger and the Core itself works better) for one example of a Cores capability Torque=Bearga's Core actually emulates a Newton's Cradle by maintaining Momentum so it does better with a row of Targets

Funny you bring up Bottleman in this toyline critique. I personally think it DRASTICALLY improves upon every single facet of the development of Bdaman thus far. And it pretty much does away with every problem the franchise ever had. Granted, it had a rocky start with the original releases being fairly limited and all the marketing being pretty much isolated to KZfaq. However the core concept of shooting bottlecaps instead of marbles gave way to such a needed shakeup in gameplay. On top of all the Bdaman games still being applicable to Bottleman (save for break bomber, RIP), the toyline had a heavy emphasis on TRICKSHOTS. With the advent of bottlecaps, each shot was stronger, the projectile flew farther, and the caps could ricochet into a target several inches away. There were sets released in Japan that purely consisted of ramps, hoops, and other bottle-parkour doodads that breathed life into the otherwise monotonous projectile shooting gameplay. And that’s just base Bottleman. The sequel series, Bottleman DX, gave rise to the return of customization. Each part, each core has some level of functionality and effect on performance. The plastic was also way, way, way stronger and more robust. We had wheels, scopes, and hold part pinchers built into each Bottleman. We had Bottlemen that would shoot caps horizontally AND vertically, by virtue of bottlecaps being non-spherical. We have Bottlemen that shoot 2, 3, and 4 caps ALL AT ONCE. There has never been a better time to be a Bdaman fan and I urge everyone, if they have the means and opportunity, grab a Bottleman DX. I f***ing love this toyline.

The Cross Fire series toys are also different not just marketing as Hasbro version are also different to save cost. Other than the dragon series B-Daman all just use the same core instead of their unique core. Bear is a power type cause the barrel was made with a rubber like plastic so when fire need more force to push, Scorpion one had a roller at the trigger for rapid fire. Reason why the dragon had their original design is cause when Cross Fire air in the West, the show in Japan already reveal all five Dragon Type and also showed that Dragold can use parts from all the other Dragon Series B-Daman parts

I really wanted to take some of the old Zero system bodies and kit bash them with SD Gundam kits. I thought it'd be pretty cool to have an SD Gundam Exia where the clear circular part on it's chest was actually a marble launcher. These things were cool as hell, but really had no good aim with them. They did make some pretty rad MegaMan Battle Network B-Daman though back in the day, though they weren't nearly as functional as the Zero system ones, only having the ability to hold one marble you load directly into the front of their busters, and the trigger being on the top of the buster too.

I’m probably late to this but in Japan each core had its own name, like thunder Dracyan’s Japan name was accel Dracyan. Each core had a specific piece that affected its performance slightly. The snake b-daman,s core had a piece on the back that would help guide the trigger more properly to help with precision since some slight change to how the trigger gets push can affect the marbles trajectory. Scorpio was fully design with his core to be comfortably used one handed. His arm has places for your pinky (bottom spike), ring (inside the loop made by the arm), and middle (place it on top of the arm in the part that looks like a button to me) fingers. Your index finger goes on top of scorpios head, under the stinger, and your thumb goes in the trigger loop. This gives you a one handed grip that allows you to shot and reload at the same time.

It's 3 different evil looking, animal themed B-Daman. each one can change into an animal form as well, and all 3 combine into a single robot. Great video!! I was OBSESSED with b-daman as a kid after finding out about battle online (i was too young to have seen it on tv), got crazy hyped up seeing the cross fight toys on youtube and i was so excited when i found out they were gonna get imported as crossfire, only to get super disapointed learning that they were simplifying the toys a ton (seriously they had what, 3 different types of magazines, a single barrel attachment, and nothing else when japan had tons of both plus other types of parts) and was so let down. They actually had some full arena sets in japan that were like the one from battle and had multiples games to set up, tho the main one was also break bomber. One clarification tho, the break bomber set in japan was actually different than the one in america. The bars holding the blocks were specifically made to be able to hit out two blocks at once on the sides if you were accurate enough, but the middle could only be hit by itself, thus letting you have much more strategy and skill to it, but they made a new mold of it for the american release i guess cause they wanted a cheaper option. Not sure if keeping the toy line unchanged wouldve saved the series in the US, but i think it certainly wouldve made it better, at least for those of us who were big into the toys/series (those commercials always annoyed the hell out of me tho, they couldnt even be bothered to make the cgi look accurate to the toys??)

After seeing Power Rangers success, always been into importing more Japanese shows like Kamen Rider, Ultraman, Beyblade, etc. Sadly, like you brought up, it is harder to introduce a shows story to another country, which is probably why Masked Rider and Ultraman Powered flopped. At least we still have the anime imports though
@chronoblue418

But Power Rangers success is a counter to this argument though. Even taking into account that it was altered somewhat, what we were introduced to in the west, Mighty Morphing Power Rangers, wasn't the beginning of that franchises history. If I remember correctly its like the 16th in the Super Sentai series so all that cultural history and growth seemed to be largely irrelevant in selling the series to young people in the west.

I disagree with it tho , it's all about marketing, advertisements and strategy to how u present the show in the west ... Anyone remember the kamen rider dragon knight?? The way they introduced the show to western audiences is very good and also very fresh. . And b daman never took in west because of lack of advertisement and proper Marketing .. Meanwhile in some countries in Europe b daman was quite popular . Hasbro actually released season 2 of crossfire b daman it's called fire blast b daman it's only released in Europe ..

@@chronoblue418 You are correct, Zyuranger was the 16th season. Sentai as a whole didn't even start out with mechs or the spandex suits and Zyuranger was the beginning of another large change to the franchise, the introduction of a proper sixth, which was only really tried before for an episode or two in previous seasons with prototype characters like MagneWarrior and X1Mask.

The one you shown is Kamen Rider Gaim which have dancing groups using locks shaped like fruits and seeds to summon monsters to fight like pokemon. In the first episode, the protagonist finds a driver and transform with the fruit locks to become armoured riders. The scene you just shown was him using the watermelon lock which summons a giant mechanical watermelon that can be used as a bowling ball or turned into a simplified mecha.

The best way to describe it is imagine if power rangers only came to the west starting with super Megaforce. There is a huge history of super sentai but it would be completely lost on most of the English audience and likely wouldn't make the series pop off as much as mighty morphin/jewel ranger did when it kicked off power rangers in the west.

I remember this thing, in the super market there was a stand were they sold dollar items and it had these small toy robots with a marble in the middle( obviously a knockoff), they stayed there until the stand was removed a decade later. I discovered a weird Canadian channel that aired anime on Saturdays and amongst them they aired B-daman, in that moment I discovered what that toy robot was but I still wonder why only the bootleg made it to stores instead of the real ones.

Watching this video when suddenly hearing about Thunder Draken reminds me of how Konig Cerberus from Bdaman Super has the same coe but it can change the place of the rubber strip so you can have forwad spin for power, backspin if you want the marble to return, and side spin to change the course of the marble. I have him on my table now too.

You said that Yo-kai Watch didn't do so well in the US because most Americans don't know about Japanese culture where yokai come from. I think that also factors into why Cross Fight B-Daman and Cross Fight B-daman eS, aka B-Daman Crossfire and B-Daman Fireblast, respectively, failed in the US. The figures that were marketed the most, the four dragons from the first anime, the four beast from the second anime, and their respective antagonists, were based on the guardians of the four directions and the center from Chinese and Japanese mythology. If the average American sees an azure dragon, they'll just think it's a dragon (which are admittedly cool on their own), and not the Huanglong/Seiryu.

I remember going crazy for these toys with my classmates and my parents buying me a B-daman. Best part is the fact they bought me the scorpion one, it was my favorite. I was so stoked they bought me such and it was expensive. The advertising were from Japan so I guess that what made the hype big from where we're from. There were only two of us in our elementary class who had such but it was the reason why we became playmates. I was sad it got lost and disassembled when a storm hit our town. Then the hype for B-daman just died from there.

This was a great video! B Daman deserves a lot more love in my opinion. While it probably should've been a battle game, or at least had the option to be one, it's really cool that they tried making it different with target practice. I will admit though, the inner collector in me was shaking. I noticed that you have the parts swapped on Strike Cobra and Thunder Bearga. Cobra should have the dark yellow parts, and Bearga should have the red parts. I still loved the video though!

Crash B-Daman was limited to East Asia and some parts of Southeast Asia (like the Philippines, who did like the line), but both Japan and America apparently share the same sentiment about the Crash line. See, back in those years, American gun laws are slowly becoming a thing, making sure there won't be anything remotely looking like a gun unless there are major modifications to the toys like firing harmless foam darts or paper bullets that break immediately when it hits its mark (basically why we never get any gun-based Transformer anymore). Crash B-Daman having gun-based parts are an instant no-no to be released wholesale in the West, and would naturally be skipped over whether the line succeeded in Japan or not.

so in crossfight the original japanese version the cores made more sense the hold parts had different levels of compression thus giving them a stronger shot a more precise one or so that they fire faster if you look at the back of the cores you'll see a tab on the bottom that goes up and down yea that's safety so that kids didn't shoot em at each other and the also allow for the cores to feel and shoot differently hasbro made that part useless by having them screwed together there for fucking up how the cores work. i promise you that if you ever get a chance to order any of the japanese ones made by takara you'll see the difference
