Was Adam, the first human in the Hebrew Bible, the first mystic? Why does tradition hold that one should not study Jewish mysticism - known as Kabbalah- until age 40? Where were the centers of Jewish mystical teaching before the city of Safed in the northern mountains of Israel rose to become the hub of Kabbalah in the 15th century? Learn the answers to these questions, as well as how Kabbalah took root in Jewish life and culture, in the first episode of the AIB series, "Exploring Kabbalah."

I can tell you approaching and turning 40 my understanding did change. I wondered why. I started to think about 3 strikes your out and 3rd times a charm, basically three times, and realized that when you turn 40 you've had 3 decades of self-awareness. You gain self-awareness when you are about 10 to 11 years old. Having 3 decades of self-awareness helps you see the world and life clearer. I started to think back on Moses and the Israelites being in the desert for 40 years and the flood of Noah lasting 40 days and 40 nights. I think this symbolizes the age of 40. Until then you are in the desert and/or in a storm with cloud cover from the sun/light/knowledge metaphorically.

@Boris Martinez Castillo I was basically saying what @Eulette Mundy said. At around the age of 40, you experience a shift or transition in the way you see the world. The rest were basic psychological principles that, in part, explain why you experience a transition at that age. The number 40 is symbolic for a reason. Just like 3, 7, 12, and (the missing number 4) are all symbolic of the number of ways we perceive the world. We perceive the external world in 3 dimensions, the internal (invisible world) in 4 dimensions; which is why the number 4 is always left out of or missing from ancient text. It's to symbolize the unseen. We can perceive at length, width, and height (3D) "each" from 4 dimensional thinking; which is 3×4 and equals 12. We can also add our 3D external perspective to our 4 dimensional internal thinking perspective; which equals a total perspective of 7 dimensions. Or maybe to you, this is just more word salad; which is fine too.

It's just obsolete knowledge-gating. It's a way of making sure only old men have knowledge and the power comes with it, and that those old men are brainwashed into the system before they're allowed access. Fortunately for us, there's almost no valuable wisdom to be found in any form of mysticism that's not readily available to anyone, of any age, without the need for obtuse ritual that serves no purpose other than indoctrination. Real wisdom is shared freely, because the wise want everyone to be educated - to become wise. False wisdom is kept by greedy, indoctrinated fools who want to horde power. People HAVE researched these things. A lot. And it's quite amazing how the supposed benefits of keeping knowledge from people until they're of the right age disappear instantly when put to scrutiny. And predictable how the indoctrinated turn on reality, in favor of scripture, when they can't actually prove their point.
@600pers
@600pers 2 жыл бұрын
@@paladinrose My post was expressing my surprise at the "coincidence" of not even learning about the Zohar until age 40. I'm a life-long atheist who only went to church about three times ever. I simply wasn't ready to receive the wisdom of mysticism until right around the age of 40, minus indoctrination. For me, my ego had to be crushed and my pride fail me before I was ready. There is wisdom in not casting pearls before swine. I still don't like theology-heavy religion but I do recognize how it was very useful in cohesive societies and cultures where people weren't generally educated or even had access to books. This particular time of spiritual awareness is unique indeed, but not all traditions are worthless. I don't think I'm in a good position to judge whether studying the Zohar as a practising Jew until age 40 is a good thing or not. I'm sure there are supposed reasons for it I'm ignorant of and I have never read any of the Talmud or Midrash. Once again, I'm just amazed at my personal "coincidence". I personally like Buddhism a lot. I think the focus on discipline and meditation without specific theology is a good path for furthering personal spiritual evolution while avoiding group think. Eventually, all those who lead will lead you astray.
@paladinrose
@paladinrose 2 жыл бұрын
@@600pers There's wisdom in understanding how and why the phrase "casting pearls before swine" is bullshit, but not in the phrase itself: 1. Swine are not beneath us. 2. Pearls are not useful, they just look pretty. 3. Any teacher that cannot teach their students isn't a master dealing with swine - they're a crappy teacher. 4. Any and all wisdom that you find in any religious texts around the world should be easily explainable WITHOUT the need for mysticism, or it's not good wisdom at all. It's indoctrinating garbage. Lastly, I was incredibly interested in Buddhism too: until I went to Thailand and Cambodia and watched Buddhist monks beating people off of a bus so they could have the good seats for themselves. All over the Buddhist world, the religious orthodox abuse their station over other people. If the teachings of Buddhism held ANY real water, then the everyday abuse and mistreatment of the commoners by the religious elite wouldn't be the norm throughout that part of the world. Right? I mean, if the teachings actually made you into a better person, then the organized face of that faith would be made up of, uhm.... better people, right? But it's not. Those MOST enmeshed in it are those MOST likely to abuse the peasants. If wisdom is wisdom, it stands on its own and doesn't need a faith, a people, or a holy book. Real wisdom is that touching a hot stove burns your hand: no religion has ever needed to codify such things because everyone comes to the same conclusion on their own. The wisdom stands on its own. The wisdom of Buddhism, Christianity, Janeism, Hinduism - it's largely false wisdom that needs extra, invisible things to exist in the world before it makes sense. Reject that nonsense. If someone can prove their point, they can prove their point. If they have to give you a God, animus, spirit, cycle of reincarnation, or any other imaginary thing - they're peddling lies. Hey, thanks for the reply after all this time, though! I enjoy these conversations very much.

This profound moment also means pulling back the veil that has hidden the alien interference in planetary and human evolution. Rather than feel victimized by these events, this is the time to take 100% responsibility for the direction of your own spirit, thoughts, emotions and behaviors. This is the time to build your spiritual house and develop some energetic muscle, mental discipline and Meditation skill and stabilize our core foundation. @Cody Bowman Why are you using so much demonic language? Read what you wrote. Is that at all about love? Do you honestly think using satanic language and attacking people helps them? As to Jesus Christ. Who was John the Baptist and why was he baptising people. Show me this practice in the Old Testament. You can not because it is not there. It was in almost all Cults though. Why did Jesus start teaching at age 30. Again nowhere in the Old Testament. So far I do not know where this came from but perhaps age 40 to learn the Kabbalah. Jesus was saying I learned it by age 30. Why did Jesus continually practice magic. Turning water into wine, walking on water, raising the dead and on and on? Show me where this was in the Old Testament. Except raising the dead it is not there. Why did Mark write Mark and yet it just ended with an empty tomb and the women told no one about it. Mark 16:1-8 KJV And when the sabbath was past, Mary Magdalene, and Mary the mother of James, and Salome, had bought sweet spices, that they might come and anoint him. 2 And very early in the morning the first day of the week, they came unto the sepulchre at the rising of the sun. 3 And they said among themselves, Who shall roll us away the stone from the door of the sepulchre? 4 And when they looked, they saw that the stone was rolled away: for it was very great. 5 And entering into the sepulchre, they saw a young man sitting on the right side, clothed in a long white garment; and they were affrighted. 6 And he saith unto them, Be not affrighted: Ye seek Jesus of Nazareth, which was crucified: he is risen; he is not here: behold the place where they laid him. 7 But go your way, tell his disciples and Peter that he goeth before you into Galilee: there shall ye see him, as he said unto you. 8 And they went out quickly, and fled from the sepulchre; for they trembled and were amazed: neither said they any thing to any man; for they were afraid. This was originally the end of the Book of Mark. The only Gospel then in existence. Later on the rest was added. Who did that, we do not know, but when people say the text was not messed with do not believe them. If they can add several verses they can change any part of it as well. Mark 16:9-11 KJV Now when Jesus was risen early the first day of the week, he appeared first to Mary Magdalene, out of whom he had cast seven devils. 10 And she went and told them that had been with him, as they mourned and wept. 11 And they, when they had heard that he was alive, and had been seen of her, believed not. However Luke does not agree with Mark. Why did they not address each other and figure it out when Jesus supposedly appeared to the 11 Apostles. Why are their accounts of the ressurection drastically different? John 20:11-18 KJV But Mary stood without at the sepulchre weeping: and as she wept, she stooped down, and looked into the sepulchre, 12 And seeth two angels in white sitting, the one at the head, and the other at the feet, where the body of Jesus had lain. 13 And they say unto her, Woman, why weepest thou? She saith unto them, Because they have taken away my Lord, and I know not where they have laid him. 14 And when she had thus said, she turned herself back, and saw Jesus standing, and knew not that it was Jesus. 15 Jesus saith unto her, Woman, why weepest thou? whom seekest thou? She, supposing him to be the gardener, saith unto him, Sir, if thou have borne him hence, tell me where thou hast laid him, and I will take him away. 16 Jesus saith unto her, Mary. She turned herself, and saith unto him, Rabboni; which is to say, Master. 17 Jesus saith unto her, Touch me not; for I am not yet ascended to my Father: but go to my brethren, and say unto them, I ascend unto my Father, and your Father; and to my God, and your God. 18 Mary Magdalene came and told the disciples that she had seen the Lord, and that he had spoken these things unto her. Why does Jesus do so much magic. Magically appearing as a gardner or some other person whom they do not recognize. How is it OK that Jesus does magic? Why should he even deceive in such a way. How is that showing love? Well I guess there we have it. Why you attack and do not show love. Jesus taught you to do that. The New Testament is the Kabbalah. Yet you attack it having no clue you worship the Kabbalah just by a different name. In a worst way.
@steveangell1072
@steveangell1072 4 жыл бұрын
@Cody Bowman Neither does John agree. John 20:1-3 KJV The first day of the week cometh Mary Magdalene early, when it was yet dark, unto the sepulchre, and seeth the stone taken away from the sepulchre. 2 Then she runneth, and cometh to Simon Peter, and to the other disciple, whom Jesus loved, and saith unto them, They have taken away the Lord out of the sepulchre, and we know not where they have laid him. 3 Peter therefore went forth, and that other disciple, and came to the sepulchre. Why did these 11 not decide what really happened. Why did they not talk at length about it. Why does John say Mary did not see Jesus yet now Mark and Luke say Mary did see Jesus? And you believe this. How is that so?

@@1977suhair It may have been real and true. However, be careful! St. John of the Ladder (a 6th century Christian Mystic) warned, "Devils often transform themselves into angels of light and take the form of martyrs, and make it appear to us during sleep that we are in communication with them. Then, when we wake up, they plunge us into unholy joy and conceit. But you can detect their deceit by this very fact. For angels reveal torments, judgments and separations; and when we wake up we find that we are trembling and sad. As soon as we begin to believe the devils in dreams, then they make sport of us when we are awake, too. He who believes in dreams is completely inexperienced. But he who distrusts all dreams is a wise man. Only believe dreams that foretell torments and judgment for you. But if despair afflicts you, then such dreams are also from devils."

I don't that much about the Kabbalah but I do know that Jewish mysticism works. I did a self study of Hebrew. And later, I am now learning biblical Hebrew with the help of "A Hebrew - English Bible" and "Hebrew Interlinear Bible (OT)". It transformed my life. For instance I stopped procrastinating, I'm much neater and I keep my home neat and clean. One example is that my chess score went way higher. Before I play a game of chess now, I read a verse or two from the Tanakh and my score has been raised dramatically. I also now take out the time to learn chess better. The games I won and the moves I made are just too remarkable to say it's a coincidence.

@@adamplentl5588 We know that we humans have different personalities, different goals, different points of views, different experiences. God can communicate, teach, show, fellowship with you in a different way that He may do it with someone else. My suggestion to you is, that you can search and find out the way that God communicates with you, it doesn't have to be only one way or one method. Now, there is something that you may not know, this "communication" gets easier when the Holy Spirit is in you. He teaches us everything about God. To receive the Holy Spirit you must hear the Gospel, believe it and be baptized. If you are interested, i recommend you to go to a church and tell someone there that you would like to receive the Holy Spirit to start your deep communication with God.

@@alio.447 I don't think so. Jesus himself was referred to as Rabbi which means he was trained in the secret wisdom. According to that story, he most definitely was not 40. Look at all the recurrences of the number 40 and they always represent: a cleansing and re-emergence to a new level (Jonah and the whale, Noah's ark, Jesus' trip into the desert), what you might call a purification. I think it is clear that you "must be 40" means you go into the study "pure," for the purpose of raising your awareness to a new level of understanding. Am I right? Am I wrong? I don't care. What I do know is that I have personally experienced tremendous growth studying Kaballah and re-reading the red ink in the New Testament especially as well as the stories in the OLD that obviously have a much deeper meaning than a man in the belly of a whale or building an ark for a coming deluge. It's a shame how far off we are from understanding what those stories mean and it's purely pathetic actually how anyone endeavoring to attain a deeper understanding is met with people saying it's satanic and maybe even worse that you're not "allowed to."

Careful home training free from useless waste from an early age and learning subjects that are compatible to high culture and at 40 , subjects like the Kabbalah are prerequisites to questions that were once too difficult to provide an answer.

Well, I was probably 40 when I discovered that I didn't need to know the way bc the way knew me. It just moved me and I enjoy it's tour. It's quite lovely to let your life live. Inside of you and outside of you.. and to witness it's discovery. If there's no meaning here, perhaps that's the point.

Satan asked me 3 questions ( If I could judge him, if God can change then material order of the universe, if He would go to Hell as a human. Answers.It is useless to judge but preferable to understand and know. In the world of illusions God doesn't need to change the material order of the universe, I went to Hell often as a human, as my messenger. *** I saw paradise and the Great conscious Void from which everything comes. I melted spiritually in a mirror looking at myself depersonalised from within outward. I dealt with demons, Fough for justice beeing suspected of blowing up the army recruitment center. among other things. One of God's messages is Respect women , listen to them if you want to get into paradise. God sent me back on earth as promised.

ive heard of sun gazing, but you can only do it the first half hour of the sun rise, and the last 30 minutes before sun set. due to the UV your eye would recieve looking at it any other time. personally, i do not know, but people swear by it. who knows?

This is extremely interesting in itself and for me specifically. I conduct my search following a different tradition and have browsed about many alternatives just to get an idea of it by myself and to compare, looking for things in common across traditions. The thing of the age of readiness might refer to a level of maturity that will allow you to perceive in a certain way. I think it was in a reading around Yoga that it is mentioned that you can dive into the teachings at an age where you have fulfilled your responsibilties lets say as a householder. And that you have fullfilled certain responsibilies that have to be fullfiled to then put your individed attention on the subject at hand. The other thing, paralell, is that you have to demonstrate that you are ready to be accepted as a disciple. In a Buddhist tradition, if my recall is right, in China, there is this aspiring person asking to be admited to the teachings but is consistently refused. He hangs around trying to demonstrate his sincerity until reaching a point where cuts of one of his hands to show that he is serious, and then he is admitted. One interpretation of the role of the body in advancing within the teachings is that the body is used as a vehicle por advancement. You cultivate the body to better assimilate the teachingss. You get in condition to be able to withstand the physicall rigors of the apprenticeship, you tame wishes and desires stemming from the body, you are careful with the diet, you don't pay attention to aches and pains from lack of sleep, you fast and so on. As a Latino from the caribbean I can't avoid observing the role of Spain around these traditions. The very strong influences of one religion over another is markedly accentuated in the Spanish tradition. There is a famous king I think Alfonso XII, whom they called The Wise, who introduced in his court the most learned of Muslims, Jews and Christians. The jewish sage Maimonides had contacts with Muslims, St Thomas Aquinas accepted points of view from muslims, as a matter of fact at one point he might have been over enthusiastic to the point that he got warnings as to watch it, don't over due it. There are reports from scholars from Spain who found out that teachings from muslim sources were plagiarized by the Catholic Church without giving credit to the source. The jewish historian Chaim Pottock says that the jewish schools of learning in Spain under the muslims had at one point surpassed the schools in Bagdad, who at that point were the one that set the patterns. This has being a very useful program, thank you..

Amazing that Taoism and Buddhism have the same concept about the spiritual connection between the universe and human's inner world, in different languages. The fundamental idea is that looking inward to be fully aware of our original nature is the path to the universal secrets and wisdom.

I couldn't ignore the significant similarities between the buddhist concept of Brahman, the tao of taoism and ain soph of Kabalah, it's basically the same. God in the form of eternal nothingness and by that eternal infiniteness, while we humans as an expression of the material individualistic rebellion have to return to God through self sacrifice and seeking of harmony
