Baldi is this exactly, was just meant to be a gamejam thing but everyone blew it out of proportion for some reason???? It was legit a Slender reskin, albeit more of a joke though, no I don't hate Baldi, tbh it's a funny little game that wasn't meant to be much but the internet again overhyped something as small as Baldi.

It's because the first pre-alpha and alpha 1 was trying to be a VERY scary horror game but then they decided to make the game more story based and funky looking design instead of the fancy design. I have no idea how they made the game physics worse as it was completely fine in the pre-alpha. But the new hello neighbor 2 is giving me hope that they can make a game scary and funky looking. And I'm done.

I don’t know if this is what the developers were going for, but the game gives me old-fashion point and click vibes. Games that had puzzles like: use some trail mix to attract an squid, to trade with a butcher for a knife, to give to the blacksmith to create a saw, to use on a rope for a job, to receive a payment of two gold, to pay the toll to cross a bridge. All with little to no hints of the sequencing.

Man imagine if what was in the basement was actually the son. After losing his wife and daughter the Neighbor couldn't handle losing his son to and decided to hide him away in the basement. Son ain't exactly happy about it and needs to be boarded in so he doesn't get spotted and arrested. That would've been a good tie up for at least some of the stuff and keeps to the original goal in the original beta, finding out what's in the basement Edit: also actually really like the cover on hide and seek bc its extremely common for kids to reenact their trauma through play to make sense of what happened in a safe environment. So it's a fairly accurate representation of what kids going through the trauma of losing their mom might do.

You gotta love how the red key puzzle clearly had a set idea of a proper way to complete it, yet the devs were so incompetent that they literally couldn’t properly program it in, with the gun. The puzzle is so broken that you actually HAVE to resort to the shoe glitch in order to beat it.

I was watching a KZfaqr play this game, an old video of 8 hours long and what frustrates me the most in those 8 hours is that the game left him Soft-locked, you know why? this same red key puzzle that gives Double Jump's ability wasn't done because he didn't know how to solve it (was playing without seeing Chat or looking online) and Double Jump was what got him stuck in one part, 8 hours for nothing he managed to get through most of the puzzles that needed the double jump by force, how does a game manage to do that?
@jaxmc3547
@jaxmc3547 Жыл бұрын
Worst part is that I'm pretty sure the solution WORKS, it's just so convoluted and they literally contradicted themselves designing the fucking puzzle. In the room with the lever, there are objects on the shelves that you can't pick up, and when you throw something on them, they turn green. If you manage to turn all of them green, the lever is unlocked and you can get the red key. You'd think that now with you convolutedly-acquired toy gun, you could easily do that but no, the puzzle specifically DESIGNED to be solved with a specific tool is inside a room which shuts off its entrance when you bring the fucking tool.
@Lasmelan
@Lasmelan Жыл бұрын
@@jaxmc3547 You missed the obvious part where by throwing the gun into the hole with the gears that power the magnet, and then pulling on a lever in one of the rooms inside the gate, you get the gun from a giant bronze tube and can then use it inside that set of rooms. I mean, it was so obvious, how could you have not thought of that? It's a shame that a lot of the puzzles sound genuinely interesting on paper, but there are always unintuitive things about their execution and people are almost forced to just watch a walkthrough.

the sad thing is that Hello Neighbour's Alphas seem to point to a completely different game, where you played as a paranoid dude who was trying to break into the Neighbour's house to find out what he was hiding in his basement, with it being suggested that the Neighbour was a murderer and it looked darker and less...eccentric, and msot notable of all the Neighbour was COMPLETELY different as was the gameplay, where the parkour was just one element where you could find multiple approaches to multiple ways of getting inside, and the Neighbour would counter in different ways to halt you afer he catches you (such as laying traps and even reinforcing windows and doors if you use them multiple times) and he was actually active and smart. It seems like for some reaosn they COMPLETELY changed their ideas of the game and what they wanted from it during development, focusing less on the neighbour and trying to beat him and this bizarre "easter egg lightbulb' approach they implemented for the full game. You can play the Alphas to this day and far more people enjoy those.

“This game wasn’t meant for me,” well, yeah, but then... Who IS supposed to be the target audience? Little kids like let’s plays of this game, but with how unintuitive the puzzles are, they’d never get any enjoyment out of it. Even OLDER, legit gamers find the games frustrating, it’s not just you. Even if you were in it just for the lore, these games aren’t worth the hassle. A mechanically broken game is a broken game. I do suppose you’re right however, it’s amazing to see an indie developer rise to such success, and who knows? Maybe in the future we’ll get a remaster once they get the gameplay down and story finalized.

Hot take: the additions to the house and convoluted puzzles could work as a representation of the Neighbor’s increasing paranoia. The puzzles shouldn’t have been what they were, but more along the lines of real traps taken to a game world. Like, the Collier brothers meets the Joker in a surreal house. The house starts off normal for a person who just so happens to be crazy, but the player’s repeat trespassing worsens the Neighbor’s maniac paranoia. Because of whatever is in the basement, the Neighbor can’t call the police to deal with your meddling. Even the dream scenarios could have been an interesting look at the Neighbor’s paranoid perspective of the world, especially the grocery store one.

The answer: some people love FNaF like hidden lore and being able to play in a game world where you can do whatever you want and even play the game differently (that is not necessarily going into this guy's boarded up door). Glitches makes things even better and hilarious (unless its a glitch that ruins the entire gameplay in which case, its fair to rant about it). The community is very active and developers listens to them. Some people has been playing this game since its first alpha and is one of those games you cant ignore after playing it for so long (like Team Fortress 2). Some people tries to ignore the bad things about the game and makes it enjoyable. The franchise is extremely big and people love the whole mustached-man lore as well as its unique gameplay. Now, can you specify what promises did the developpers made and scrapped?

@@sgandrf umm yeah they did make those promises clearly you didn't follow development of the original game and all the advertisement they did, they promised a smart AI they promised a stealth horror environment they promised the neighbor to be a persistent threat, and they highly advertised the "whats in the basement" story arc, investment means you have to have a story and characters to be invested in (emotionally or OTHERWISE) lore doesn't matter if the game is breaking the stealth horror enviroment they promised, there's just mini games and an antagonist you arent invested nor interested in

I believe a game has to focus on a message, a subject, or a mechanic. I never played Hello Neighbor, but according to the video I watched: it started as a simple game about a kid trying to prove a neighbor is a dangerous criminal. It matches the game title (when caught: “Hello, neighbor…”). And the aesthetics (a neighbor that looks harmless, but supposedly the kid knows there's something wrong). But the designers deviated that main subject and tried to add a lot of unrelated mechanics and a convoluted story, trying to be smarter than it is. And leads to nothing. Games like FNaF and Among Us have simple mechanics and focus on a subject. For instance, the paranoia, like in The Thing movie. I think Hello Neighbor thought the minimalist map (a house) isn't enough, and it needed to be bigger, instead of taking advantage of the small are. It could have been like a detective game where you learned more about the neighbor each day you're hiding and exploring it, until you find the truth. I believe it would better if it was like Home Alone: the neighbor is a nice guy after all with some personal issue.

as a person who has also read the books , the book lore is so much better than anything , i wish they went along with the book lore + used prototype game function and cut scenes , iv also looked into so much characters and depth in cut out scenes , secrets and characters that aren’t even introduced yet , i can well say its a wasted potential for such a good plot .

I think if they added notes or some kind of inspection tool to the original, the puzzles would be a lot easier to get through, like maybe notes next to items you need to solve certain puzzles. Like the gramophone, If there was a note next to it talking about how the tomato plants shrivel when hearing the music, then you’d put it together in your head, and it would be a lot less weird and random

I'm pretty sure most people didn't notice this first scene in act 3 which is why they called the playing dumb and stupid for going back to the old neighborhood. The letter the player gets, its actually pretty clear that he has gotten evicted from his apartment. Although I do agree with EVERYTHING in this video the first 2 alphas were better than the final game ;)

Something to say, the trampoline in act 2 is supposed to be opened up by finding a water heater that is only accessible by breaking a window then heating it up by pulling a hot-cold lever and going to the room in front of the door that is right in front of the entrance and putting the valve down to turn the machine next to it on then pulling the lever next to it and the red key puzzle is supposed to be solved by throwing an object at the button behind the gate with the door that is to the right of the lever to access the lever

I think act3 looks like that because it's a big nightmare, it recopilates the childhood traumas of the main protagonist, Nicky Rod into one big house, the most traumatic part was act 2(obiously he was kidnapped) and as the house was blvery big at that time the house in the nightmare was enourmous and all of this was triggered because he couldn't pay rent so he went to the house he inherited from his parents and swing the neighbour's house it triggered the memories of when he was a child so he has to get into the basement to defeat his fears
