Currently working on a large camp knife for my personal use. Making it from a Bellota Rasp, with a Bill Moran style blade and Jim Crowell style handle.

I agree that generally scrap is not going to do for a knife especially . I recently used a file of my grandfathers which came to me by my father to make a knife, it had a tapered edge with a built in handle so annealing it and grinding out a little more stock to lengthen the handle was appropriate but I basically left it the same shape. I made a bowie typoe point and ground a long bevel to make sure it was thin enough to cut well then made a micarta handle out of several of my old tshirts..lots of glue, some brass pins my son bought me and a questionable quench I have a knife Its not hard enough to keep its edge particularly well but its the personal nature of the ingredients that make it what it is for me. Sometime its nice to make "something different" and just see how it goes. Would love to see the finished product

I like the knife profile. Can't go wrong with what I call a woodsman profile . The handle profile I really like & I dont think you're in a rut. Also, (I've mentioned this before) I really like how you work the heel. And it's not just how but when in the order of operation. Well done, good video. Thanks.

I feel like you can identify alloy if you can date the object, and know the brand is reputable and lists their material. I believe certain Nicholsons are always W1

One of my first knife was made from similar rasp(exact same size and patterns). Of course I didnt forge it, just used like 10000 grinding discs and almost messed up my dad grinder, as I was like 14yo and I grinded it so long that metal was almost orange :D Quenching was also amazing as I used.... 2 propane torch and new bottle of car oil that was in garage, and of course I put that in to the bottle after use and it ended in our car later... Good times.... short good times as of course I didnt knew that you need to reheat metal after hardening so it broke after I tried to chop everything wooden thing I saw

Coming from a small sample I have found that files are 1095 or 1080 someplace around those parts however rasps are not. Infact hardening them can be tricky, for me anyway. 55HRC is about the best I have ever gotten. I generally steer clear of rasps for this reason.. hope that is of some help.

My creator account is closed. I closed it a few years ago. I just checked and it’s still closed, I’m not getting any money and have no subscribers. If they’re taking money they’re keeping it or someone set up a fake account w my name on it although when I search green beetle on their website nothing comes up. Send me a screen capture of what you’re noticing.

Coming from someone who works out everyday. It takes effort to lose muscle mass. You can take precautions to maintain muscle. You don't need much attention to preserve muscle. Dumbells are easily accessible and cheap. I encourage people to be more physically active no matter the ailment.

After 40 we lose 1% of our muscle mass per year. Very easy to lose muscle at my age. It takes effort to keep muscle mass and even with maximal effort it’s still a net loss at some point.
