JFK Kennedy Ambulance at Barrett-Jackson (real or fake?)

This 1963 Pontiac ambulance was used to transport President John F. Kennedy's body from Air Force One following his assassination in Dallas on November 22, 1963. It was built in June 1963 and is one of 15 delivered to various service branches. It's U.S. Navy data plate shows it was assigned to Bethesda Naval Hospital. Following President John F. Kennedy's assassination on November 22, 1963 it met Air Force One at Andrews Air Force Base. 94-49196 was used to transport President Kennedy's flag draped casket as well as members of the Kennedy family from Andrews to Bethesda and later to the U.S. Capitol. Following naval service, the ambulance was moth-balled and eventually sold as surplus. It is PHS documented. It was shown at the 2010 Military Vehicle Preservation Association National Convention where it won the Gold Award. It has appeared in Supply Line magazine and is featured on the Pontiac Online website.
There is some controversy as to whether it is real or fake.

Ambulance never left Andrews Air Force Base JFK body was flown by helicopter to the Navy Hospital. I witness the landing at the Navy Hospital in Bethesda November 22 1963.

+Jason1920 Total Fake people in the USA will try to make $$ off anything that has real history to it, it has been proven time & time all over again that they will sell anything to make $$, especially FAKE items. :) That's why you have to make sure you do all the important research into what you are going to buy, like in the USA to think that cars owned by Famous people goes for more $$, just because that person owned it & if you have a car that has more than 1 famous person who owned & drove the car its worth is even more. also a car like that would be at a museum not at a auction like Barrett & Jackson ? The NAVY would have mothballed it, just like the moth ball Grave yard for all the ex military planes, how many of those planes / Tanks, Jeeps from WW2 etc etc. Guns used by Generals, Marine Military Items, Swords from Japan, to think how many Zeros & the pilots that had well made swords with them during the war, they are worth a lot of $$ just as examples.

The burden of proof here is on those making claims that this ambulance is indeed the JFK ambulance. It is up to the seller and others making claims to its authenticity to answer any questions that arise from the documentation.

from the stories ive been told in the 1980s the Kennedy family gave permission to the Museum to Crush the Ambulance and it was crushed at a scrap yard in boston massachusetts so what you see on barret jackson is a replica . Its been proven to be a fake, so that man brought a resto of a 1963 ambo thats it, which he could have got for around 20K totally restored, meaning that buying one which is still in driving order and doing the resto on it, ripped real bad ,think of the cars which come through there and for that price, lol :)

@@7071t6Tammy Allen, a car collector and one-time private car museum operator, reportedly paid the auction buyer slightly more than the price we all saw on TV for the car. Ms. Allen was known to be a personal friend of Keith Jackson. Rumors abound that the rapid resale of the ambulance was orchestrated by B-J to appease the auction buyer who belatedly heard that the car he bought was NOT the real JFK car. Did Ms. Allen perhaps received some undocumented financial help courtesy of the auction house?

Exactly! It's just another cheap shot way of making yet another greedy fucking pile of money off the JFK assassination. If books, movies, documentaries, magazines and researcher groups aren't enough we have to sell the ambulance his body was in to make even more money! Hey, how about doing the same with the Lincoln he was gunned down in too? Imagine how much that could go for I wonder? Maybe not much without the original blood spattered interior they changed to destroy the evidence! This Kennedy thing turned into a real cash cow so why should they come out with the truth and put all these people out of work?

Big mistake the car that took the casket had Jackie & RFK get in which was on the drivers side of the car, where did RFK sit, if there's only 1 seat on the other side & the CASKET would have prevented anyone getting in & room for 2 people to sit in that other side, after all they would have taken out the original Ambo bed to make room for the casket to go in, think about it people, look at the footage. FAKE 100% or made to look like & sell the so called original AMBO that took the CASKET to Bethesda hospital from Andrew's air force base. DATA Plate was on the inside on the glove compartment, not on the outside pinned to the panel on the outside, what a crock of BS. anything for people to make $$ full stop. Anyone please send a link to the same type of 1963 NAVY Ambo used with the DATA Plate pinned to the outside of the glove compartment ?

The reason that Lincoln is at THF... The car was leased to the federal government. Ford Motor Co. owned the car when it was stretched into a limo, when JFK was shot, when it was rebuilt, extensively armored and returned to the White House fleet, and when it was retired.

We knew this was fake years before this auction. This was bought with the intent to defraud buyers.Craig had been told about the seller's background as a scam artist and sold it anyway. The chain of custody was way too far out of whack to confirm it's origin.The Kennedy hearse is without a doubt the actual hearse that carried JFK's body however.

People please just watch the movie gone in 60 Seconds the Original, Again how many times Now days with the Technology is it to fake documents & Vin Plates please, you would have to make sure that all supporting documents are taken to labs to make sure that its all original, sure you can get via FOI act, but why would you if this was the original car then the government would present the car in its original state, not all re done, after all whats the old saying if your going to by a antique make sure you dont touch it, its worth more in its original state & if you have the original paperwork to go with it its worth LOT LOT more.

Barrett Jackson should forever be ashamed of the slipshod way they accepted the claimed provenance of this car. This car and the one that did carry JFK's body from Andrews to Bethesda were two of the 15 '63 Bonneville ambulances purchased for use at Navy hospitals. The one that actually carried JFK was in storage after being retired in 1980. It was available to Kennedy family for display at the JFK Presidential Library in Boston. The family declined and at their request it was destroyed. The car auctioned by Barrett Jackson is a legitimate Navy ambulance. It had been purchased by a private party, and restored to like new appearance, renumbered to look like the actual Kennedy car, and appeared in a movie about JFK's assassination. The Proffesional Car Society, a group of auto restoration enthusiasts, researched the fate of the original car, and the provenancc of the auction car. The original was indeed dismantled and crushed at an auto salvage yard in Dorchester, MA in1986... fully documented on paper and in photographs . The evidence proved conclusively...
