Simple and easy with big results. I do believe I will be making this....... So I made it and it's awesome I want a little bit too high so most of the bottom is black but the top got the desired effect at the shoulders and neck and chest area. Next time I know but definitely a great pattern

A couple of things here...first, if you are getting a new 100% cotton t-shirt, it comes with sizing on it to remove wrinkles in packaging. This will inhibit dye uptake. You really need to wash it (with some sort of detergent). I could not see if he had soap, but just water isn't going to remove it. Second...dont put your wet shirt in the soda ash, and for heavens sake wear some sort of latex or non latex gloves. Soda ash is caustic and will dry your skin out to where it will get red, cracked, and irritated, and you should always wear a mask when handling dry soda ash you are mixing with the water. Also dont use the dye without gloves either. Constant exposure of your skin contacting the dye can eventually cause sensitivity to it and you can become allergic...needless to say it will stain your hands and will take several days to come off. Dyeing fabric is lots of fun...just do it safely.

I was just thinking that getting one of those little washer dryers to use for tye dye instead of using my good top loader machines,would probably be a great idea. Apparently I'm not alone in having that idea..Beautiful work on the shirt too,& I 💙 it !

The washer/dryer caught my attention. What type is it? Is it those less expensive smaller one I've seen. I think I need that too since I wash some clothing by hand anyways & don't have a washer/dryer here.

I'm new to the hobby and just wondering if that deep blue was mixed by you or did you purchase it? I cant seem to find a color labeled "deep blue" on any of the sites I usually get dyes from.

Different fiber/cloth types take dyes diffferently and need different things to make dyes stay put (and often take different kinds of dyes too). Soda ash is what cotton answers too

Soda ash increases the PH which promotes better color transfer to the cloth. You can do it without the soda ash but it’s just not as good.
