Running my mpc drums in to the jhs pedals colour box v2 preamp guitar effects pedal and the hot wax ehx has been amazing for mixing my drums in mpc live mk2 this will also work on the mpc x or the mpc live for mixing you would just have to rout your signal a bit different in the mpc one. using these two guitar pedals for mixing drums has really brought out new textures and sounds to my sample based boom bap beatmaking production.

Colour Box is so useful. Synths, guitar, drums, vocals. It gives everything finesse, can add character & kinda ‘class’. Rarely do i turn it off and think ‘eh, sounds better without it.’ Beck’s touring group, every person on stage has one of those on their instrument chain. For a reason. 😉The only problem is, now i want another one to do stereo.

FMR RNC1773 'Really Nice' Compressor is one that often gets mentioned but forgotten. It has a nice price and has been around for a while. With side chain. Oh yeah ! Nice video.

Speaking of preamps in the 50's there were thousands of small radio stations needing a single preamp for one mic in a studio running live DJ's and news rooms etc. The HANDY FX Transmission pedal is based off of just such just such a pre. Even left at low levels of gain it creates a great sound but it gets very interesting when pushed past it's headroom into some distortion. Best of all it only $120.00 USD

I nerd out with distortion pedals. Distorted piano is one of my favorite. My favorite OD pedal is Dr. Scientist The Elements, which has a clean blend… you can parallel the signal in-box. I’m also a huge fan of EHX operation Overlord. If you want to just barely dirty up and amp a fainter signal, Dunlop EP101 echoplex. I use that anytime I want to dirty up digital signals that sound too “nice.”

Connect your Mpc One to an external mixer (usb class compliant) or audio interface for additional outputs / inputs if you want to experiment with pedals and don’t have the live etc.

Hey Malo, just don't forget about those that only have an MPC, I really have no desire or need for any other hardware. I'm def not getting swallowed down the rabbit hole of feeling like I need loads of other equipment. An MPC and plenty of creativity is all you need.

Hey Henry, you’re absolutely right and I’ve been making music with just the MPC and it’s been amazing I just started purchasing a few guitar pedals to throw into the mix to add a bit of extra sauce but it’s definitely not needed this is for anybody that wants to start incorporating different sounds to the mix. After a while of using it, what's your verdict on the hot wax? Another interesting option could be the operation overlord pedal...it's even in stereo!

I love the wax the distortion is so pleasing on drum breaks or anything rhythmic. Thank you so much for the suggestion I’m actually looking at it as we speak and also love the fact that it’s a stereo pedal. I’m gonna be picking up a few more petals very soon and I think this one is going to be on my list, thank you for hanging out with me on this video brother 🙏🏽🙏🏽

Thank you millions for this man. I've been debating the JHS for months and it was driving me crazy. I've started to look around for gear that will help all my software instruments "fake" some analog fizz and some rough edges (warmth can be done with EQ). But the JHS was the first piece of gear i was thinking about getting --you just sold me on it. It sounds great, and your video's drum work was able to clearly define its sound (as opposed to guitar videos). After the JHS, I'll be looking to pair it with a analog mixer. The Model One mixer is at the top of the list --today anyway. I just wish i had a pocket full of cash to buy the Neve mix board that the JHS pedal has its circuit modeled from. Have you tried any UAD Neve modeled Pre-amps and EQs with your nice UA DI sitting there?

Your channel rocks, and your beats are fire!🤘👏...pedals with the mpc are a game changer, especially freindly for the cpu...been routing the mpc through the Boss RE20 space echo (hiiiiiiigly reccomend it), Electrico Harmonix ADSR (for drums and bass) and the Meris Hedra (vocals mainly)...routing all that through the Tascam model 12 mixer to Ableton...having the ability to be more tactile with your mpc moreso than manipulating plugins really takes the mpc to a level that I dont even think Akai was even aware of... Any plans to dive into using the MPC's CV capabilities?

@@noname-ng6sj perhaps I wasn't clear on that I use the ADSR moreso as a compressor than a reverser...also thee assumption might be that my music is more "beat based", I lean more towards experimental soundscapes, so in my case I can get better manipulation of transients and textures in this way

Hey Niles, that’s a great question and most of these paddles are mono which is a bummer but all of my drums that I use in my own sample pack are all in mono so it works for me but if you’re using stereo drums you might run into some minor issues. Pretty same reasons that I do not have a stereo guitar pedal yet I’m only running my drums to add some texture but I am looking into some stereo pedals so I can start running my samples to do that down the road

@@nilsliebich1822 dude, I am literally about to pull the trigger on another one because I love how the EQ sounds and want to use it as a stereo buzz EQ on my mix it kind of reminds me of a pultec EQ anyway. That’s awesome, if you find a deal I don’t think you will regret it.

Man brother, that’s a great question and I honestly don’t see anything coming out soon from them since they just released the keys 61 MPC, I don’t know of any updates but I’m not sure there’s gonna be something new anytime soon.

I think of anything was coming anytime soon it would have been announced. They wouldn’t let NAMM go by without giving influencers a chance to build up some hype about it. Just like they did with the Keys.

Do you think using the hot wax alone on the drums will give it a gritty boom bap sound similar to Griselda type beats

The hot wax pedal is very aggressive but if you push it gentle, you could definitely get some amazing crunchy distortion on them drums. It does not work for every single beat but if you want that Grammy Sound, it definitely will saturate your drums and a pleasing way.
