Tabidachinotoki ~Asian Dream Song~ was created to be a theme song for the 1998 Winter Paralympics being held in Nagano, Japan. Released as a CD single in 1997, the main vocal version of the song was also included in the 1998 album "Hope - Nagano Paralympics 1998 Tribute", which included a piano version of the song as a closer.
The composition and arrangement for the song is Joe Hisaishi's work. Looking at contemporary works of the time, such as Kids Return, Parasite Eve, and Princess Mononoke, one can clearly hear Hisaishi's '90s sound in this track. A synth marimba opens the album, which can also be found used in the main theme from Kids Return, and of course, Silent Love from A Scene at the Sea. The majority of the track drops the marimba, but the warm, atmospheric synths do carry through.
While Kazufumi Miyazawa is credited with "song", it is clearly hisaishi's sound which carries through in the music. Asian Dream Song has received later piano and orchestral arrangements, and has become a staple of Hisaishi's live concerts.
