Visited mutianyu great wall 3 years ago. If I have a chance to back to great wall, i definitely will try this route.

hi. thank you for the video! i did not understand the name of the tower you climbed up first on the wall ? was it Zhengbeilou? i heard it is not so easy to find the way. that one branch .. after how many kilometers or minutes will it be reached?

Yes, the tower is called zhengbeilou. Some people might be getting lost of the branch way. I had heard 1 person get lost 1 week ago. I will update the video soon with more details.

Hi. Leo, is there any way to find out ahead of time if this section of the wall is open? I have seen that it may be closed in the month of July since it is the rainy season. If this is the case, do you have any suggestions about doing the hike in reverse starting at Mutianyu and going to Jiankou? Thanks!

Hi Ben, during the covid, the section of the wall not open to the public. If you want to visit, most of the time you should have a local person lead you in or stay at a local family hotel.

Hi Leo which Xizhazi village did you walk from? I heard Xizhazi Team 2 village is the best if you want to go from Zhengbeilou tower to Mutianyu.

I went to team 2 which is the easiest way for this hike

Where is the best place to camp along Jiankou to Mutianyu?

jiankou is better for camping. You can choose Zhengbeilou

Hi, regret I didnt find this video before. May I know where exactly the starting point? Is it Xizhazi 1 dui village or Nanjili? Last week, I went solo from (I think) Xizhazi 1 village, it doesn't look the same like in your video. Thank you

Yes, the village built the road last november.

looking at this map it looks like walking from nanjili (marked) is the best option. www.openstreetmap.org/node/4809692321#map=15/40.4616/116.5334 or should i pick one village to the west? the way up to the wall (then it will be jiankou spot and not zenghbeilou-tower) looks much shorter than from nanjili. thank you!

If you are not super adventure and just want to enjoy the great view of the wall, walk up from Nanjili village is more than enough.

The hike from nanjili to mutianyu is 11kms. If you walk west you will get to the more wild part. It is a bit dangerous, If you don't have mountain hike experience, it is better not do that.
