I first heard this medley (Mouse in the Mug/Black Pat’s/Larry's Favourite/Liffey Banks) by a band called Kayna. I think they are all traditional Irish tunes. I added "Liffey Banks", which I learned from Tony McManus's album "Pourquoi Quebec".I originally wanted to do a reduced version of this medley, because who wants to listen to a five minute long medley these days?? But in the end I found I couldn't leave anything out, so here it is!
Medley of first three tunes - Anthony Davis and Liam O'Sullivan
Transcription for guitar - Stephen Wake
Celtic Fingerstyle Guitar / Acoustic Guitar / Fingerstyle Guitar / Celtic Guitar / Guitar Tabs / Celtic Music
Larrivee OM-02
Elixir Strings
CGDGCD - Capo G7th on 3rd fret

Hi Stephen! Great technique with your right hand. I play acoustic guitar since I was a child and I studied a lot of Celtic tunes arranged by Morone, Bensusan etc. But in the last two years I haven't touched my guitar almost at all due to different things happened in my life. Well, then I heard your arrangements and they are stunning. I just bought you're tabs and started practice again. Thanks!

He`s a tasty player alright but you do realise you are hearing two guitars on this video, the audio on the video was recorded in the studio and Stephen is just doing his thing outside for the visual aspect, I read your comment and thought.....reply to this.....one of my mates thought he was playing it live in the video.....take care and keep playing..

Good man Stephen, are you honestly say there is just one guitar on that tune? You didn't double track or give yourself a wee bit of subtle accompanyment? If that's the case then I apologise for the suggestion and I tip my hat to you 😎 I've been playing almost 41 years as a trad player a session player rock blues and jazz, I'm gonna have to listen to the tune again in the studio, I'm not trying to prove you wrong I wanna check and test my ears 👍 peace and love to you Brother Man ✌️❤️😎

@@DocRockBaby I've listened to most of Stephens Wakes tracks, It never crossed my mind to think the guitar is double tracked. I do think it is excellently recorded. Neither did it cross my mind that it was actually recorded outside. I just find his style and approach to playing a breath of fresh air . After years of watching technically brilliant classical and Steel string guitar players , "Beatin' the shite out of guitars" . I just really really like this playing. So I bought one of his albums which came with the music and Tabs, and It's trying to learn a couple of his tunes that is keeping my playing .. and I have good days and bad days :-)

@@eoinbutler100 Good man Eoin, Stephen assures me that its one guitar and one track, so I apologised for the suggestion but told him I was going to listen to it again in the studio just to check my ears, for me the jury is still out, Ive been playing for 40 odd years taught myself how to play and learned everything by ear, I cant read music or tabs and dont understand theory and this is the first time they let me down, dont get me wrong Im not trying to put him down or take away from him the man is a fantastic player with a gorgeous touch, Im just not 100% convinced, stick with the playing if youre having trouble with certain parts just break them down to 2 or 3 notes if you have to,, as for good/bad days we all get them, take care duder,

Also, random thought - thank you for mentioning the idea of a reduced set! Many traditional Irish recordings have extremely long sets, where the tunes are played anywhere from 3 to 5×. And if there is a double (32 bar) reel) for example, that can get lengthy. I’ve noticed a lot of Scottish & Nova Scotia musicians play longer sets (with several more tunes), but they are played only twice through. This is not always the case but I do like it. It can get burdensome as well, playing long sets with complicated, note-y tunes. Even just playing a set of three reels, three times through, can be too long sometimes. It’s fun to do it twice thru and then move on I think. I’ve played fiddle and whistle by the way, since 2000. :-)

Yup: I used to have a 0-model Larrivée to, but I got rid of in a previous life, and I think I'm regretting that now. I stuck to my 2 German steel-string Lakewood made by Lakewood (Martin Seeliger) in Gießen, Germany. One ist an 0-18, the other one a dreadnought model. You have such a full-bodied and crystal-clear that underlies your excellent fingerwork. Truly inspiring.

Love these Celtic songs and especially in fingerstyle. I find tuning to 432 HZ really brings out that melodic soulful sound compared to the brightness of 440. Early Celtic music was probably played in 432, so I'm going back to the roots to fully appreciate it. If you were so inclined, could you do a Jig or Reel in 432 for comparison?
