In my own opinion. Jihad today shouldn't be an act of terrorising people or nations as we have it today with extremist. It rather should be establishing dominance, influence and authority over nations not necessarily by fighting. This is exactly what the west and other superpowers are doing. They go into people's land and establish authority and power and bring with them democracy a system that appears fair, and gives freedom to all. And they do all this systematically, politically and diplomatically. And if need be they use force (militarily). You cannot achieved anything by just terrorising people. You will do more harm than good. In fact your own brothers (muslims) will stand against you and you will see them too as enemies because you will think they are siding with the enemies. Jihad shouldn't be a barbaric act of terrorism. That's a perspective the likes of Nouman and other scholars are desperate to express but it's difficult to explain it when there are bunch of evidences telling us to just fight and fight until all is for Allah. Fighting is with sense, compassion, mercy. I know this for sure, if these superpowers (America and the likes) are to behave barbaric and extreme like these extremist are behaving, they would have wipe them out. If these extremists have the power America has, they would have done worse because they will do nothing with diplomacy and gentleness.
