Oh, how I wish I heard some of these little tidbits that wig wearers sometimes deal with in the beginning of my wig journey. I would have felt less confused, and more like...Ok, I am not alone, here! I know some of these will seem SO OBVIOUS...but, they were not at all when I first started wearing them! I never want to forget those early days, because many of you may also JUST be starting, or thinking about getting your first wig. I hope many of you feel this is helpful, and inspiring to give it a go...even knowing some of these little eye openers. I am SO happy I did!

Wig wearing is a journey. Don't expect to pick one out, put it on and go about your life. In the past year, I have ordered twelve wigs and had to return NINE of them. Jill's channel is wonderful for wig lore and advice. Patti's Pearls and Crazy Wig Lady's channels are priceless for wig reviews. Persevere!!!

I was so put off from buying a wig because of a negative experience. It happened at a wig store. I watch a few youtube channels that talk about wigs and feel more comfortable with Jill, Taz, Monika, ATypical60 or whomever I'm watching. I've bookmarked 3 wig recommendations after watching these ladies. The salesperson at the wig store only seemed interested in making a sale. Thank goodness for youtube.

Been wearing wigs off and on for years due to thinning hair. I've found some more comfortable than others, but NONE are actually comfortable for me because my head is SO sensitive and I have chronic neck and muscle spasms... the wigs make it worse and I end up hating the darn things about half way through the day. I've spent so much money on wigs, toppers, powders to cover the bald spots... I'm so tired of worrying about my hair, so last week I buzzed it off! Or I should say my husband buzzed it for me! Does it look good? Heck no, but wow, talk about liberating! I just keep telling myself, there's more to me than my hair! Cheers to all of the wigs wearers out there, because there are some really beautiful ones!

Diane, Read Your Comment. In My Opinion, BALD is Sexy On Men and even Cool-Looking On Women ! ! ! I'm a Gutsy Person, but to Do That, Not so much. I Would Really LUV to though. Ya' could Wear Cool Earring's, which would Be More Noticeable or Do Almost Bald, and Have Design's Cut-Out On Your Head. Just Make It FUN and ENJOY ! ! ! 🤪

Great video.... Makes me want to write a book but I’ll be brief... I’m 70 years young and a 40 year wig wearer... My how things have improved!!Wearing a wig is like wearing glasses, or a bra, or any clothing, or shoes... just something we do in our culture..I’ve never worn high dollar wigs or super cheap... always synthetic... I receive way more compliments on my hair than others with “real” hair. I have been about to drive away from my house and said “oh gee I’m missing my hair”... When I look around a room full of women and I’m 99%sure I’m the only wig wearer... I also realize that my “hair “ looks better than most women in the room . Love wearing wigs. What a blessing

I just want to tell you how much I love and appreciate you!! I have been wearing wigs on and off for almost four years, since I was diagnosed with stage 4 ovarian cancer and lost my hair from chemo. I wish I had found you back then. All my wigs are from The American Cancer Society and I got from my hospital boutique. I got to try them on but it was never explained to me about how to keep them on ... wig grips, glue etc. I hated my wigs. They were not secure and always ended up down my forehead.... embarrassing!! I found you a couple months ago and I am so much happier. You are my life saver ... seriously. I use It Stays now and WOW what a difference. Thank you, thank you ,thank you for all your videos. I learn so much from you every time I watch you. I also watch all your makeup tutorials and love them also. Sorry to go on and on. I just want you to know how much I appreciate you. ❤

Thanks so much for this video. I am not a stranger to hair loss and wearing a wig for supportive cosmetic purposes. Mine never feels like hats, more like scarves or bandanas. The worst for me was forgetting for a moment in time that I shouldn't drive my car, (a hot red mustang convertible) whilst wearing my "fun-fur". Sucker flew right off my head and that was the last I saw of it. I just burst out laughing, and the best part of OMG was the sight of the little kid riding in his car seat in the lane next to me...I have no idea what he thought, but his big eyes and little "OH!" made my day. Thank goodness it wasn't an expensive wig, but if that helps anyone to realize how you just become accustomed to having hair without a care. It was hysterical. And I'm still wearing my wigs. Why not?I

Thank you, Miss P! I keep coming back here to see new comments and see myself in just about every one. I think Jill struck a chord with all of us on a lot of issues. She may not have meant to, but she sure did...thankfully!! My hair loss started about 4 years ago due to auto immune disease. A wig used to be a choice for me. Now it is a necessity. I have had a recent epiphany...my wig is now and forever will be a part of my life. I must learn to love her as my new best friend. It has taken me 4 years to accept her into my life! Hair loss plus acceptance is not a good combo! I always felt like I was the only gal going through this. Boy, was I wrong! I had no idea there are so many of us. I hate this for all of us, but at least we know we are NOT alone. Good luck and best wishes to all of us on this road.

Thank you for this video. You have answered quite a few of my questions. I have purchased around 20 wigs in the last year and have all those questions about why this is happening, why that is happening and keep ordering to find the perfect wig for me. I have already come to the conclusion that I should stop looking and just try to get the most out of the ones I already have. And mostly I have always been so hot when wearing wigs but could not figure out why no one else complains about it. I read wig reviews, etc. and listened to what other women were saying, but mostly they just say how the wigs are so perfect for them and so comfortable. Hearing you talk about the warm wigs, stray hairs, not feeling like real hair, etc. makes me feel normal and I think I will start wearing them a little more. Thanks again!

Thanks for the "heads up"!! Ha ha! All so true! My pet peeve is when my wig grip is too tight or slipped & pulling my bio hair. Oh but the days it is just right it us comfty! You still know it's on but I agree with another viewer's comment "it is like wearing a bra". Much needed necessity. I call it my "hair hat"& sock for my head!! I wouldn't trade it back for my current bio hair. Love the option of style & convenience & never having a bad hair day. I notice you get treated soooo much better with pretty hair than with compromised hair!! On a different note they are hot in summer & with menopause but on the upside it keeps your head so toasty in the cold!! I love the BLACK BACK DROP!!! It keeps viewers focused & no distractions!! Glad your back! Keep up the good work!!

I have heard people on YT who say they forget they are wearing a wig. In 3 years of wearing a wig I have NEVER forgotten I had a wig on. Thank you for telling the truth! I am a hot natured person and I must be careful in the summer which wig I wear. I have actually have become accustomed to having a wet head under my wig, necessitating more washing. I do not have enough hair to go without a wig so I look for a wig with less volume for summer. Thank you for a great video. I feel less alone when I hear you have the same problems. By the way, you look soooo pretty today and this is one of the best, if not THE best wig video out there.

Thank you so much for your Channel. I am just beginning my wig journey and really hadn't even thought about it until a wig video popped up as I was scrolling through KZfaq. I have fibromyalgia and chronic fatigue and doing anything with hair and makeup is often just not something I can manage. I have had very short hair for many years and it even sometimes is still not something I can manage. I am hopeful that a nice short pixie wig will look natural on me and be much easier for me to manage especially when I'm feeling exhausted.

Excellent video, very informative. I’ve been wearing hair pieces and now wigs for 30 years and do get frustrated from time to time. The best hair I ever had was a human hair system that was made and tailored to me. But it became a pain to spend 4 hours each month at a salon and it was expensive. But it was as close to my own hair as you can get. You sleep in it, wash it like regular hair, and style it. That said, I like the ease of synthetic wigs and it doesn’t bother me to wear it all day. As you say, “roll with it” because at the end of the day, it’s 1000% better than my own hair and the drawbacks for me, far outweigh the issues. Thanks again for posting this.

The headband on the back of the head does make it less like a full wig and as it can blend in when it is the correct color that does go with the color of wig or as close as possible and just pulls some hair back and holds it down and keep the wig from coming off. that makes it look much more normal on anyone. I have not had such fly aways, but do need to thin them out. I have thinning shears and I watched videos on how to do it, and just work on them and think them out, as my own hair is not as thick as the wigs look. I have fine hair. So it makes a difference to think them out often. Appreciate all the keys of what to do with wigs is great and thank you for helping people realize that a wig will feel like a wig no matter wah we do or what we buy Some may be better than others, and I have used synthetic goods on my synthetic wigs too. you are so right about this tip. I would say that probably going to hairdresser would be a good way to have it thinned or layered etc. I know I was nervous as did not want to ruin it and that could happen if not very careful and do it from the underneath side first at the underside, guess you would say of wig. Never at the top of the hair to thin it out. But hairdresser should be able to do this and make it look truer for each face style.

I wanted to thank you SO MUCH Jill for sharing your journey via all your wonderful and VERY informative videos. I am 62, never had much hair to begin with (super fine, high porosity) and now it's healthy because I don't wash it as often and use non-sulfated shampoo, protein and deep conditioner. But since I let it go longer between washings and it's not as poufy, I realized that it is thinning out :(. So I am new to wigs also and have purchased 3 good wigs and a hair topper after listening to your advice about not wearing 1 wig to death. Who knew that they were so delicate and finicky and required rotation and infrequent washing for example? Thank GOODNESS for great wigs and helpful people like you. Much Love from New Mexico USA

Thank you for this subject ...all true....missed you during your move! It took me about 10 wigs but so far I think I found “the one” I just ordered another one same color too. RW Goddess in shaded wheat. Just the name alone I wanted it. So many compliments ...also RW maximum impact too..have 2. When I first started watching you this year I didn’t understand the wig process at all but now I know what you mean when you say “ the kinda expensive ones”. Lol

Everything you said is so true. My journey with wigs/hair topper is about 2 yrs. I watched a lot of video clips about wigs at the beginning, excited to explore them and disappointed, and tried again. It seems to be simple but once I got into the wigs world I realized there are products that I need to use to keep the wigs last longer and products I want to try using to make them appear as real hair as possible. Some days the wigs look so natural and some other days they look kinda wiggy. There are surely up and down moments. My wig wardrobe right now contains 2 wigs and 1 topper. And I am glad I was able to control my urge to buy more and more at the beginning with the thought that the next one will be perfect 😊 Good thing is the more I wear a certain wig the better it looks on me. I cannot say it is convenient as real hair since there are always fears that a strong wind may blow it away, or something accidentally happens making the wig pulled away... however, the wigs and topper have been helping me more confident with my look. All and all, I am happy that I have an option to better present myself, people can no longer see my scalp, I look better and younger in pictures. Like you mentioned it can be hot in the head wearing a wig all day. Some days I just wished that I had a decent amount of hair, but reality is I don't, so I'm still grateful for wigs/topper 😘

Ok, gotta comment again! Jill, you ROCK! Can I just say, you brought tears to my eyes this time! Thank you for putting into words what I’ve been feeling and slowly realizing about this new phase of my life! It just is what it is, and I have finally (I hope) made peace with the wig ups and downs. I’ve been forced, I feel, to buy an inexpensive piece here and there for the sole purpose of cannibalizing it to brighten up a too-dark wig that I otherwise love. I have finally realized that making a topper out of a full wig is much more flattering for me than just purchasing an all-one-length topper, even if it does have a bang or a lace front. I need layers because that is what looks most natural on me. We have to discover thru trial and expensive error what works and what doesn’t for us. Changing the subject, you look so beautiful with the dark brows and dark eyes! Seriously pretty in this video, my friend. Thank you for doing your videos. I learn so much from you! Take care ❤️

Great video! Thank you for your straight forward information. Granted, we all tend to learn a lot of things along our wig journeys. All but one of my wigs are synthetic. I tried the human hair route and I can say I don’t care for them. They are way to much work. At least to say, the one I bought took a lot of time to curl with heat tools and then the style fell within an hour. Not impressed. I also realized that I never had that kind of and that much Hair to begin with. So, I never realized how much effort would have to go into the whole styling aspect of a human hair wig. I really like being able to purchase a style that I believe I will like, and as you said, make it my own. Because I usually wear a lot of shorter pixie cuts, most are truly shake and go. But, I do dress them up with headbands and colorful clips when I feel like it. I like what you said about the wispies. They can be annoying. But, then again, real hair has that effect, too. At least my bio hair was always like that! Ha ha! Thanks again for all of your wisdom!

Thanks so much Jill for all the info. I’m in the process of getting my second wig. My first one was “okay” and seemed to work till I would catch a glimpse of myself and I’d think how much it looked like a wig. So I’ve worn it off and on for the past 7 years. My hair is still thinning and I’ve decided to wear one every day now. Can’t deal with this thin hair any longer! When I try on wigs they all seem like too much hair and look ridiculous though. I was really glad you talked about finding “the one” and I agree that it doesn’t exist. I’m hoping the one I have ordered now will work for me though. Anything is better than thinning hair that can’t be fixed no matter how hard you try. Thanks so much for your encouraging videos.

I agree 100% with the ability to always have pretty - non-effective by the weather - HAIR... I had “good hair”. It just was just hard to work with and look how I wanted it to look and took too much time and money to get it to look right ! I got older and said I no longer want to spend all my time and money on my hair . I have other things to do ... wigs were the perfect answer for me . But I don’t change often ... so most people don’t really know and ask me who “does” my hair ...and for me ... that is perfect ! I have worn one for 15 years . Thanks for the reviews and the honest talk and I understand all of the things you are sharing ! It is worth the work .

I am in love and it is comfortable and sometimes , yes, I do forget it’s their. If a wig is a hat then when you put on makeup every day, your basically putting on a mask. Idk different strokes for different folks. I have heard of people who sleep in their wig and I cannot do that one 😂😂😂

I just wanted to mention that as a subscriber and I watch your videos all the time and love them, but I think that when you should have a black background you have a gray background and when you should have a light background you have a black background. I noticed that in some of your videos. With this dark wig you would benefit much more from having a light background. I watched a video recently about a very blonde color you chose in this type of length style and then you had a very light gray shirt on and a very light gray background and you even mentioned it and it totally washed the whole video out. I feel like you should have a light background here because you can’t really see the wig you are wearing at all! The same goes for clothing. If you have a blonde wig, I think dark or bright colors look really good and if you have a dark wig on, then I think a light color looks really good. I think this color is too dark for your skin. You look so stunning in your Drew in whatever color you have that in and you look really good editors pick, flirt alert, ignite and you look great in that cool palm springs blonde. That Drew really suits your face really well! You just look much better in blonde hair and longer with some movement. No hate here, honestly. You’re giving advice so I thought I would give you some advice. I want to get Reese and I’ve decided now based on this video that I’m going to get her in blonde. I almost got her in chocolate frost but I just got a wig that turned out to be ash brown with some blonde highlights and it looks horrible on me. I feel like you and I have very similar skin tone and very similar eyes, so I love watching your videos. I don’t mean to hurt your feelings at all, I just thought you might want to know about the backgrounds and then it led me to the hair color....I hope I haven’t overstepped because I really am just trying to help you out!

There are wig makers (e.g. for orthodox women) who custom make remy hair wigletts, toppers and wigs that are perfect. Price $2,500 topper. Harder to find are hair stylists who will work with wigs, either style, cut or color it.

But do they feel any better on your head than the average wig we buy at online wig shops? I'm all about comfort. Also for that price I'd expect to be able to wear it for a couple years and it still look good. Is that a reasonable assumption?

Tx Jill wow what a great video. I related from start to finish. It was especially poignant when you were talking about 'going with it' if the wig is not all you thought it would be. I bought HM Hayden and was so excited and hyped until I tried her on. Oh my days, what a let down. Stunning piece, but too much hair for my small features. Am now trying to sell her on which is not as easy to do here in South Africa as it is by you. I love the way you shoot from the hip imparting vital information for those of us newbies. xx

Hello there, Sandy! I am so glad you found this helpful. There are those wigs that simply will not, and do not work and need returning (or selling). I really hate when that happens. Have you tried thinning Hayden?? Watch some videos (wigs by patties pearls has a good one)... If you find it difficult to sell...and, you do try thinning, and you mess up (I ruined a wig trying to do it Ha!) well, at least you gained some experience. I know...these wigs are expensive, but on the other end....it may turn out great, and you will be wearing it! The other thing you can do is try and put something 'in' Hayden....like a cute headband, or clips? I have a couple wigs that I simply have to wear something in them to tame how I feel overwhelmed in all the hair. IT REALLY helps!! Good luck!

@@JillLynnBeautyTherapy Thanks Jill I must admit when you mentioned in your video, to try head bands, accessories, I thought I must give that a try with Hayden. I have given her to a friend of mine to try out as she loves 'big hair' though she does not wear wigs everyday like I do. I'm not holding out she'll buy the wig so if she declines, I will definitely apply your suggestions. Thanks my lovely xx

I don't wear wigs to bed, but I always wear a little terrycloth cap to sleep. Why? My head gets cold! I trimmed my thin hair very short, wear a wig all day and evening, so I guess I'm really used to wigs. I've been doing wigs for 20 years, though. Turbans seem a tad lighter than any wigs, maybe because there's no elastic. Can't wear toppers, tho I started with them. Thus is a GREAT videi, Jill. Thanks!

Awww....thank you, June! The more basic the features, the less you will pay in any brand. Noriko makes great pieces (I am wearing one in this video)...however, I generally wouldn't recommend one for brand new wig wearers, because they have a lot of permatease, and generally no lace fronts etc...To tame that in the one I am wearing ...which is called REESE...I put a cute headband in it. ;) ALSO....check out wigoutlet.com You can find some great prices on wigs that have been returned. They inspect the wigs before reselling them. namebrandwigs, wigsbypattiespearls and wigs.com also have 'sale' or 'clearance' sections as well! Those are all reputable wig online sites that I shop from all the time. I hope this helps!

Does wearing wigs on a daily basis cause your own hair to thin and fall out? I’ve heard that’s true if you wear a hat every day. I don’t know if either is true. Would love to hear your opinion.
