Art. Inspiration. Freedom of expression. Tone. Beauty. Rage. Peace. Sonic landscape. This is simplistically complex. Thanks a lot for sharing your art with the rest of the world.

This is the kind of stuff that keeps me wanting to play more and more! It just sounds amazing and fresh to me. I don't care if they are playing difficult or easy, jazz or rock or punk or whatever. Musicians have to understand that in the moment they are thinking about following any style or being different or innovative they just finished making music. Music is emotion!!!

jazztitch, it's music- you LISTEN to it. That's all. Sverrisson plays music he loves, pretty simple- which would include Holdsworth as well. Imagine the musicians are playing this music because they WANT to play it. No one's trying to "get over", and they're certainly not on a mission to "advance" anything or trying to be "experimental". But your projections give a good insight into what you "listen" for....

@jazztitch -- I would know because it's my band :) They are my friends for over 25 years. Dude, c'mon, I would only respond to a comment if it sounded beyond ignorant. No offense intended, but you are way off base here. I do appreciate any and all dialog about any music though. Best new year!

@jazztitch Are you suggesting Sverisson is playing experimental jazz-post-rock fusion for the cash?

Jim Black does not choose his cymbals. He chooses his duct tape.

@jazztitch Can I live in your alternate reality where this is "jazz-pop"?? Even better, this is "jazz-pop" that commands big money? Sounds good to me! Skuli could have chosen a MUCH more comfortable/lucrative career playing tired 80's-90's fusion, but chose to follow a more personal path with his closest friends and musical partners. A true hero and inspiration.

I loved Neurosis and went to school with sax player Chris Speed but I never saw a connection. Will need to give Locust Star a listen, thanks! Jim Black is clearly playing out of his mind here.

+Andrew Beaton no one else sounds like him. he's incredibly unique and has great feel. If it doesn't do it for you, then that's fine. But know that his improvisational skills are incredible.

+Andrew Beaton No you're not stupid. Seems to be an "OK" drummer. The music however seems to be total shit to me. Very instructive though to listen to all kinds of music. That's the best way to develop a discerning taste.
