So wonderful. I met Gene in Chicago once and he was the NICEST man ever. I was a 21 year old Gate Agent for American Airlines at the time it was my first day on the job. Sooo many angry faces and grumbling from people trying to get on their flight. And Gene had a First Class Ticket I didn’t know how to process in this archaic system AA used at the time. It was that eternally long 60 seconds (I remember this like it was yesterday.) waiting for a supervisor. He just smiled and said “You’re doing a great job.” I’m 50 yrs old sitting in a Starbucks typing this and remembering how kind and peaceful he was in that 3-4 minutes he was stuck with me. In my time on this planet, Gene Siskel was the kindest “stranger” I have ever met. This was in 1995. We would lose him only about 4 years later. I can’t help but feel emotional looking at his kind smile and his intellectual and lovely energy. You see it only takes a minute to be kind. He was such a great man making a young person just out of the military feel human and valued. YOU will always be valued and remembered Mr Siskel. Rest in Power Sir.

‘Ace Ventura’ was literally one of the pinnacle films that was a lining in my childhood. Anywhere I went during that time as a kid, I would quote the hell out of it, and I even did impressions and emulated the character of Ace regularly during that time. I was 9 when it came out, and it’s still one of my favorite comedy films. That and ‘Dumb and Dumber’ 1994 was a good year my dudes.

One of the most incredible scenes I have ever experienced is Jim Carey impersonating Andy Kaufman impersonating Elvis Presley in “Man On The Moon.” I am 68 years old. I watched Kaufman’s stand-up, in Taxi, and on TV interviews. Jim Carey freaking became Andy Kaufman in the movie.

Great Canadian Icon, his crazy physical comedic style brought joy and laughter to billions of people across the world.

From the first time I saw him in a movie, I knew that I was seeing a wildly talented actor. However, I haven’t liked/loved all of his films, but there’s no denying that he is insanely versatile and creative, and he isn’t limited to film. I am a huge fan of his artwork as well. I love the style, vibrancy, colors, composition, statements he makes, and the sheer fearlessness that he communicates with a brush brush, and I find it deeply impactful and satisfying. I wish I could afford to own some of his work, but that’s just never going to happen. He is clearly a very intelligent man, and I always enjoy hearing him in his interviews because he has such a unique perspective on whatever he is discussing. I sincerely wish him joy and happiness because he really deserves it.

He's brought so much laughter and joy to the world, and I was alive to have experienced his greats in the cinema when they first came out, I feel so honoured

I really didn’t care much for the first movie I saw of Jim Carrey’s. But I later changed my mind as well. Incredible energy and amazing depth as an actor. And his work his characters on the Wayans Brothers was awesome!

I love the way Jim Carrey conducts himself. Behind the manic comedy and unorthodox success is a giving human being. He puts himself out there genuinely and we all get to enjoy what he does, whether he gets the accolades or not.

The most intense laughter erupted within moments of the opening credits and scenes…it was spontaneous…the whole theatre roared…talk about setting the table..what a comedic masterpiece..one liners everywhere…slapstick and physical manipulation at its peak..etx

Sister & Ebert were the only critics I ever watched regularly. Not because I was depending on either of them to decide what movies I watched. I love listening to them talk about a medium they loved. This is a great story to hear from "Ace".

Glad they recanted their statements about Jim, he's such a dynamic actor and has amazing range. Happy they said it publicly as well and did an entire show about just him.

What I really like about Ebert and Siskel (especially Ebert) is that they were fair to all movies. Regardless of genre. Unlike snobby critics who automatically disown entire genres or just immediately dismiss movies that aren't artsy or Oscar baity, both those guys understood that there are different movies for different people and even if they didn't personally like a movie they still could see who that movie would appeal to and respect that. They also were willing to admit that they looked at movies the wrong way later on and reevaluate them because peoples views change. Wish more critics were like them.

They said thumbs down to dumb and dumber and if they could see what comedies have become, which is extinct, they would realize that DUMB and Dumber is the Citizen Kane of comedies.

With exceptions, Ebert and Siskel weren't big fans of grossout comedies (me too, tbh), so it's no surprise they didn't like Ace Ventura, the film that made Carrey a star. But they loved The Truman Show, especially Gene. It came out when he was in the hospital for his brain cancer. For that week's ep, Ebert was in the studio, and Gene called in to say how much he loved the movie and how happy it had made him.

To this day my coworkers and I quote Ace and liar liar almost daily. Can't imagine my life without Jim Carey.

Siskel and Ebert were easily the best film critics. Unlike other famous critics who deliberately tried to overshadow the films they reviewed (like Pauline Kael), Siskel and Ebert showed genuine class, intelligence, a true love of cinema, a non-judgmental approach to criticism, and like Jim Carrey said, an ability to humbly admit when they were wrong. Both critics did revise their old opinions of films when they realized a film had grown on them. They accepted certain films need repeat viewing to appreciate

I had a lot of respect for Siskel and Ebert because they were honest. Even some of the biggest hits like Home Alone were panned by them but at least you knew it was their honest opinion. They couldn’t be bought and gave legit reviews on the movies. I didn’t always agree with them but I respected that it really was their honest take

The movie where he loses his memory was truly an acting movie. The scene where he watches a movie and he remembers who he was is such an acting prowess.

Ace Ventura Pet Detective was the funniest movie I ever saw in theaters. We laughed so hard we missed half the jokes and paid to watch it a second time in one night. Laugh out loud funny, and I remember being sore for two days.

There are very few actors that I can enjoy watching 90% or more of their material and Jim Carrey just so happens to be one of these actors that I can watch at least 90%+ still.
