To be fair, as someone who spent ten years serving adult living with all kinds of mental illness, some of what he describes sounds mildly manic, but not to a degree that seems problematic. This looks like self-supportive art therapy. What I feel concern about, as a degreed artist and art teacher with training in material safety, is that he might not know enough about safely enjoying his art. Jim describing using paintings as tables to eat off of is NOT a good idea. I cant tell if he has adequate air flow in these spaces, and in several scenes he has splatters of paint on his face, hands or arms. Even with acrylic paint, that's not a great idea, especially if you're doing this every day. I hope he knows not to eat, drink or smoke until he has thoroughly scrubbed up.

To 'win' in a conservative society, creative people have to suffer. Problem is, societies built on unbridled creativity don't last long. You have to minimise the suffering while contributing your creativity to society. People think creatives are insane because they're doing things that appear to be insane to a non-creative. We non-creative people just don't get you guys, you're seeing things we don't, making connections between things that simply don't connect for us. When someone has found peace people claim they're crazy

Steak, that's because they're no longer chasing the dollar and if you're not chasing the dollar in western culture, you're wasting your life. I live on the border of a very affluent city with a lot of elder residents. I was telling a male friend how you can find really interesting tools, often antiques at garage sales in this community. My companion started talking about how to tell fake from real gold jewelry. I replied at least 3 times that I wasn't interested in jewelry; that I like tools because I'm a maker and he said, "If you're not looking for something with monetary value that you can pawn, you're wasting your time." My friend's a nice guy, but if it don't have a dollar sign on it, he's outta there.

I identify so much with "my room was heaven to me"! My room was the only place no one hit me. Lockdown may be hard on others and I'm sorry for that, but for the first time in my life it's finally okay for me to self isolate without stigma.
@Thulgore3 жыл бұрын
I'm 43...........I didn't get to enjoy lockdown. (for some fucking reason being a janitor in a school was considered "essential") I was so happy when I thought I would be. Interestingly, those first few weeks made me love humanity more. (not for myself) I actually saw almost no vehicle traffic. I actually witnessed fathers walk along the creek with their kids. (that is 2 minutes walk from my shitty white trash apartment) I heard fathers tell stories to their kids on that walk. Dogs have never been walked more. I actually also witnessed long term married couples also walking together. (one couple has continued that tradition) (I live in montana........low population per capita) The ONLY thing that changed for me was that I was asked to wear a mask. Interestingly I never get sick and to my knowledge, have never had the flu. For the first time I found a year where the people around me never caught something either. (I've always wondered if I might be some form of a "typhoid Mary".....I don't know) While others were locked down, I was still cleaning the disgusting shit (literally) that I was before. (though less due to no students) I was exposed to even more chemicals as well. Part of the job I suppose. I mourn that initial feeling though. I will never take part in it. It was nice to see people and families actually being humane locally. I don't think I've ever witnessed it with mine own eyes. It spiked right back into hatred in less than a month............fucking humans. How much time you spend looking at yourselves and not seeing anything. I'm human too, much to my chagrin. (not really....but sort of)

My favorite Jim Carrey roles are the ones where he's being true. Not so much of the rubber-faced foolishness, but portraying a whole person with all the shiny bits and flaws. The Majestic. Truman. Eternal Sunshine. Man in the Moon. Seeing him create these pieces, watching him make something uniquely his own where he doesn't have to worry making the world happy, that's the juice.

Seeing this really felt so inspiring because of how I've fallen out of art over the past year and it's motivating me to try to do something I love again. Bless Jim Carrey. Sometimes I'll see things about him in the news that he went crazy, but I just see someone who's handling their inner demons in a healthy and constructive manner. I can't imagine what he's been through in life and how other comedians, like Robin Williams, weren't able to escape what was inside them. Jim has spent his life giving so much joy and laughter, he deserves to find peace in whatever healthy way he chooses. Other people don't have to get it, they just have to respect it.

@tincho by using quotes "like this". Miss quoting is common, I read this comment and did not agree with it, and was surprise that jim said that, after watching the video, turns out he didn't. I think J K took the liberty to rephrase the quote, but it changed the meaning in the process.

@tincho Jim saying he love being alive, and the art is an evidence of that: in this case, the art is an evidence of his love for life. What JK said was art is an evidence for life it self. Not even close, art is no evidence for life why would not art exist in death ? anyway not the same meaning.

Man, Jim is truly someone who tapped into his potential, and he tried to signal to everyone what matters more in life, the connection between us all down to the very matter, and how the outside world is a reflection of our inner worlds. I believe people who blindly dismiss concepts they don't understand are the stupid ones, but hey. Anyway, where is the study on how "normal" most artists feel? I'd like to see that.
