Pretty much. The Osprey/Richochet match was "huh?" for me. It reminded me of my niece's gymnastics class or a martial art's form competition. Watch a reaction video of the match as watched by non-wrestling fans. Appreciated the athleticism but fake/staged because they were too obvious in working together.

If he was he'd of lost his ever loving mind and had a complete breakdown when his readers didn't vote TK booker of the year these last awards. Dave knows that his opinion on what wrestling is and should be has an outsized influence on Tony Kahn and the people that will watch AEW no matter what they put on the screen.

He takes other things into account as well, not just crowd reactions. Some of his opinions are ridiculous, I'm not denying that. There's no way Bret vs Piper is worse than MJF vs Hechechero. That's such freaking BS. Same with his 4.75 star ratings: he gave that rating to Rhea vs Charlotte and Cody vs Roman. Both of those deserve 5 stars imo, and giving them just shy of 5 makes it seem so insulting. It's almost like he's mocking the efforts of the wrestlers, but he's too humorless to do that, I'm pretty sure he's being genuine.

Even later in his career in TNA ,his Lockdown match with Joe was amazing and still holds up But they didn't slap their thighs enough I guess (or escort his kids to their prom/teach them gymnastics..who knows). They actually tried to make it appear competitive and wrestled w/o asking the other to hold their foot.

Dave is also a tape trader. Those are compilation tapes that don't highlight the stories of the matches. They just show match after match. Dave is about moves because that's what you get from compilation tapes. Great matches without context or story. I would think this is why he rates matches the way he does, where it's more about the moves and sequences than telling a story in the ring. Jim never tape traded Japanese stuff, only old territory stuff where he knew the stories behind it without needing an explanation. I hope that makes sense. Dave and Jim watched wrestling in different ways and each learned to like different things about wrestling. Also, Jim doesn't score matches, so there is no opportunity to call him for being hypocritical on scores. He criticizes Dave's scores but won't score himself. It's pretty safe to refuse to participate while also critiquing.

TNA worked with ROH, AAA, and NJPW for years and every year for years has a best in the world tournament called the world X cup with teams in TNA of American wrestlers representing America and Canadian TNA wrestlers representing Canada while having wrestlers from triple A come up and represent Mexico and wrestlers from new Japan come over and represent Japan and they let Mexico and Japan win a few times to showcase they weren’t biased and this really was about the best wrestlers on the planet.
