That's because everyone does it. Only WWE/Vince gets demonized for it, though. That's because you cringed pro wrestling fanboys can't get over the fact that Vince/WWE is successful despite your dislike of it/him. Unsuccessful people will always hate on people with more success, and always have a boatload of excuses for why they've never achieved similar success. It's much easier to do that than look inward at your own faults.

Ah, "a LONG time ago"... So, when exactly and for what specifically? Dates and events, please! And he's "been compromised from Day One", you say? Him texting and distracting people in their work during a live broadcast with this unsolicited and superfluous nonsense in 2023, is "proof" that he was "compromised" in 1971, when he first started publishing news and opinions about pro wrestling? How so? Explain that, please! The only thing that's more ridiculous than Dave's descent into stupidity and for whatever reason thinking that TV professionals who regularly work on live broadcasts need him to tell them through their boss that the satellite signal has gone out, are the ignorant commenters who jump on the bashing bandwagon, without any understanding of who and what he used to be, especially in the pre-internet era and _especially_ especially in the age of social media. Anybody who claims that he's "just a fan like everybody else" or "never had any credibility to begin with" is just showing their ignorance, lack of knowledge, and cluelessness. Just because Dave has become a self-parody that even his longtime friends don't understand anymore, doesn't mean he was one for the four decades before that self-inflicted snowballing downward slide started. Goddammit, how many times have I said I wouldn't defend the guy anymore and stupid motherf%&kers make me do it again...

In a way a lot of AEW is like an endless succession of Eric Bischoff's "Sid's scissors" moments. Smart mark and insider "wink-wink" nonsense that's completely inaccessible and incomprehensible for casual viewers - and even for people who are fans, but simply don't want to follow and keep track of _everything_ that happens in and around a promotion, 24/7/365. Some people don't like to do mandatory preparatory homework all week just to understand what's happening on a silly wrestling show on Wednesday night. Imagine that! They had MJF allude to - and even quote verbatim - things that happened and were said in NXT years ago, when he ripped into Adam Cole, not that long ago. How the hell is a casual viewer supposed to understand that and react to it? Years-old references to a different show of a different company on a different network... What are they supposed do with this? It's "exclusive" in the worst way possible. It turns away people who could get pulled into "the product" and stay around. It's like the most passive-aggressive way of letting somebody know that they're not part of the "cool kids" in-group and should p!ss off. And that's how your show firmly stays under one million viewers for five months now - and generally dead in the water with no significant growth of your audience since the debut episode in 2019, Tony! The debut is still the most-watched episode in AEW's history. 1,409,000 viewers. They're regularly struggling for two thirds of that, this year.

It's like when Punk blew up at the press scrum. Never mentioned on air why Punk dropped the title and disappeared for month's - they didn't even mention an injury. And even if you heard about it and listened to what he said, you then had to go down a rabbit hole of internet articles, backstage gossip, snide references, wrestlers real names, receipts, legal action, podcasts, friend groups, etc just to understand the basics of what the hell he was ranting about. Whole thing was stupid, it was overblown & even understood only amongst a very specific circle, most of whom are either in the AEW Lockerroom, are press who also happen to be friends with / print gossip directly from part of the AEW Lockerroom as their bread & butter "reporting", or have been religiously part of or following the "Internet Wrestling Community" for 10+ years. And it's an even smaller fraction of that group who are now booing Punk when he appears on TV / PPV. Now try and explain to someone who casually follows Wrestling & knows Punk from when he worked in WWE why he gets a mixed reaction from AEW fans & watch them slowly back away and reconsider whether they want to continue being seen as a wrestling fan going forward when you're not even halfway through explaining it to them.

@@M-E_123 People who are involved in the internet wrestling community would be shocked to learn what most people who watch wrestling actually like and know about the product. I agree with everything except how Jim kept saying “the girl’s match”. So if this was an MJF match or a Punk match, and everything else was the same, would Jim have still said they had “other things on their mind and they would have gotten to it eventually”? Or would he have been eviscerating the production crew for not immediately bringing the viewing audience up to date? Because it sounds like he’s saying it wasn’t a big deal since it was a girl’s match. That’s his opinion, but the majority of the people who watch AEW live don’t think of it that way.
