It’s all How many moves and spots you can do done by nerdy charisma vacuums Wrestlers was treated as equal to actual professional sports stars Austin stood across the ring from mike fucking Tyson and didn’t look out of place and looked his equal Stick one the bucks or omega opposite Conor mcgregor and you’d laugh and say that’s a mis match People wanted to be ric flair hogan piper sting Austin rock Jericho Who wants to be one of the bucks omega Cassidy havoc janela??

phillip martin The thing is, at least to casual fans, the actual in ring wrestling doesn’t matter. Hogan had four moves and he’s the biggest draw ever. Wrestling is about exciting personalities, gimmicks, and cutting promos, the match itself might actually be the least important part.

@phillip martin Yet look who stands now. Is it Mid South? Is it WCW? Na, it's the *shitty* company, who knew that people want larger than life characters, storytelling and drama. We don't want a wReStLiNg match to look real by 400 moves, we already have legitimate combat sports like boxing and MMA. The day when wrestling traded its pomp and circumstances for pretending to be shoot fights, wrestling died.

No. Neither did one legged guy in the early 2000's. Yet people cheered for them. He said Havoc has no physique, neither did Funk or Foley. Who did "hardcore stupid shit" also. As much as I'd really like to see AEW succeed for the sake of pro-wrestling and as a wrestling fan, I agree with a lot of things Jim says here. Wrestling is dead, and I say that even as someone who sometimes watches and appreciates NJPW's attempts to try and protect some of the mystique around their stars and business. Yes, death of kayfabe is a big part of what's missing now, but more than anything, decent storytelling and emotional engagement has also rotted away too. I don't need an elaborate lie to follow a TV show, enjoy a movie or watch a sporting event. I just need a good story that gives me a reason to care about the outcome. Almost no one in wrestling, company or individual, does that anymore. Especially when so many of them spend their time on Twitter proving how dumb they come across both personally AND professionally. I wish AEW good luck, but the more I see, the less optimistic I feel about their longer term future.

Cornette's probably remembering what WWE did to Doug Bashem, who was working in OVW at the time, when they had him shave his hair off to see what he looked like bald. Cornette was pissed because Bashem was his top heel in OVW, and Bashem's long blond hair was part of his gimmick.

That's the fundamental misunderstanding Cornette has of this situation IMHO. By all available evidence, this seems to be the sort of wrestling Khan likes and the type of promotion he wanted to build. He wasn't sold a bill of goods, but rather bought exactly what he wanted.

You don't make serious money with a niche product. You have to have wide appeal. That's why ECW didn't last a decade and never competed with WCW and WWF. If they had gained a wider audience in the first 6 years or so, they would have been financially able to compete or at least survive. They had tv and magazine coverage, and still failed. I don’t like video games & prefer wrestling to be presented seriously. That said, a few facts: - Video games is a far bigger business than professional wrestling. - There are far more video game fans than there are wrestling fans. - Vince is currently shitting himself because he can’t get anyone to draw 18-34 year old males. - The Attitude Era was primarily 18-34 year old males in the audience. - The Attitude Era, which Cornette hated, was shit hot & did monster business. Here are opinions: -There are more women at AEW shows than WWE shows. -AEW has not started TV yet and Jim is already convinced they are finished - that’s ridiculous. -AEW could put on 1979-1986 NWA/AWA shows and (a) Cornette would still hate it because of the involvement of Kenny and the Bucks, and (b) AEW would be out of business in a year. This is 2019. -There are legitimate criticisms to be made of AEW’s first two shows, but they are literally their *first two shows.* But if Jim was to come on and say that everyone needed to calm down about the bad stuff because it may not be long term, and the elite are humans so of course will make mistakes by coming up with bad gimmicks etc, and Jim isn’t cutting promos on how terrible Kenny is for exposing the business, then nobody would listen to Cornette’s podcast... in which he exposes the business.

Okay a few things. First off fyter fest was literally a glorified house show for a gaming convention omega is big on. Something similar to this would be the Jericho cruise. It’s not a ppv or indicative to what they will be doing weekly on tnt. No matter what the bucks or omega do, Jim will take issue to it. They could go back to the rest holds on the 80’s and he would still find an issue with it. The pre show is the only fair argument that can be made. But there’s still a group of wrestling fans that like comedy wrestling. Even I laughed when orange Cassidy came out at double or nothing. As for the demographics. The male demographic at 20-34 is what they should be chasing. It’s literally the exact same demographic the ufc gets. Which Jim claims does better wrestling then the wwe right now. Now will older people watch it, of course. My father and uncles are very old school guys and watched it most of their lives up until about 8 years ago. They loved double or nothing, especially the young bucks match. The age of oversized steroid body builders are done. Even the wwe has trouble getting those types over. Their two biggest male stars are both more of a new Japan style wrestler.

I agree with pretty much everything you said. I love Jim, I think he has one of the best wrestling minds the business has ever seen. With that being said, he still allows his personal grievances with certain wrestlers to diminish an entire show and company. Was the battle royal during the buy-in for DON a joke? Absolutely, but there were still a few moments I liked. Was the battle royal the only shitty match on the card? No, there were a few more, but that's literally like 10% of the show. I thought Fyter Fest, in the whole, was a damn good show while still having a few weak points...but that could be said about any show anywhere. Sometimes Jim makes me want to rip my hair out with his personal vendetta's clouding his judgment. He talked about someone at DON looking like shit but then in the same breath said Jericho looked great... really? Still love Jim, he's great and will always be staple in the wrestling business no matter what. But I really think AEW is going to be better than what he's giving it credit for.

@@blutheelf2430 the only complaints I can state is the pre shows so far. I think it's fair to say they shouldn't do dumb matches because they turn people off of the main card. Double or nothings main card was great. Last 3 matches killed it and you also had a few other matches that were awesome. Fyter fest main card was decent ad well. People cant separate a ppv from a house show. I'm sorry, but I dount we see moxley in death matches on TNT weekly. The people who ordered double or nothing are the same people who ordered ufc ppvs. They're going to a attack of people who are more sport orientant. Jim's problem is being stuck in his ways.
