My biggest issue and my new biggest disconnect on these new “wrestling” fans: “They’re actors. We know it’s not real. They are not their characters. It’s not 1 for 1, don’t call them names based on their character” But then…. “Suspend him for what he said”.

My biggest issue and disconnect with old wrestling fans. (I’m going to be slightly uncharitable and over simplify here because you did the same but the overall point should be clear) “It’s ok to say these bad things. It’s just a way to get heat and make people hate you because you’re a heel.” “Oh my god, did you see what that guy said? It was so funny. Look at how these soft snowflakes can’t handle it. This is the best thing ever and I love them now.” Anyone mad at me right now, try to be honest with yourself. When you heard Max say that, was you first response to smile and cheer or boo? I bet for a good portion of you it was the former. Basically, If I though we lived in a society where a majority would actually get mad at people for saying controversial things I’d be all for it. I know many won’t believe me when I say that but it’s the truth. The problem I have is that I often see it being irresponsibly glorified and celebrated instead so it’s best to leave those serious topic to serious settings where they can be challenged properly

The Duke Lacrosse case was dropped after it was determined the players didn’t do any crime. The victim was lying. I’m from N.C. It was a huge story there. No shit it's basic, it's a gimmick that he (I presumed depends on how frequent he wrestles) had to write and modify every week for a wide roster of people. What would coming up with a complicated rhyme scheme every week do for him that he wouldn't be able to achieve with a basic AB AB? He's a wrestler for goodness sake, not J.I.D or Joey Bada$$ 🤣 That's like complaining that Kane's not an actual pyromancer, you've fundamentally missed the point of his gimmick.

The problem is with the death of kayfabe, you can't blame this kind of stuff on the heel being a jerk and it just becomes tasteless television (or in this case online content) That said, as Jim has pointed out repeatedly, even in the old days, the wrestlers and promoters generally knew what they could push the envelope on and what lines they shouldn't cross. The questionable comments here weren't going to draw any (wrestling) heat or money, they were just going to bring negative PR down on AEW. There was no upside. If they're going to take the risk of being edgy, they should at least do it in a way that might conceivably help the bottom line.

@@fatalsniper3413 that wasn’t what he was joking okay about. I didn’t even know that part of the story until later. I mean, that was years ago and she had been shining at every World’s and the last Olympics. I only learned about it this from Brian Last and then still looked it up to make sure he didn’t have his stories mixed up because tons of gymnasts came forward and especially during the penalty phase. Then I saw that she said something about that. But it looked like people put a lot of pressure on her to be the biggest gymnast in the world, which she is, and the face of the team and it gave her the yips or the twisties. She lost confidence in herself. It happens to many people. Especially on big stages. If he meant that by Simone Biles, then shame on him. If he just meant he would have them claim mental health like she did at the Olympics, no big deal. I don’t think he meant that he was going to sexually assault all of them and then they would have to claim mental health. Why? Because that makes him a monster and it’s noting anyone out of Biggie and early Eminem would even think about saying.

For once I'd like to see a wrestling owner stand up for their talent instead of said talent getting thrown under the bus. For as much as everyone hates Vince (and I most certainly do), Billy Corgan and Tony Khan can do much better as owners themselves. Tony, in particular, needs to chill out and not burn up all the good will his product has produced in a relatively short period of time.
@SupraViperhead
@SupraViperhead 3 жыл бұрын
Promoters back in the day would throw their talent under the bus CONSTANTLY, but that was back when wrestling was seen as more legit and a promoter could get away with blaming the heel. Tony had the RESEMBLANCE of the right idea when he said that he didn't know what Caster was going to say, but then he ruined it by saying that he usually goes over his raps with him. He had the resemblance the right idea by "suspending" him, but it should have been a WORKED suspension, not a SHOOT suspension. To get REAL heat in today's world, you have to make people actually think that you're a piece of crap. That's something that is actually incredibly easy to do, but then you have fans opting not to support the company that employs you as opposed to wanting to see a babyface beat you. That's why wrestling isn't as great as it used to be.

In my opinion and yours he shouldn’t be fired, but who knows what someone who decided the product has experienced and how they may have taken the lines. AEW isn’t one of these small internet indy shows that can just excuse things and get away with it, they are on national tv and are held to standards that other companies are. This needs to be a learning experience (not firing), but a chance to grow and learn from the situation. It could have been worse, all TNT or any network needs is one reason to not wanting to associate themselves with a company and there goes tv deal renewals etc.

They ran a local show in my hometown. There was 2 black people (me and a young girl sitting up front ) when a HEEL in the ring said "White Lives Matter" 😹 I thought the shit was funny, and he was a HEEL like I said. Everyone got so upset they stopped the match and asked him to leave. Then they were apologizing to us and neither of us could give a shiT. Pitiful.

Hopefully Caster gets out of the doghouse soon, I actually enjoy his nerdy rapper gimmick. I don’t really have an opinion on the content of what he said because I didn’t understand it until Twitter was throwing a tantrum asking him to be suspended or fired for what he said. Duke Lacrosse team proven not guilty didn’t see the problem, Simone Biles mental health thing? Didn’t really see the problem with it since it was a hot topic in the media to reference at the time. Most of Caster’s lines paint him as either Democratic or Liberal so I don’t think there’s a political agenda where he doesn’t advocate for mental health or anything like that. It’s a stupid rap from a corny rapper gimmick on a KZfaq show. It really doesn’t seem that serious on the surface.

Not taking a side on whether the line is offensive, but I can clarify why some people would consider the Duke lacrosse line offensive. Even if the crime never happened, it is still a reference to rape, so any threat to treat someone that way is clearly a rape threat. Many consider any rape threat (joking or otherwise) is considered unacceptable by many people. I seem to be the only one pissed me off at the line about PCR tests being fake. It's actually bullshit that could potentially cost a life and not just hurt feelings.
