Well, a lot of it is because he has openly expressed his Trump Derangement Syndrome for quite a few years now. Plus, he has also expressed his love for anything that the tyrannical US government does at the same time. And it's all just emotional bullshit from him when it comes to political things. So, of course, that's going to divide people into 2 main groups: 1. Those who think for themselves logically and don't have an emotional attachment to any side. Those people don't consider themselves to be on any team, except for Team Truth. 2. Those also have TDS, who also love falling for all of the tyrannical propaganda and tyrannical actions that the government perpetrates, and that the media promotes wholeheartedly, even though it's always total lies that aren't even remotely close to the truth. People on this side have no ability to think logically, meaning with the total absence of all emotions, good and bad. These people don't have a grip on reality. They only side with their own team, even though those in power, who they think are on their side, are actually completely against them, and are using them to gain more and more totalitarian power. These people are the "useful idiots", who don't understand the evil that is JUST beyond the surface level of all the issues. They refuse to simply look objectively beyond the surface level on any issue. They haven't learned enough to understand that the government is always supposed to be completely held in check, simply by debate, questioning, and the forcing of transparency. They don't understand that no side of the government is any citizen's friend. These people are for the censorship of people they don't like too. And if that doesn't demonstrate to you how stupid emotions make you think, and how blind they make you, even to serious damage that you're going to cause yourself because of your stupid thoughts, then you are on this team and you probably need to stay out of politics because you're hurting the US and you're too emotional and stupid to see it. You are seriously backing and believing all of the obvious propaganda that people who only care about logic, the truth, and the American way can obviously see right through. This is the biggest reason Cornette is so divisive.

Bret Hart said in a shoot interview if you aren't good at something don't do it, if you're not good at punching, then don't do it and he said it with a smile. I think he really wanted to criticize this era's wrestlers for doing moves they were not properly trained to do. Hearing Bret give an honest rant about today's wrestling would be spectacular.

@@kenrickeason i don't know what era of wrestling you mean by "back then" but i'm talking about territory wrestling from the 80's, you might have the occasional punch that doesn't look good but proper striking, bumping, selling, spontaneous promos, ring psychology either don't exist today or are terrible the punching is so bad that it's addressed on podcasts on a weekly basis and i still haven't seen a botch video from the territory days but then again they weren't trying to do complicated, pretentious nonsense in the ring

Wrestlers have been throwing forearms since like the 60s. For one, as you said, punches are illegal and the ref has to warn the puncher. For another, it's easier to make a forearm hit look better because it's softer than a punch and it can make better contact.

I recently came across a truly shocking retro shoot video. It was uploaded sometime this year but was an older shoot interview with Vince Russo and Sean Oliver. Russo shot on the Young Bucks (he referred to them as Generation Me) and he word for word sounded like Cornette! Yep, it's the end of time folks. 😂. But he said The Dumb Frucks were more concerned about Meltzer's match ratings and going over moves in the ring than the big picture of the show. He said they wouldn't take advice from older wrestlers because they thought they knew everything. He also said Medusa could legit take all of the TNA roster in a shoot fight mentioning those who were desperate for match ratings from Meltzer and coughed "Chris Daniels". 😁. I'll admit, probably the second time I've ever popped for Vinnie Rue with the first being the Bash At The Beach 2000 shoot on Hogan. I don't care if you side with Cornette or Russo, that was hilarious!

Isn't the forearm used in Japan as a closed fist/punch is against the rules of pro wrestling? The referee will make gestures in America as well when someone has a closed fist advising to open it or have I got this completely wrong?!
@Tittymaster
@Tittymaster Жыл бұрын
Yes, Cornette is surprisingly ignorant and oblivious on the origins/mere existence of the "no closed fist punches" rule that goes way back, and not to 2012.. he is right on accident though on the "Japanese influence" he mentions, since that's the only region that still honors that rule on the regular to this day. I recommend "Al Snow on "The Wrestling Punch" ", here on KZfaq.

@@Nediablo Actually, after some comment here mentioned it originating in "catch wrestling ruIes", I did some further digging and found this entry in the Encyclopedia Britannica: "Catch-as-catch-can wrestling, basic wrestling style in which nearly all holds and tactics are permitted in both upright and ground wrestling. *Rules usually forbid only actions that may injure an opponent* , such as strangling, kicking, gouging, and *hitting with a closed fist* . The object is to force the opponent into a position in which both shoulders touch the ground at the same time. Formerly known as the Lancashire style in England, catch-as-catch-can became the most popular form of wrestling in Great Britain and the United States and, with slight modifications, was introduced into Olympic and international competition as freestyle wrestling". So, it did indeed originate from there, and then, as Al Snow stated, staid generally forbidden in pro wrestling (unlike kicking or strangling) as a protected tool among heels and faces to get heat or a "revenge was served" pop.

@@Tittymaster boom! There we go! Explains why Shooto didn't allow it. Although (mainly) shoot fights, they didn't allow closed fists. That's why Bas Ruttens open palm was brutal. And I seem to remember heels when I was a kick would grab a headlock and turn so the ref couldn't see. Then start laying punches in to try and busy someone open. I'm sure it was Flair....

Cornette is talking total nonsense in relation to Russo here. Russo left the actual matches down to the wrestlers and agents to arrange, out of respect for the fact that that was their area of expertise. What's wrong with him doing that? If he WAS arranging matches, Cornette would have had a problem with that too on the basis that Russo had no in-ring experience etc. He needs to grow up and move on from this Russo nonsense. Oh, yes, I forgot. It's part of his schtick, so he won't.

I prefer the forearm to a punch. Not because of the floppy/flippy nonsense, because a punch would cause real physical damage in real life so it makes a punch look fake whilst a forearm is more realistic. I learned this from Mark Sloan in FWA in the UK

Ymmv but imo scripting and pre-taping midcarder promo etc. is actually healthy, good for performers who aren't confident topcarders, and giving depth and context to the longterm storytelling. Agree though that a TV writer has no business critiquing the technicals of wrestling.

I actually think wrestlers throwing shitty forearms and not learning how to throw a punch and it looking phony is the only thing Russo and Cornette would agree on. Side note, if Big Show was still a full time active wrestler, the knockout punch would be more over because he'd be one of maybe 4 or 5 wrestlers that could throw a punch that looked good. Of course Tony Klown would be fine with people kicking out of it so then again, maybe it wouldn't get over lol

Bobby Lashley can make a palm strike look devastating and a punch look like the end of a match, but yes, I've noticed a lot of wrestlers who can throw good to decent punches not doing them anymore. Thematically, in a wrestling match it makes sense for the baby faces to not punch(or kick for that matter), not until they've been punched or have been otherwise instigated, but it's the easiest thing for a heel to do, punch without provocation.

It's well established that Russo knows nothing about actual wrestling. People still use punches but, not very often. Plus don't MMA fighters do elbows to the head? You can do more than hit people with a closed fist that's just gonna get pulled before it lands anyway. They can't throw believable punches without hurting people anymore.
