It wasn't even a wise man, it was King Solomon. The King's proposal was to cut the baby in half so that both women would have the baby. The false mother was okay with that and wanted the king to go through, whereas the true mother became panicked at the King's words and insisted that the other women have the baby. That was how King Solomon determined who the real mother was.

2:02 Just to demonstrate how cleverly layered the writing can be in this show, Michael is conflating the Judgment of Solomon (in which two women claim to be the mother of the same child) with a scene from the film "Gandhi" where a Hindu man confesses to killing a Muslim child and Gandhi tells him to adopt an orphan as penance, but to raise him as a Muslim. So he mashed the two stories together and *_also_* got the religions mixed up.

It’s about king Solomon and his wisdom of how to solve conflicts. But Michael gives it a twist because he can’t remember the whole story.

Braden Vester in the real story (from the Bible) 2 women go to king Solomon and both say they’re the mother of the baby. So the king says “here let’s just cut it in half and both of you can have half” he said this to test them. So the woman who wasn’t the mother says “okay” and the woman who was says “no I love my son but give her the baby so he lives” That’s how he could tell who’s the mother by her wanting the baby to live.
