"I Don't Want to Have to Marry You" is a song written by Fred Imus and Phil Sweet, and recorded by American country music duo Jim Ed Brown and Helen Cornelius.
It was released in July 1976 as the first single and title track from the album I Don't Want to Have to Marry You. It was the most successful single for both Jim Ed Brown and Helen Cornelius as both a duo and as solo artists. The single was the only number one of their careers and stayed at number one for two weeks and spent a total of ten weeks on the country chart.

They had such a great sound, and they came together as a duet at the perfect time, as Dolly and Porter had just split, and George and Tammy had divorced.

@@sonyafox3271 ummmm.... please go back and reread my post and tell me where it is that I suggested that Helen and JE were married, were having an affair or were personally involved in some other way, other than as duet partners. I'm not sure how you deduced that from what I said (I think I was pretty clear), but the point I made was that in the mid-'70s, when Jim Ed and Helen began recording duets.together, the field had opened up for them, given that two of the top duet acts -- George and Tammy and Porter and Dolly -- were in the process of ending their respective professional partnerships (yes, in George and Tammy's case, because they were divorcing, but that is irrelevant to the point I was making). My point was that with both of these top duet teams gone from the airwaves, that left a void which Jim Ed and Helen were able to fill. Perhaps you should try to not ascribe any hidden meanings to what someone posts, other than what they ACTUALLY say.

They weren’t husband and wife, again none of that and, no affair! George and Tammy were the only country music duo back then who were married! Just because, they were a duo that doesn’t mean they were married or had a affair on their spouses! Again don’t assume things you have no knowledge of and, don’t believe or buy into false nasty untrue rumors!

This was the 70s, no, they weren’t scandalized, these 2 people were simply a country music duo that just sang together, they played the part on stage! They weren’t married, nor was their a affair and with none of the others, George and Tammy who were the only ones that done that and, then, were married! It’s not nice to assume what people have no knowledge of, they buy into and, believe false and untrue nasty rumors! If people have to buy into that, their lives must be one nasty hot mess if, they have to put out stuff like that which becomes hurtful and harmful to others and, boy that just makes them one big______🤦🏼‍♀️🙊🤦🏼‍♀️🙊🤦🏼‍♀️🙊🙊🤦🏼‍♀️🙊🤦🏼‍♀️🤦🏼‍♀️🙊🙊🙊
