2 жыл бұрынJim Harbaugh has reportedly informed the University of Michigan that despite interviewing for the Minnesota Vikings job this week, he plans to return to the school for the 2022 season instead of jumping ship to the NFL. Michigan was reportedly quote "elated" to get Harbaugh's decision. The Vikings now shift their focus to Los Angeles Rams’ OC Kevin O'Connell to fulfill their vacant head coach position. Skip Bayless and Shannon Sharpe on Harbaugh’s return to Michigan.

Shannon is right. Harbaugh thought he had the job and they would give him all the power, but that wasn't going to be the case. Skip is also right. He probably asked for total control and was ok with the fact it might not work out, and liked that UM would have to squirm. Now, they'll probably have to give him a ton of money ($9.5m/yr) with a huge buyout ($50+m)? in order to make sure this doesn't happen again.

Shannon is 100% right. Harbaugh thought he had the job in the bag, when in fact this was another interview the Vikings were conducting. THANKFULLY, the Vikes got the STAR they need in the Rams OC Kevin O'Connell! This guy is young, innovative, and knows how to attack defenses with aggressive play calling. Can't wait to see what happens with my team this off season and into next year!

Skip isn't tapped in to the Vikings media. The Vikings never offered Harbaugh a job. According to Courtney Cronin....Jim went in there thinking it was a wrap like Shannon said. Vikings weren't thinking the same and gave him a real interview. He failed to impress enough for the Vikings to veer off of what they were already planning to do. Hire O'Connell, Graham, or Morris. I think if Ryans didn't bow out....he woulda been the head coach of the Vikings.

Skip, I think you are right about the new raise, and gaining back some control. Also, the University has been against NIL and Jim has been pushing for it, because it helps with recruiting, AND it's good for the athletes. Hopefully he got some leverage on the NIL

I never understood why a successful college coach with a cushy position and great recruiting would want to risk it to go to the NFL for a few short years, be fired and have to return to college football again. Learn from coach Meyer, Saban, Spurrier, Kelly and so many others who had a short fling the the NFL only to scurry back to the NCAA where job security is safe and consistent.

If you ask me, the bulk of his success is still based off inheriting a talented and roughly trained 49ers from Mike Singletary. He's yet to show me excellence since then. However I must admit, this 2021 season at MI was solid.

Just shows that team owners/executives' No. 1 priority isn't winning if they don't want Harbaugh. They can't put their egos aside and give Jim what he wants, their top priority is someone they're comfortable working with, qualifications are No. 2. Just like in any work environment. In most cases, bosses hire who they're most comfortable working with, not necessarily who is the most qualified or productive. If you're a manager you know it's true.

I think Shannon is onto something here. Colin Cowherd said something similar... Harbaugh is not collaborative. and all the new coaching hires... these McVay/Shanahan off-shoots are all collaborative, agreeable people. Brian Flores, great coach - but he fired 3 OCs and clashed with the front office. Harbaugh's clashes with Baalke and the 49ers front office are well documented.

I believe Jim wanted both jobs. He wants to coach Michigan and he also wants to coach in a position where he can win a superbowl. Unfortunately, he can only do one of those things. He went into Minnesota to see what situation he can get himself into, didnt like what was or wasn't offered, and decided the best option for himself is to forgo his superbowl aspirations and go back to Michigan. It truly was a win win situation for Jim Harbaugh. Of course the media is going to twist it and make it seem like Jim is going back to Michigan with his tail between his legs, cause that story gets more clicks... considering we just spent a month with daily rumors about Jim Harbaugh and how amazing he is and his for sure going to get a nfl job, the media literally had to backtrack and twist the story to their narrative to make it seem like they're always right.

Jim is going to love Skip for his superbowl PI comment, but Please do not attempt to take way something from Baltimore a decade later because you are trying to build a case for Jim Harbaugh today. Many many players and ex players chimed in on that 4th and goal call a decade ago and most agreed it was a good non-call. Crabtree was the one who engaged the DB, actually ran straight into the DB on purpose and bulldozed Jimmy after five, so Crabtree could have been called for offense PI, but was not. So Why no mention of that? Then he tried to push off.

From what I heard Jim had interest in the Bears and it got out that he might make the jump. He and the Bears had a conversation but realized they were miles apart. Minnesota caught wind of it and decided to call him up. The only job he really wanted was his former team the Bears and once that wasn’t happening he wasn’t too keen on leaving MI anymore. He heard the Vikings out but decided to stay put

Jim was scared of the job because of something called 'expectations'. In Michigan he's already seen as a savior for that team who can do no wrong, but in the NFL its a fresh destination where what you did in college doesn't matter. He would be going from a team of 5 and 4 star players to a team with no real qb and a bunch of aging players.

It seems pretty clear to me that Jim Harbaugh has a ceiling with Pro football. He is good at fundamentals but playcalling, with offense he runs with popular gimmicks in spite of it being wise or not long term and adult players hate him the 49ers couldnt stand him, with college guys its better they are young and have to take the verbal abuse on top of that he cant even be the #1 college coach he struggles against Michigan State every year. He doesnt bring any new ideas to the table there is no mystery how to coach against Harbaugh, also guys wanting to go into free agency will NOT go the San Fran is Jim is the coach.

Harbaugh is a better college coach then he is a pro coach. At Michigan he runs the football program. At Minn. he would be an employee. The AD at Michigan has all of the college sports to worry about. He isn't going to tell Harbaugh who to recruit, he's not going to decide what to pay the recruit's and it's a lot easier to deal with college athletes then it is with pro athletes. Harbaugh has it better at Michigan then he would at any pro team for very similar money. I think it came down to Harbaugh didn't want the hassle of trying to coach a pro team and when it became obvious he was going to be right back at same place he was with San Francisco he tanked the interview.

Shannon obviously doesn't like Jim! Jim is an aquired taste but being a Michigan fan I love the guy, I think he is the best coach in college football or at least top 3 if you want to argue that. I know everyone will blast me for this but name another coach in the top 5 who is consistently successful winning with mostly 3 and 4 star talent! It's alot easier to win with 15 to 20 5 star players than it is with 2 to 3. Georgia had 20 5 stars compared to Michigan's 3. Dabo, nick, day all have huge advantages having that many 5 stars so please don't put their names in the comparison with Jim cause you are delusional if you think those teams would win the way they have for some many years if they had 3 5 star players as opposed to 20.. Thats a fact!! It's much easier to win when you have the endless resources and Jim has never had that! Shannon, you should think about these things before you start blowin your horn!
