We ran a little short on time in last night's episode, but this story Jim Jefferies told us about almost being in a Scorsese film was too good to not share.

It's a compliment when an interviewer doesn't feel the need to talk during an interview. It means he believes the guest doesn't need any help.

Did anybody listen to the recent Nerdist podcast with Jim Jeffries? I seem to remember him telling this anecdote without the pacing sorted out yet, and then he asked Hardwick whether he thought he should tell it on Colbert's show. And here we are.

eduardo estrella because jimmy Fallon's laughs are fake and not sincere. When Stephen laughs he means it. Here he's not laughing at all and showing a bit of a serious demeanour towards Jeffries, which doesn't seem natural.

It wasn't that he didn't laugh cause he kinda smiled at points of the story, it was that Stephen seemed not to care and wasn't engaged as he normally is. I've seen him do it to another awesome guest too weather he's aware of how he's coming off or not.

I'm pretty sure Stephen was laughing, he just didn't want to laugh over Jim so he kept it down. Because Jim is actually funny and can get the audience to laugh on his own, so Stephen doesn't need to act like, essentially, canned laughter to encourage the audience to laugh like he might need to with other guests who aren't as funny.

Yeah that's what I thought. He seemed to not react as much because he was watching really closely. Watch his body language: leaning really far in, following with his eyes, smiling whenever Jefferies said something interesting or funny. Those are telltale signs that someone is engrossed in the story. Whether it's genuine or acting, I can't say. But I could claim that sentence about literally every interview this guy, or any other late night comedy interview show host does. So why not just assume it is genuine?

I think he's talking about Ellen Lewis. She's been casting director for Scorsese movies from the 80s right up to The Wolf of Wall Street. Any Scorcese fan has to acknowledge how brilliant she is at her job. Look at the actors that have played such critically acclaimed roles in movies such as Goodfellas, Casino, The Departed, Gangs of New York and The Wolf of Wall Street. She is a genuine legend and I reckon Jim won't forget his close brush with infamy any time soon...

Wow, Stephen really dropped the ball throughout this interview, I think we saw his true colors shine through here. It was petty the way he botched an interview with someone who he very clearly has some personal problems with. From the beginning Stephen tried to make it about race, an us vs them deal, Jeffries was having none of that shit and he clearly went off track from whatever was agreed on during rehearsal, but the quite frankly childish way that Stephen handled it with was painful to watch. This is the first time I've seen Stephen so out of his element, and it is there for all to see that he was nervous as all hell having someone who could tell a joke without looking at a teleprompter. I feel like it is important to remind Stephen of a John Lennon quote here, "Miss one day of practice and you'll know it, miss two days of practice and everyone will know it.", Practice being around people who challenge you.
