I love the way he draws. He draws so quick and elegant. It's like he's gliding over the paper.

This is hilarious because of Jim Lee's rejection letter from Marvel telling him to come back "when you have learned to draw hands."

Right?! Genuinely, when I get stuck drawing hands - hell anything really - , I think - 'what would Jim do?'
@codec69
@codec69 10 жыл бұрын
Yes, he posted that letter himself. Cause naturally he couldn't be born while knowing how to draw hands, could he now ? Everyone sucked at hands at some point in their life, so did Jim. That however means nothing now.
@danloadable2011

I do believe the point is that someone as brilliant as Jim, at one point had the same trouble that a lot of us have, and even got quite a curtly worded letter, which in a way is reassuring. In a retrospective kind of way, that's amusing as.. well, you saw what they said, and look how good he is now.

It's pretty amazing to watch talented artists just casually draw hands, which to me are the single hardest thing to get right ever. Haha.

Whoa, that asymmetrical pentagon shape method is the SIMPLEST method to drawing hands I've ever seen. He made sense of so much stuff in so little time. Amazing.

Truly an inspiration to many artists both starting off and established. I really enjoyed how he broke down the fundamentals to drawing the hands in multiple positions. I haven't picked up a pencil (well to draw anyway) in such a long time. This video alone has inspired me to pick it up again. Awesome video and Jim Lee is amazing.

I notice that for artists like Lee, it's as important to be an anatomist as it is an artist. That, plus the ability to visualize in 3D. Through sheer repetition of doing it, this guy's a master.

I don’t even have a problem drawing hands but people always ask what the secret to drawing them is.And I never have any tips other than I just draw what I see or what I’m envisioning in my mind.So this was great to watch for that reason alone due to the way Jim simplifies things and makes them easier to understand.

My main problem is making the feet look good. (Just like with the rest of the body, make a sketch of where the fingers should go, then build up shape. It also helps to put the hands in first, then sketch out the arms.

"Repetition is the mother of mastery." (Just be sure you're repeating the right actions :-) When you see somebody making the difficult look easy? You can be sure it was difficult for them at some point, too, but their desire & determination overpowered & outlasted their frustration, laziness, lack of focus, etc.

If one want to really learn to do it right then reviewing this is vital. Don't just watch it once then you try to do wat he did and fi d your self incompitent. One must not be like that. A quote says "The belief that greatness already exist becomes the enemy of mastery!" - Tony Jeary (Strategic Acceleration). In a Philippine noon time a show, a singing contestant was probably sarcastic about what she said, "Practice makes permanent". VERY TRUE. When you always practice whatever that hing you like the most makes you better at it. Just look at Mr. Lee. He is now a master and that is now permanent. Biologically or physically speaking. Scientist found out that Myelin is also responsible in all this and not muscle memory. I can say that "Mastery is permanent!"
