I've dabbled in watching some pre-80s wrestling before but this is the first time I'm honestly hyped and excited. Commentator is amazing as well.

Toots Mondt was the main promoter of the day and he was also Vince McMahon Sr's original partner when he got his start in the business. He was part of the "gold dust trio" with Strangler Lewis and Londos, his 2 stars.

The Gold dust trio was Toots Mondt, Ed Strangler Lewis and Billy Sandow. Londos came a decade later.

No wrestling started becoming pre determined in 1920.

@@jeffd5759 What I said. They tried to make it look real. Which also was less exciting.

Where did you hear that? Londos' debut as a wrestler predated Vince Sr's first wrestling card by about twenty years. John Kontos is the man most credit with discovering Londos. This happened during the 1920s. When Londos wrestled in MSG, it was on the bill of Jack Curley, not McMahon, who would not acquire exclusivity rights to promote in the building until the late-50s.

Who's the announcer? He's expending as much energy as the guys in the ring.

The main draws of the original and modern NWA organizations in succession were Frank Gotch, Joe Stecher, Ed Strangler Lewis, Jim Londos, Lou Thesz, Harley Race, Ric Flair.

So is this match a work.By the way when did wrestlers start working matches.

Wrestling became largely worked by the 1920's following the introduction of the Slam Bang Western style. But wrestling matches were worked long before that. "Barnstorming" was the term. Frank Gotch, for example, had a series of worked matches in the Yukon before becoming world champion.

Yes it's a work; or more accurately a simulated shoot witn exaggerated elements (eg. an airplane spin) and a predetermined winner. But it's still presented like a sport between two competitors. In terms of works, they evolved over time. Even in the pre-work era of the 1800s, wrestlers like William Muldoon learned that spectators on his tours didn't enjoy paying to see multi-hour matches with long stretches of little to no action. He and other top attractions learned that "selling" a bit in terms of being in jeopardy of losing was good for business.

well matched fighters: Nagurski was better technical wrestler, but Londos was better man and slowly softened up his bigger opponent with those muscled arms… best man won...

LOL. Nagurski is the muscular one, Landos is short and fat.

Nagurski lacked legit grappling skill. He was a hall of fame football player. But he could fake it with the best of them. Londos on the other hand did have some legit grappling skill. He wasn't as good as a few of his contemporaries, but good enough to work marks.
