Jim Moir
Jim Moir has been making paintings, drawings and prints since the early 1980’s. This practice has continued alongside acting and comedy for which he is better known, although to him they are all forms of artistic expression. His approach is refreshingly impulsive and his work often incorporates elements that are unsettling or bizarre. The Source might be from his imagination or an experience from life. The anarchic foundation for much of his comedy had created comparisons with radical art movements such as Dada, a reflexive response to the First World War. Rather than produce political art or protest, the Dadaists sought to disrupt or reject the established order with anarchic strategies that where often nonsensical. Absurd, irrational or satirical, as is to expose the folly of the war and a corrupted world order. Charlie Chaplin captured this spirit brilliantly in his film Modern Times of 1928 exposing the crushing effects of industrialised production on the human spirit. Moir is a compulsive artist, recording his thoughts and observations with abandon. The imagined and experienced worlds are chronicled in a prolific outpouring of ideas and thoughts beyond everyday life.

Could listen to Jim all day long. Smart, interesting, interested, funny (really funny). I love how a straightforward, serious, sentence, or phrase, can seem to amuse him, as well as his brilliantly comedic sentences/phrases. A true one-off.

I have been a huge fan of Vic and Bob since they first came on TV. But this is the first time I have ever seen Jim as Jim. A real revelation and I am not disappointed. Clearly loves his art and appears very knowledgeable on the subject.

It's quite hard for me to relate Jim moir to Vic reeves because Vic made laugh so much and I'm waiting for him to say 'the dove from above ' or 'heres Judith grant who smells rather biscuity'. Very different characters. Bob Mortimer seems much the same.

It's nice to see him for once relaxed in conversation, interviews with 'Vic' are always awkward which is understandable given his natural shyness which probably flinches at any expectancy for him to be instantly 'on', plus his brand of obsurdism/derailment of convention is considered and crafted and can't be replicated in a sterile setting, it's like the Zappa quote "Writing about music is like dancing about architecture"

A new to me person but so glad I stumbled across this interview. Ive always created. I do think people can come to art in all sorts of ways and ages. There's no rules. Having said that, I too cant go a day without opening my art journal and drawing or working on a project. It's a lifelong passion to be around art, looking at art and making art. Art is life giving for me.

I like this guy, and what he says I can relate to. I pursued art myself for a while; I went to TAFE in my twenties, and I too couldn't find an identifiable style.

Really interesting listening Jim Moir, as opposed to Vic Reeves. Didn't realise he had been an artist for so long.

really, if you think about it, his whole career is born from his art: the surreal landscapes that form the backdrop to his comedy are essential to his success. his style is unique, and to 'get' it involves you submitting to (and immersing yourself in these worlds). otherwise it's just lunacy. love him.

It's really a shame they didn't clean the lens before filming this. Those two spots are totally distracting
