I believe the full quote is "Hey Mr. DJ, next time you play a record, make sure the needle is in the groove. The edge doesn't sound so nice." The grooves of a vinyl record are those little depressions in which you set the needle of a record player. If you set the needle on the edge of a record, you wouldn't really hear anything.
