I was too young to know about dirt sheets, so when Jericho made his debut I was caught completely off guard. What a mark out moment.

This was the event that lead me to discover dirt sheets. I watched wcw and my best friend watched wwf exclusively... I noticed we hadn't seen Jericho in a while and then my friend told me about the count down to y2j so we got on the ol dial up and looked it up... opened our eyes.

That's funny I never went on the website, because I just didn't do much on the internet at the time. I remember seeing the clock and saying it's Jericho, I know it, he's coming to WWE(F). I hoped they would do more with him then WCW did, and they did as they should have, because he's one of the all-time greats.

That's what sets Chris apart from so many up and comers back then. Cause hindsight is a beautiful thing, that starting salary was a risk for them. I mean us fans knew he was great but that doesn't sell a resumè. Jr has said it before you could have all the boxes checked but to have It. You either have the it factor or you don't. Fuck even his comedy shit in WcW was golden. The conspiracy bit or the 1000 holds were some of my favourites. Man loved the business always, it shows in his work. But to be the guy to bring him in in the early days. Your either savvy as fuck or lucky as fuck. JR is far from lucky.

The Goldberg was one of the best promos in WCW especially the Calling him Greenberg and claiming he beat Goldberg 2 times. The bodyguards where pretty funny as well, getting guys that are just regular WCW works was also great because it got them camera time, you could see they enjoyed being noticed by a guy like Chris. Who is very friendly person, Chris was old school heel from the throw back days, he made you believe everything he said.

It was a gutsy move by Jericho as this was a time when everybody at that moment seemed to want to stay in WCW for that guaranteed money and fewer dates. The move paid big dividends for Jericho, Big Show, Benoit, Eddie and the ones who bailed before WCW went under.

@@Padge112 LOL, it didn't matter that I knew Jericho was debuting that night for sure because without the surprise was still just as exciting. Monday Night Jericho! One of the dumbest things Goldberg ever did was not do a program with Jericho. Chris could have put him over and made him "look" like a real wrestler instead of a football player who just no-sells and spears people. Instead, he had a bug up his ass about it for years.

Probably the easiest "signing" ever, since Jericho wanted to get out of WCW after Bankrupt Bischoff shut down his proposed idea with Goldberg (Jericho even wanted to lose) and was basically hell-bent on coming to the WWE. Just more proof of the idiocy, short-sightness and cluelesness of Bankrupt Bischoff.

Are you that stupid? Bischoff made that company. WCW falling to WWE was all Ted Turner and AOL Dumbass
@QuentinDude
@QuentinDude 2 жыл бұрын
Its easy to say that now. Jericho had a good thing going in WCW but at that time, he wasn't a huge name there. But if you told me at that time (late 90's) that in 2021 Jericho would still be wrestling for a major promotion and had a long and illustrious career I probably wouldn't of believed it.

@@greenbaysixxstring5008 I don't really blame Turner. He lost control and the new guys were idiots we thought WCW was worthless and somehow AOL was worth the world despite broadband, and cheaper better dial up already displacing it.
@iTubeYourDadsMinge
@iTubeYourDadsMinge 2 жыл бұрын
@@greenbaysixxstring5008 Wrong. Bischoff turned the company around from losing huge amounts of money, to a company making huge amounts of money. However, he had virtually no idea about how to sustain the growth of the company. There is no shame in that, and Bischoff can’t solely be blamed for the company’s downfall. But his reliance on the tired NWO angle, and inability to allow wrestlers to actually tell stories during matches, whilst he wasted guys like Austin, Jericho, Benoit, and Guerrero, was a huge part of the company’s decline. People were bored of seeing older stars just doing run-ins and getting in mass brawls every single week. Find one Nitro where the main event ended in a clean finish. Never forget that the ‘finger poke of doom’ happened on Bischoff’s watch, and that was the very moment that the ratings began to shift back in the WWF’s favour. Whilst a tired WCW audience was switching over to watch Steve Austin in the WWF, Bischoff was STILL overlooking the the likes of Jericho, Guerrero and Benoit, whilst he continued booking the stale NWO angle every week, and boring the remaining audience into submission.

JR said they didn't know how the crowd would react. But the pop when Jericho showed on screen after the unknown music played for 10 seconds was huge. I was a giant Jerichoholic but didn't know he was the countdown clock, so I was surprised it was him. Again, huge fan, but he was mid-card in WCW, didn't know how WWE would use him, but giving him the clock and interrupting the Rock was huge, and the pop was bigger. Then they mid-carded him for far too long, but as normal, Chris carried himself up the card to the top. Good times!
