We picked up some bulk peanuts at our restaurant store a couple of weeks ago so that Jim could revisit a project he used to do as a single dad with his young daughter. It is a happy memory for him.

Jim: If you did not want to make your peanut butter completely smooth it would make a really good homemade peanut butter cup candy if rolled in balls and dipped in chocolate. A kind of deluxe treat for grownups. They used to sell a peanut butter making machine. I have noticed that many of the brands of peanut butter contain less than healthy fats to keep the peanut butter emulsified. When I make peanut butter, I purchase reduced salt roasted peanuts in the can and rinse them under running water before using them to make peanut butter. This will give you better control over the salt level you mentioned and they are already blanched and roasted. Good video, I enjoyed seeing you in the kitchen. Pam is probably enjoying a momentary break. Keep up the good work.

We grew peanuts last year. We pulled them up and dried them on the plant. We stored the peanuts in a burlap bag until we got around to shelling them. We finally got them shelled this winter. We soaked them for 24 hours in salt water, draining and rinsing after 12 hours. We dehydrated them and roasted them. We made peanut butter out of some of them and stored the rest in sealed jars. We didn't use any oil or honey and it really taste good. It isn't like store bought peanut butter, but it is so good. We are growing twice as many peanuts this year.

How cool! I’ve never heard of anyone growing them and then turning them into peanut butter! We don’t have the climate for peanuts where I am but it’s really cool hearing that someone else did it!

Here in the south we loved boiled peanuts, but they take acquiring a taste for them. You start with green uncooked peanuts, wash and boil them in salt water for hours till they are soft. To a true southerner they are delicious. But peanut butter is wonderful too. Great job on the video Jim!

Thanks, Jim. I still don’t make my own. It’s so easy to use the grinder at the store. And it’s just peanuts. Or almonds, or cashews. No salt, but I avoid salt anyway. But I also buy the jars of Kirkland Organic Peanut Butter at Costco. Just organic dry roasted peanuts and sea salt. But there’s always soo much oil in there! Just wondering what the difference is. You even added some oil and it still was dryer than the Kirkland without oil🤷🏻‍♀️
@missbiggs9437
@missbiggs9437 5 ай бұрын
My understanding is roasting is the key factor as it brings out the natural oils. If the nuts aren’t roasted you’d have to add oil to get to a smooth consistency.

Home Made Peanut Butter recipe form Organic gardening or Prevention Magazine. very tasty made it for my children using raw peanuts but they enjoyed the blanched peanuts better, also made Sunflower seed butter using the same recipe. 1 cup shelled peanuts 3 T, oil if you use less after it sets for awhile it soaks up the oil and and becomes dry. 17. honey (using can use molasses. We had bees so we used honey. Put peanuts and oil into the container of an electric blender. Turn on the blender and blend 1 minute longer If you want your peanut butter sweeter add a little honey and blend a few more seconds.

It looks easy enough, thanks to you, Jim. We eat a ton of peanut butter as we both love it. I tried making some with a kindergarten class I had about 30 years ago. I used a recipe and a blender. It didn't turn out well at all. Perhaps the oil was rancid, and I just didn't realize it. But this makes me want to try again. I've wondered what we would do once our store of peanut butter is gone if we couldn't purchase more. Maybe, I just need to buy peanuts in bulk. I'll definitely try this first. Thank you. You guys always give us such good information that we need and can use right away.

Thank Jim for this demo on making peanut butter. It reminded me of when our family lived in Tonga (pacific islands) 60 years ago. They grow peanuts and my mother had a simple cheap blender and made peanut butter. As we had moved there from the USA for a few years it was a fun welcome treat. She made cookies, smoothies (before that was a thing) and other dishes. 😊

Hi Jim. I’ve been making homemade peanut butter for years. I use Spanish peanuts from Azure. I don’t blanch my peanuts, but I do roast them until they’re light brown and have a pleasant aroma upon which I load them into my Blendtec (or Vitamix) blender. I blend them on medium speed for about three minutes. Add some kosher salt, blend them again to incorporate the salt and they’re done. What I end up with is an ultimately smooth and creamy peanut butter with no added oil. I’d love you to try my method and let me know if it works for you. Thanks for all your hard work with Pam on this wonderful channel. It’s one of my most favorite KZfaqs! Best, Pamela
