Great talent. Great voice. No slouch on the gui-tar. Wonderful and nicely understated humor in his rendition of this tune.

"No slouch on guitar" is putting it lightly. Look up some of his Spanish and Classical style guitar playing.

The first song that my brother and I learned from our father who passed away 20 years ago. Never really knew the history of the song before. That was 40 years ago, fond memories. My brother is 51, and I will be 50 in a few months. We both can still play this song in multiple chords, great old song, thank you dad..

I used to know a guy who said the police got his five acre field of weed and destroyed it. He was smiling when he said it so I figured there was more to the story. Turns out they missed his other field which had ten acres of the same stuff.

I remember catching an occasional showing of "Nashville Now" on "The Nashville Network" back in the 1980s. Jim Stafford looks so youthful here! I'm guessing this originally aired in 1985 (where Jim would be 41 years old). He looks thirty here! He was guest-hosting here. Ralph Emery ( "NN"'s regular host) knew how to conduct cordial interviews with the biggest stars of country music back in the day. I miss the classic "TNN". The channel would later see changes & morph into "Spike TV" - so sad.

It was 1986, and I was working for a Nightclub, by the name of "Goodies." Well, one of the bartenders introduced me to a man, who was in charge of the Mobile Del Taco Truck, and he had to be in Yucca Valley, for the Grubstakes Festival. She couldn't work, so I did it. While we were there, I found out that Jim Stafford was performing there, so of course, on our break/lunch, we mozied on down to the stage, sat down, and waited for him to appear. He did. He was hilarious. We were smashed, because the Budweiser truck was there too. So of course, we HAD to partake. Oh man, was I obnoxious. Poor Mr. Stafford, was so gracious about my constant requests for every song I'd played on the album he's talking about, in this video. I finally shut up, and he thanked me(Lol), and he began to sing this song. "Wildwood Weed." Thank you Mr. Stafford, for putting up with me back then.

Back in the 70's it wasn't legal anywhere. Never made sense they put it in the same classification as heroin and cocaine. For one, it's non-addictive and it was impossible to overdose on it. Worst thing that could happen is you'd eat everything in the kitchen and fall asleep.

My family and I were at Andy's Igloo in Winter Haven Fl the other night and met Mr. Stafford sitting next to us eating a cheeseburger and fries with a friend of his. Both were a delight to talk too. I thought I recognized him but wasn't sure..and didn't want to bother him. but his friend asked if we heard of the song Spider and Snakes and said it was him. Jim Stafford is very cool and funny...

I was privileged to hear this great entertainer when we went to Branson a number of years ago. He was a fantastic singer as well as a GENUINE Southern gentleman. We waited 45 minutes to talk to he and his wife after the show. It was almost midnight before it was our turn, and he was just as happy and cordial with us as the first people he talked to. I am and will always be a JIM Stanford fan! God Bless you JIM!

bought the 45 RPM single the week it came out in the spring of '74. Stayed on the charts for about 2 weeks 'and then everything was gone'. Great song. Our record club thought it got robbed not being a bigger hit. Many other great songs that spring and summer that got robbed including 'I Believe' by Songbird, 'Werewolf' by 5 Man Electrical Band and 'River's Risin' by Edgar Winter Group.

i'm searching for a very similar sounding song hoping someone can help. my memory is really fuzzy all i can remember is the lyrics were written as a tale for growing marijuana in a farm/field. near the beginning, the tune started off talking about seeds (i think being planted near a farm) then towards then end i think it went on about the finished plants. i almost thought this was the song but the lyrics were definitely different
