@hophole Did you just call my City a joke??????? You ok, son? Several councils have gone bankrupt, and pretty much all of them are close to it. I don't get your point? It's the second largest economy and population outside of London It's developed dramatically over the last 20/30 years, the city centres has completely changed, it hosted the last Commonwealth Games successfully and Aston Villa seems to be doing well. @MJ-nk7mp I'm not critical of any of those places from an astetic point of view, but Birmingham has a lot of nice parts, and I'm sure that the quality of the club, the manager, pay, access to European football, and the training ground is also important for their choices? I've been to Villas training ground, and Man Uniteds, Villas is better, I've also been to Southampton, Portsmouth, Plymouth and Brighton, they seem nice, particularly in the summer but I'm not sure how many top footballers would go there for that reason.

All in all these new American owners/fans don't understand football or its culture. They're not franchises like in the NFL and fans don't swap allegiances at the drop of a hat. Supporting a club is a generational thing, it can be an identity, the passion for your club no matter which players come and go isn't negotiable, they'll never understand that side of English football culture.

You don't get to be a top man in finance in the states, without knowing how to back up your words with actions. That doesn't mean these people never make a mistake, it means that when they make one they learn from it. If you had said 30 years ago that the big team in Manchester wouldn't be United people would have laughed, but now? Blues have not got such a big gap to close, there is a massive support base just waiting for something good to happen to Birmingham, it may not happen today, but give it time.

I'm sure the club has fans but, in my experience, all the potential Birmingham City fans (ie those who despise Villa) simply latch onto whatever club is successful in the Premier League at any given time. The Blues owner should be more concerned about his team dropping into the third tier of English football instead of making ridiculous claims about overtaking Villa. Also getting out of League 1 isn’t easy just ask fans of Portsmouth, Derby, Sunderland, Charlton, Bolton, Reading and Wigan.

@j.worrall2674 27 күн бұрын
I think that message was taken way out of context. He mentioned 'named team in Birmingham', not being the 'main team in Birmingham'. We'll never overtake Villa; we just want to see our club going on an upwards trajectory, rather than be stuck in purgatory or going on a downwards spiral like it seems at the moment. While I sincerely doubt that we'll walk L1 if we go down, we have an advantage over a lot of the clubs mentioned in being financially sound (That is in the context of when they went down, as I know that some are now under new ownership). Most of those sides faced administration/embargoes. On the other hand, many of our squad will also be gone come the summer. One thing we will be disadvantaged in is competing against already established sides while we would need our team to gel.

You have common sense which they seem to lack like 'no fear football'. They should wait to see if relegation is avoided before making statements such as this. I am sick of clubs being owned by commodity and brand merchants, I am only a Villa fan because when I was young it was my original local team it was not a choice I could not help it, nor can I change it, sometimes I wish I lived in Walsall then I would have supported them. These owners are not supporters they have no local affiliation to club or or area they have different agendas.

@@j.worrall2674 being financially sound and having that money is only an advantage if you spend it wisely which means appointing the right manager and buying the right players, something Blues haven’t done in god knows how many years. @@Lewis88-wr6sm Very true, Lewis. I'm hopeful that we can recruit more shrewdly and not spunk it like we have. From what was shared in the Open House, we seem to be evaluating our strategy in recruiting players. We'll wait and see what comes of it. The new owners have been in place for less than a year. In that time, they have concentrated (mainly) on the infrastructure of the club that wasn't there under any of our other owners, ever. What people aren't seeing is the foundations the owners are putting in place, both structurally and financially. Prior to Knighthead, the club was losing an average of £400k a week, and was over £120m in debt. That's gone, and apart from the teams with parachute payments, they're on track to have the highest revenue in the division. That will be put into players this summer once FFP regulations reset. The work on the pitch starts in earnest next season, the bulk of what they've done already doesn't make the sports pages, so people just see the results and think they know everything. Keep doubting them, Blues fans meanwhile, will do what we always do, and Keep Right On.

Sick to death of hearing "it's all Roomey's fault" . I'm no Rooney fan, never wanted him but the facts are that the majority wanted Eustace out the week before he eventually went after we got battered at Norwich. The football was woeful. Yet as we then beat a woeful Huddersfield and had a fortunate win against WBA all that was forgotten. The reason we are going down actually has little to do with Rooney, he was there for less than a third of the season. We are going down because we are useless up front and hopeless at the back. All we have in the striking dept are Jutkiewicz, Hogan and Stansfield (who isn't a CF). Rooney said from day 1 that we needed strengthening in the Jan window. He didn't get the chance. I'm certain he would have signed strikers and a decent CB. What did Tony do? Signed 3 more midfielders to add to the 14 we already had and let Kevin Long (our only decent CB) leave for Toronto. We played 4-2-3-1 last night, that's 5 midfielders. On the bench we had 1 keeper, 1 RB, 1 striker and 6 midfielders. Add to that the 1st team players not in yesterday's match day squad consisted of 1 CB, 1 LB, 2 CM's, 3 wingers and Jutkiewicz. The balance of the squad is why we're going down, that's not Rooney's doing, that's on Eustace, Tony & Craig Gardner. The only tactic we've used all year is to keep swapping midfielders and the full-backs around and hope. We don't score goals and concede loads (usually in the last 5mins). That's why we're going down.

I have been shocked for years at how poorly-supported Birmingham City appears to be. They are in the second city FGS ! To only get 18,000 supporters coming to the ground is poor, really. They were in the PL 12 years ago (?) and win the League Cup in 2010 (?) - they should be getting mid 20ks. Their plight right now is due to the over-reaction to sack a Manager when you're 7th, and appoint a bafoon in Rooney. I don't want to see BCFC go down, but if they do it will be partly self-inflicted.

Theyre charging £37 a ticket and last night for example we had one shot on target… We dont score, we mostly always lose and barely even fight - why the f would anyone spend nearly £40 each week for that?! All after year upon year of miss management, points deductions & dodgy ownership

@@user-il5xg9of5k I take your points there, but my view is that when you're in a city with 3 million people within 45 minutes travel, they should still be able to generate more support. I dare say there are a lot of people who would call themselves BCFC fans, but they rarely go - and with results this season you can't blame them, I suppose. I still think that BCFC could be a bit of a 'sleeping giant' but it seems to have been mis-managed for many years;

A lot of people in Brum will support your typical 'top 6' clubs, or will not have an interest in football altogether. Youngsters who are brought up watching football will opt for the better of the two teams in Villa, as I doubt that they would want to watch Birmingham on a weekly basis. I'm a Blues fan simply because my dad is one, and my grandad as well before he passed. Fans of BCFC are fans mainly because of their family, as it seems to be becoming rarer to support your local team. We used to get large crowds if you look back some decades ago, but a lot of supporters from those days have either long since passed, or have lost interest in watching a poor team. Not to mention the overinflated prices they charge for home game tickets.

Birmingham will recover. Things are starting to go right at Board level and the fan base is far bigger than the Aston Villa base. So give it some years and they will be back to their rightful position as the number one club in the midlands. Wolves have been in that place for too long now.

Aston is a run down nasty suburb of Birmingham, it’s about time that the team that carries the name of the City starts to behave a perform as such, hopefully they can match the big talk and become to number 1 team in the midlands and put the ward of Aston back in its place.

Every Real Villa fan wants them back in the Premier for our City, but theres no way Blues will EVER be bigger than Villa! It will take them 10 years just to become a solid mid table Prem team at this rate! They have Todd Boely America delusion at the helm like Chelsea! Unlike two Villa Owners with a long history of sports franchises and business, a lot of orher American owners dont grasp rhe reality if English football and try to rush the process. 🤔

Knighthead have made ONE mistake, name a club that hasn't made mistakes. Nobody is looking at what Knighthead have done for Blues, completely redesigned the stadium, built more revenue than we have probably ever had. Yeah ok the playing side has been dismal but don't forget they are still stuck with FFP and players from the previous ownership, add in being unlucky with Mowbray, I can't thank them enough for what they have done, it's the players that aren't performing at the moment. Also Wagner said named not main and actually said he wants us to be on terms with Villa not bigger, he said a big derby with two teams doing well is great for the city

I honestly don't know what Jim's talking about...I really don't! The biggest difference I've found between Blues and Villa is ambition! Villa have shown much more ambition as the years have passed and by and large, they've done quite well. But Blues have ambition now! Mr Wagner's come in and shown us his vision of what he wants to do and see so my question to Jim is this: What the Hell is wrong with that?! 🤬🤬
