How do you carve your own path as a bass player?
In this first-time collaboration, music icons and Dunlop Bass Strings artists Marcus Miller and Robert Trujillo get together to talk about how they came to be who they are as musicians. Discover the influences they share and how they’ve used the pivotal lessons they've learned to establish their own unique “voices” as bass players. After that, Marcus and Robert ditch the stools for a killer jam session featuring Rage Against the Machine’s Brad Wilk on drums.

Robert has always been way better of a bassist than Metallica deserves lol... I feel Robert is way above them. So was the original Cliff Burton. I really love Roberts funk punk aggressive style. What a badass... But I know he's getting that fat pay check from Metallica

That's kinda my story too. Learned classical und folk guitar as a child, then switched to electric guitar as a teen and played in a band a couple of years. Then life happened, university, marriage, kids and there wasn't a lot of time for the guitar which was okay. Then I was asked to join a band with multiple singers and maybe play guitar. But there was a really great guitarist from the US, we really didn't need me on guitar. But singing kinda wasn't enough so I thought, maybe try bass guitar. I bought a cheap but good bass and I completely switched my role as a musician and fell in love with the bass. So I kept on going and found my dream bass. Now I identify as a bassist who happens to also plays guitar sometimes. 😁

It kind of reminds me of Adrian Belew. He's 74 (and certainly looks it), but he has this infectious joy and energy to his performances. He comes out from behind the stage running and jumping over cables and whatever else, and I don't think he stops smiling even for 1/2 a second during his performances. He says he doesn't feel older than 35. He's been doing what he loves for so long that it's kept him young.

He's my favorite Bass Guitarist 👌🏿👌🏿 Thank you so much for talking about AJ. 👊🏿🖤 Marcus Miller influenced me way earlier than AJ coz I grew up listening to Music he played on for Luther and many Artistes. He's an incredible guy. Been trying to get him over here for a while now. I first heard about Trujillo on the Jaco documentary he did. Incredible work. They need to do one with Anthony Jackson while he's still with us. Greetings from Uganda 🇺🇬👊🏿🖤

Awesome. Awesome . Awesome. For all of those dudes who love that Larry Graham “Hair” song, which of course is ridiculously funkety, funkety, check out Darryl Geniffer from Bad Brains on their cover of the same song. His intro has got to be one of the top five funky bass intros that you wanna just rewind and hear again and again, and then after that, just one more time. And then try to figure out every nuance and inflection that gave that part, and EVERY part of every song you like, that THING you like. Two of those countless “things” are groove and tone.
