Great reaction (and well done on watching the unhelpful guide - there is a new one that is just 17 minutes long and that is very good too). This was actually at the Budokan, Black Night on 2nd March 2014. Su was just a couple of months past her 16th birthday. 'Rondo of Nightmare' is one of her solo songs, so just her on stage with the Kami Band while Yui and Moa got a break. Her other solos (2 on each of the first two albums) are 'Akatsuki', 'Amore' and 'No Rain, No Rainbow'. Yui and Moa had 2 songs on each of the first two albums that they would perform as a duo (called Black BABYMETAL) while Su got a break as well. They are '4 No Uta', 'Onedari Daisakusen', 'GJ' and 'Sis Anger'. The Budokan is a martial arts centre built for the 1964 Olympics and now also a very prestigious music venue - not just anybody gets to play there, think of it as a sort of Carnegie Hall or Madison Square Garden where people aspire to play. Given it is a martial arts centre the audience is in the round, the stage is in the middle. BABYMETAL are the youngest average age female band to headline at the Budokan (Su was just 16, Yui and Moa 14) and they sold it out two nights running - their first album was yet to be released. The intro was called 'Mischiefs of the Metal Gods' and is not on the album - it is a Kami Band live instrumental. In this one they were Leda Cygnus, Takayoshi Ohmura, BOH with his 6 string bass and Hideki Aoyama on drums. Rondo is a musical term describing a repeated theme. They have borrowed the term for 'Rondo of Nightmare' as Su is caught in a recurring nightmare, being chased through the darkness but she doesn't know by what. Finally she hides in a fountain, but whatever is chasing her still comes closer and, accepting there is no escape, she asks that if she is to die won't it at least show itself to her. She was 16 dancing and singing on a raised platform about 10 feet above a rotating stage in the darkness, all lights on her. What a performance.

One of BABYMETAL's darkest songs. It's about being chased by an unknown beast/demon in an endless nightmare and where Su bends over and "nasal" sings she asks the beast to show its face to her before it kills her. Definitely bad ass metal. 🤘🦊🤘

Great reaction. BABYMETAL concerts are 1-1.5 hours long and the girls go HARD on every song, so Moa and Yui use Su's solo songs as a chance to take a break. I like to think that Moa is fueling up by eating fried chicken and Yui eating tomatoes....others like to say that they are backstage doing homework! LOL 🦊🤘

Su is 17 years old, standing on a small circle 12 or 13 feet in the air with a spotlight in her eyes and she never blinks! She has been trained since she was about six years old, and she is incredible!

Great reaction! Rondo of Nightmare is possibly my most favourite BABYMETAL song (most of the time, it tends to vary). I love the melody in the chorus, it's incredibly beautiful with a haunting dark atmosphere, and it's quite complex, too. As you said, the whole song and its rhythmic structure are quite complex, and may need more than one listen to fully grasp. I love the rhythmic correlation of the piano and the guitars and vocals, especially during the second verse. It's not even that obvious on the first listen, but if you specifically focus on the piano, you notice how strangely interesting it is. And of course, the visuals are pretty perfect, too, right up to how Su's hair falls during the final scene.

I’ve done enough study to know it is a large team of people who are to be credited for the final product, the recorded songs and live performances. As it is with any large entertainment business. There is something here that is very unique.

I think the 'schizoprenic' piano backtrack behind the metal sounds came from Dance of Macabre, a classical piece often used to depict death. It exactly aligned with what the song is about: an inescapable recurring nightmare, despair, and death.

Although this Budokan Black Night performance was the most popular version of the song and the Mischief of Gods Intro, I still think their performnace in Yokohama Arena was the best version. The sound running for me was way heavier than in here. The stage production from this Budokan performance was still top-notch though. Every babymetal live always never fail to amaze you. I guess the others pretty much told you that this is one of Su's solos wherein Yui and Moa were taking a break. If you want another Su's solo, I recommend you Amore. It has very stable and consistent double bass drums that I'm sure you'll love. Unlike RoN that has dark lyrics, Amore has a beautiful lyrics. Catch you at the foxhole! They only had one album at the time of this concert, and they performed every song off that album. There are two songs that Su performs alone at this concert,, and there are two songs Yui and Moa (referred to as Black BABYMETAL) perform without Su. They do not perform this particular song in concert any longer. In fact, this may be one of the last times they ever performed it live.

You can think what you want about Babymetal, but nobody can deny that there is really huuuge talent on the instruments and especially on the microphone! What the girls and men present on stage is simply great entertainment! My personal favourite of Su-Metal's solo performances is by far the song 'No Rain, No Rainbow' from their 'Legend - S - Baptism XX' concert. This song just keeps getting under my skin on so many levels and also shows one of the many other sides of Babymetal as well.

It's music JIM but not as we know it.

I don't like the Unhelpful Guide. It has some feminism and random man hating shoved in there. And it overemphasizes Sakura Gakuin. Babymetal was planned before Sakura Gakuin existed. To me Karen Girls was much more influential. But that is just my opinion. But either way Babymetal was never 'just' a subgroup of Sakura Gakuin. I don't recommend watching any guides. I'd say go watch some Sakura Gakuin and Karen Girls videos you'll get the idea. Or watch 'The history of Suzuka Nakamoto' it's only 5 minutes and summarizes the history very briefly.
