One of several cash-in singles released by Ed Chalpin, the man who thought he was Hendrix's manager until he realised Jimi had fled to England with ex-Animal Chas Chandler.
Prior to that, Chalpin had teamed Jimi up with producer Curtis hoping he would groom him to stardom in the US.

Back in the 80's I had the pleasure of meeting Curtis Knight. He said "I am the man that discovered Jimi Hendrix". I said I know who you are and a smile came to his face. I remember he was very nice.
@SuperKenn10
@SuperKenn10 10 жыл бұрын
He didn't discover Jimi, they recorded together in '67, Jimi was playing with Little Richard in '64 and before that he played with the Isley Brothers (neither of whom are insignificant in the world of Rock). The significant person in bringing Jimi's career on was Chas Chandler. Having said that I love Curtis' voice and I think that playing with him gave Jimi a certain freedom that he had not had before (but I wouldn't call that a 'discovery'). Eternal Fire is a great album.

I thought Chas Chandler discovered Jimi. I remember he asked Eric Clapton to jam with Jimi, soon after his arrival in the UK. Eric couldn't keep up and famously stormed off stage. Chas caught up with a chain smoking EC, who said,"you didn't tell me he was that bloody" good. Though I realise, this might be an urban myth
@SuperKenn10

Jimi did play on stage with Eric shortly after coming to England and Eric was concerned about the new-comer because he rang Pete Townsend about it but I don't think he stormed off stage.

+PKS5324 Actually, I was a child agent in 1965 in NYC , a kid who was 1 year older than Jimi, I remember asking why the U.K. ? He said I want to meet Jeff Beck and jam with him! Met him that night when we trying to put together a deal. Amazingly BBC ! radio passed on booking jimi, so did the same club that Pink Floyd was playing and ABC Tv, as that time they had a direct tie to an independent network.................................... They all said, thanks , but , no thanks I told Jimi , don't wait for those a**holes , Go with your group, went you play for them it will open all the doors. that was the first and last meeting with JIMI JIMI, hope you met the saucer people on the way up !!!!!
@MichaelSherrer
@MichaelSherrer 7 жыл бұрын
That's a great story FD, thank you for posting that. You were there. Probably so were the saucer people. Also, John Hammond gave him similar advice- "John Hammond recalled the bittersweet moment: "And I said, 'Well, listen- it's about time. I know you are going to be a big start and just have a great time.' I saw him a year later, and he came and hung out with me for a week. And he didn't have to do that, you know? He was just a great guy. He was a human being."

Hush now. Thanks for posting, even with static, clicks and skip on the old 45. This is a short version of the song. I once posted a clean copy of the complete Hush Now, no fade out ending, all the way to the very last few notes played by Curtis Knight (as Jimi’s guitar finally does “Hush Now”). I got it on vinyl double album “in Memorium” published by Polydor in Germany. KZfaq took it down citing copyright issues. Too bad I can’t share it with Hendrix enthusiasts. It’s a unique and rare gem.

That's Bernard Purdie on "Flashing". Of all the players on that session, Purdie was the most well-known. Curtis remembered Hendrix was excited to meet the highly regarded drummer and was reported to have asked Purdie "Hey man, did you bring your signs?" - referring to the famous "You done hired Bernard "Pretty" Purdie, the little old hit maker" advertisement, which Purdie would proudly display beside his kit during sessions. When Purdie produced the signs, Hendrix laughingly exclaimed "Far out!”

Eric Clapton was good. Technically proficient...in fact head and shoulders above what most can manage. Jimi is in a league of his own, sometimes technically flawed, but unique and in my opinion Jimi can never be replicated...he did everything as if he was born playing. Clapton wasn't best of British, Peter Green was. Peter Green was Britain's blues man, miles ahead of Clapton and Page.

I believe the same but not willing to "define Jimmy's future" something he could not predict at all, than to have his own style, groovy, soul-funky enough before Sly Stone, a most free and hippy style than J.Brown's or Otis Redding's. Jimi at these recordings doesn't use any distortion, only wah. I think that Cream's sound affected him to put so many sound effects after he flew in England!

Where's Welcome Home, Don't Accuse me and some other songs from Get That Feeling album by Curtis Knight and Jimi Hendrix? KZfaq is cutting us from the roots! Fortunately I have downloaded those 15 years earlier as well as One Day Tripper. Soon only Justin Beyonce and others like those will remain on YT. O tempora, o mores! Greets from Poland.
