Baba Jimi Solanke - the great, much-celebrated singer and songwriter, dramatist and folklorist, author and visual artist - turns 80 on Monday, July 4 2022. In this chat with Beautiful Nubia, he talks about his early life, long career, family, etc. Nobody can tell a story like The Storyteller!

Thank you so much for doing this interview with pa Jimi Solanke. I just happened to stumble upon this video. I grew up watching and listening to him on TV back in those days on BCOS. I have always loved his folklore stories and the way he uses yoruba culture and language in his music. So glad he is still very much alive. We just don't have people like him anymore. ❤❤Love love seeing the two of you together. It is indeed " Deep calling unto the deep". Well done Eniobanke- Beautifu Nubia.

This is big and ancestral Brother, i m from Iperu-Remo and used to go to Baba Solanke family house at Ipara on bicycle from Iperu-Remo! The interview brought tears into my eyes, remembering how safe we're then as children!!

God bless you Daddy Segun for this interview! I love that you spoke about his song - ojo oje. Im a GenZ and I can relate so much to his songs. This interview is a timeless piece that we will continue to make reference to in the future when we talk about a man who lived a full and prosperous life!

I am so happy to see Uncle Jimi again since the time he was living at 13Apalara street ,Modakkeke.He loves us children then,he would sing for us,always happy and smiling. Baba Agba,l wish you more strength sir and more years in the land of the living lJMN.Amen

I so much respect that Baba Jimi Solanke Baba is a blessing to this generation I also respect Mr Segun Akinlolu (Beautiful Nubia). Mr Segun has painted us with so many words of hope courage and so many more. I know by the grace of God me and Mr Segun Akinlolu and Baba Jimi Solanke will be a close friend. I cherished this two great artist alot, both of them were so talented. I am so happy to know them in my generation. God will keep them alive for me.

I stayed up till 2am to finish watching the interview. It brought back old memories, seeing Baba Agba gesticulating, and singing. I missed his voice. Thank you (Uncle Gagun in Darasimi's voice). Eku Ise Sir.

I watched the entire interview and i must confess I find it very informative, educative and interesting for an African and Cultural individual like me. I'm impressed with Beautiful Nubia for this is a way of immortaling Baba Jimi Solanke who believed in his dreams in the entertainment industries right from young age and live it to the fullest. Baba has gone home to rest but his works of Arts will surety remains with us for years. Adieu!

May he rest in peace. He was a legend. I ran into him when I was at NTV(Now NTA) Victoria Island and in Festac Town during the Festac Festival in 1977. Great man.

When I heard about Pa Jimi Solanke demise today, I went to search for this interview. It's so sad to loose such a legend I hope some highly spirited people would upgrade his Art place at Ipara for prosperity Nigeria has indeed lost an enigma and a highly talented and versatile personality May his soul rest in peace
