I was at this concert. I was 17 years old and somewhere in the audience. People were sitting around because this was an all day festival with lots of bands. Very hot also.

@@legatou Really? Let's see.. He said he was 17, the concert was in 1968, subtract 1968 from 2018, add his age +/- for his birthday... And you have 67/68 years of age. Simple math.

Hendrix for me is The Messiah of music. Everybody aspires to be him and yet nobody can replicate the godlike guitar skills and musical composition which seems to tap into abstract realms. There will never be another musician like him. Besides his guitar, his musical talent was full spectrum - his composition, lyrics, vocals and stage presence were out of this world. And behind that talent lies a very down to earth, sometimes withdrawn, person who people just wanted to be around and associate with.

Jimi Hendrix was way ahead of his time as his music still sounds fresh today, especially his live performances. This guy was and is about as untouchable as one could ever hope to be as a musician and an innovator. Amazing talent, and also Mitch Mitchell on the drums too, pretty much invented hard/heavy rock drumming and his playing also still sounds fresh today just as Jimi's does.

Legends for sure!! They took rock/blues where it'd never gone before, and blew so many minds, and sadly very under appreciated until after his death. I'd have loved to have seen where his talent would've evolved to, but he left us a great legacy and a TON of memories that for me, will always be cherished, especially after getting to meet Jimi and hang out for a while. His on stage and off stage personas, were like total opposites, and he truly loved each and every person who listened and watched him on stage, and was as down to Earth and humble as anybody, when offstage. I've gone to see many concerts & guitar players live in 60+ yrs. & none have sounded like Hendrix. People watched Hendrix at concerts amazed, have you ever been experienced?
@stevekaye9179

Jimi was just a gift sent from another universe, to show us just what could be done with a Stratocaster and two pedals. No dozens of electronic, just the strength of his hands and fingers, twisting and bending the guitar. He doesn't even need to pick most of the time, just the fingering produces all the sounds and when he picks it is usually a background of the lead being played by his hands. So many guitar players have spent a lot of time learning how to copy one of Jimi's songs, but none of them can just stand on stage and create it the way that he did, behind his head, with his teeth, pressing against the mic stand, or against his amps so hard that they had to have someone behind them so that he did not knock over the stack. What an amazing gift, for far too short a time, but at least we have audio and video like this to see just how the magic was produced. Thank you Jimi.

Watching any Jimi, is like experiencing the big bang. Why? well, he was the first to bring electric guitar into IMMENSE VOLUME and gain. The big bang was the birth of our universe, Jimi Hendrix was the birth of WILD electric blues/ H Metal, Hard Rock, and everything else. When you see him play like this, you are experiencing the first ever stage of everything to come after it....Shred, SRV,, you name it.... We all wish we could of seen the big bang, we are VERY VERY fortunate to experience the godfather of the wild electric guitar. You can all say Clapton, Townsend etc, Page, but None of them combined what it took to make a huge stand like Jimi did.

The fact that this is a live performance is astonishing. It couldn't have sounded any better in the studio.

To be honest, it sounded studio quality to me. Supposedly a mark of a great musician is that he or she can recreate their studio sound when playing live, I guess...

Blows my mind how incredible these musicians are, especially Jimi and Mitch here (no diss to the bass either). This is as perfect as it gets for me as far as guitar and drums go...

I swear, when Jimi Hendrix plays guitar he doesn't look like he's playing guitar, he's amorphous and flowing and his hand barely touches the stringe, but the sounds he manages to create are mind blowing, this is why he's a good guitarist

The thing that strikes me about Hendrix every time I see a video of him is that the music flowed from him like water from a fire hose. All that aural awesomeness seems effortless.

Jimi was an innovator on the guitar, but Mitch was killing the drums on a quite simple config with two floor toms, while Noel was grounding the whole with solid cool bass riffs. That's why I always enjoy this experience.

This is Jimi Hendrix & The xperience. So the drummer, aka Cowboy, sounds almost better than Keith Moon. FOXY. Not much has happened since. I listen to a laddie whos name was Marius Muller. He aint as good but google him. I SHOT MY WOMAN DOOOOWN! No, Joe did. Sorry. I HAVE THE ORIGINAL TICKET FROM WOODSTOCK. Its an original copy of a ticket which was in the big purple Hendrix CD set.Get yer hands on that. Lots of his lyrics on paper in his writing. AND drawings and letters to his dad etc. What a LOSS. But his music lives on.
