When Letterman had bands on, no matter what genre rappers, heavy rock etc he didn’t say goodnight and speed off into darkness, he stayed on stage and shook hands and briefly met with the background members of the group.. I’m not saying Colbert is a deuche just based off that but it’s a possibility.

Had not heard of Jimmie Allen. Was about to click off when I spotted those cowboy hats. 😂 Glad I stuck around! ❤️ Now I need to look this guy up and see what else he’s done. EDIT: Ohhhh! He did Best Shot! LOVE that song and have it on iTunes. Just didn’t recognize the name. Now I will! 😍

It's the ol' Four Chord Song, also known as the Axis Progression, also known as the Sensitive Female Singer-Songwriter Progression, best described as I - V - vi - IV. A proven hit maker. In this case, it's in A major. An aside: I intentionally wrote a song with that progression - and I had to work on it off-and-on for three years before I figured out a way to do it that wasn't boring and stupid. The trick involved cheating, though - unpredictable rhythms, verse in minor (vi - IV - I - V) but chorus in major (I - V - vi - IV), and a transition that wasn't quite either.
