Yeah it takes time to get that understanding of guitar. It was the same for me. Take a Fender or Gibson guitar and plug directly into a Fender or Marshall amp and play. That tells the story. Looking forward to tonight. Will be a fun time. See ya tonight!

That is usually the case with Jimmie and SRV. Whether we try to or not it is a mental compare. That is why you were let down. And it isn't fair to any players really. Because there is just a small hand full of them who could stand up next to Stevie and shine with him, I've read where Jimmie and Eric Clapton both have said this, and I myself agree with them. Jimmie's playing style has really changed over the years, and maybe not always for the better, but trust me, back in the day he could really play. Check out the intro to 'Wait on time'. His style was far more authentic than Stevie, and he had beautiful, tasty phrasing. Give it a chance - sometimes things don't seem so impressive until you try to do it yourself, then you see the beauty in it.

No it's cool. And I don't allow angry comments on this channel, so don't worry about that. What I don't get is you said he only played for 5 minutes, then had someone take over for him. Was he sick? He had been having heart issues for quite a while. And the final question which I'm sure you're going to get here and need to answer is. How do judge someone as terrible after only hearing them play for 5 minutes?

This Festival and Jimmie Vaughan event, a festival that happens every summer in the town of Kitchener, took place approximately two summers before the covid lockdown. Jimmie Vaughan was presented with, I believe, a lifetime achievement award. He probably played about two or three numbers before leaving the stage. Perhaps he was unwell, I hadn't considered that; but I don't think so. I recall that at the time I was somewhat annoyed with him and with his playing. The person that replaced him was a young woman that I did not care to listen to. I had the idea that she might have been a young musician Jimmie Vaughan was sweet on and simply had her fill in for him. I strongly felt that Vaughan did not want to play. He was lazy. I have listened to Jimmie Vaughan a fair amount over the years. I liked his work with The Fabulous Thunderbirds and have the album, Family Style, he recorded with Stevie Ray Vaughan. Now, this is just me speaking; my opinion: I have never believed Jimmie Vaughan to be a good guitar player and I can be wrong about that. I really do not want to criticize him. I like him. I think that what has happened is that Stevie Ray acted as a kind of foil for Jimmie Vaughan. I have never heard any blues player as good as Stevie Ray Vaughan. He was beyond good. He was a miracle. And, because the two were brothers, I personally believe that it was Stevie Ray's fame that rubbed off on his older brother, Jimmie.@@RiverDocs

If the festival you were talking about was summer of 2022 that was a very bad health year for Vaughan. He was playing gigs but was on his way to a major heart attack that winter. His health/heart issues started in 2013 he had a couple of minor attacks where they put in stents and things but 2022 was a bad year for him health wise so that could have been the case on the show you are speaking of. I never thought Jimmie had much fame anyhow. He did as a blues player locally, but never nationally. Stevie brought blues to different level to the whole world! The Thunderbirds started to but when they broke nationally Jimmie quit, went back to Texas and played that old school blues he started out with. Why? I guess it's something inside of them...Johnny Winter...he did the same thing. Broke big nationally and didn't like it...went back to his roots and seemed happy with his playing then. I get where you're coming from with Stevie. He was one of the most powerful blues players I ever heard. The only person I ever heard who could stand up to him live on stage would have been Rory Gallagher. They both played as Stevie described it "like breaking out of jail" But that's just my opinion. But as far as terrible, naw I disagree with with you. Jimmie could play and had a great feel for the blues, especially that old school stuff. Those first 4 albums the Thunderbirds did before going mainstream with that Tuff Enuff had some really good playing on em. But again, that's just my opinion and we all have differences in them. The guy's 73 man - as I just explained to someone else, he was awesome years ago. "Wait on time" is all you need to hear to get an idea of what he was like live. That solo I learnt note for note, but I defy anyone to get the right feel that he plays with. Most just play it like Stevie would! You had to see him then to know. He was amazing.

And there would be no Stevie, without Jimmie.

Well, he was featured on a Santana record in '82, and the T-Birds had made 4 albums before Stevie had done anything so.......there's that. I kinda feel sorry for you.
