That Stevie Ray was a bad motor scooter, and big brother Jimmie, well he is a class act. What a touching tribute to his little brother. This acceptance speech is just oozing with love and pride. Genuine as can be and such a feel-good retelling of his his shared history with Stevie Ray that it brought tears to my eyes. Big brother done little brother proud. Well done Jimmie!

So proud of the way Jimmie held it together. I know it was hard for him. But he told people what they needed to know about SRV, and gave a hint of how powerfully he was loved.

Jimmy is absolutely right about Stevie blowing head liners off the stage. I saw SRV first time shortly after Texas Flood came out. First time I ever went to a show to see the warm up act. Stevie opened for Blackfoot. I went by myself because my friends were saying "Stevie who?..naw". Auburn,NY I'll never for get it. I went before I heard the album. I went on the radio play of P&J and Testify. I was totally blown away when Stevie did Voodoo Chile. The place went batshit even before he finished. The crowd got out of their seats to get close to him on stage and Stevie came close to the edge and sat down to greet the hoard. I stayed way back to take it all in. God I wish I had a tape of that show. There can be no doubt about this. There are a lot of people out there making music but few reach out from the speakers and just grab you and pull you in. That was 1983 I listen almost every day to a SRV song and will to my own death.

I'm from the Dallas area. I'm 62 (in 2019). Stevie will always be the greatest guitar virtuoso in my mind. Of course there are many great artists around the world. But when Clapton or BB say they were "blown away" by his skills I know he was very special. Dallas is known for a few good and bad things. Stevie was one of the best to be our native son.

"Big brother showed little brother how to play the guitar at first, but let me tell you, little brother showed big brother how to get clean and sober. He was sober four years and we were out playing gigs before I figured it out. He was sober four years before that helicopter went down on August 27, 1990. He died on the same day as our father, four years apart." "But I want to tell you that what Stevie didn’t get --- is what I have been able to have is my beautiful wife and my four kids. Music lost a good man. Our family lost their beloved. But he gave me something that will last forever. Every day I wake up clean and sober and I think of my brother. In the end, little brother taught big brother. On behalf of my brother Stevie Ray Vaughan and all our family, I thank you for this honor."

That speech was one of the nicest tributes I've ever heard. I teared up watching Jimmie hold back his tears. I really wish that Stevie could've had a family and grown into his later years and really enjoyed his legendary status. Stevie never had children but in a way he has millions of them in younger players (i say that being 39) who not only try day after day to play like him but are also influenced by his last 4 years of life being sober. I started playing in 92' so I was just barely too late but I'll never forget hearing him for the first time. My guitar teacher made me compilation tapes and he put love struck baby and texas flood onto a section and I listened to them and immediately rewound the tape to listen again. After that I became obsessed and read, listened to, and watched everything I could. I have a poster that I found in a Virginia mall that I still have today and treated like priceless art because I've never seen this poster anywhere else and still haven't even today. I love Stevie Ray Vaughan for the amazing player he was and more importantly for the sweet man he was until the day he died. He never took a day for granted and he loved his fans and never took us for granted. He would've loved how his influence has grown but he would be shining the light on all those who influenced him if he were alive today. When I found Stevie on that tape it sent me searching for who influenced him and I hope kids are still searching even today

Thirty one years later his music means more to me each day. So much to learn still from both the brothers. Today for me I'm just going to feel the love. One thing so unique about SRV and Double Trouble is they really did get along. Unlike most of their counterparts i.e. The Eagles, Fleetwood Mac etc. So if you can read this from Heaven Stevie I just want to say "thank you" you are one of a kind. And you have a twin named Greg. He doesn't play guitar but he looks just like you. He shared your music with me. So thanks to Greg too ~ kimie

I love them both, Jimmie is a brilliant guitar player, amazing sound and simply good taste. If you haven't heard him, go!! If you are a guitar player, you'll learn plenty just by listening attentively.

One of the greatest speeches I've ever heard! This was so tearful to me since Stevie is my all-time favorite guitar player and I listened to him during my school days around 2nd or 3rd grade, and I was very disappointed when I found out he died before I was born, I still to this day wish I had the chance to see him and Double Trouble play live and even meet with him. He's the reason why I picked up a guitar myself and one of my all-time inspirations... RIP Stevie Ray Vaughan.

Mad respect for Jimmie. Its about time SRV got what was owed to him. Being born in 83, I'm so thankful I got to grow up in what I call, "The last era of real music." Look at the crap on the mainstream nowadays. Modern technology is replacing modern instruments. Spinning the FM dial rarely results in anything worth more than the white noise of an open frequency as far as a listening experience goes. Music videos are full of racist, political propaganda, singers bragging how big their wallets are, etc. What happened to when music was just that, music? Something to get away from life's problems instead of instigating them. A way to have fun, make friends, or just enjoy life in general. They say history repeats itself. Well, I for one hope musical history does, and sooner than later. I'm doing what I can to keep Stevie's music and spirit alive as well as all the bands I grew up with and the one's before my time. Let us not forget. The music industry has evolved into a pile of fly infested fecal matter for the most part. Its time to hit the rewind button, folks.('scuse the rant)

My older brother and I saw the Fabulous Thunderbirds in 78 or 79 and we couldn't believe the band! We thought Jimmy was one of the baddest cats on the scene. And then Christmas of 1981 our oldest brother gave my older brother Texas Flood for Christmas and we were just floored! Couldn't believe that Jimmy Vaughan had this bad *ss little brother! To me he always seemed like he must have been an Angel sent to earth to help others and make people realize that they need to love each other and be good to each other and also show younger people what bad things drugs and alcohol do to you and how they will ruin your life! He was the most awesome guitar player I have ever heard!!! And he had such a beautiful heart and soul! He was just an amazing human being!!! He will never be forgotten by all his fans that loved him! Our beloved Stevie!!!! My heart just aches that we lost him at such an young age! I guess our Lord was ready for him to be in Heaven with him!!! To think I was lucky enough to see Stevie and Double Trouble with the Fabulous Thunderbirds in one show... I cannot remember what I did last week but I remember that evening like it was 5 minutes ago. What happened at the Thebarton theatre that night was like time stood still and the night was never going to end. For someone who is tone deaf and couldn't play an instrument to save my life... In that moment I thought anything in life was possible for I/we had been witness to the extraordinary.

I had a chance to see Stevie back in 1989 in Indianapolis and all I can say is , oh my god. He was an unbelievable man to watch play. What a talent!! I had a few of his records and tried to play along when I could ... I have to this day never seen someone play as passionately as that man. What a great loss the world experienced one year later. I will miss you and so will everyone else who has ever picked up a guitar. Thank you for your inspiration.

How about Stevie saying on a recording,, "This next song is the drummer's choice ! " If Stevie were here, he'd say, Jimmie is my big brother ! " In 1986, Ticketmaster misspelled Stevie's last name, omitting the last "a". I wrote to SRV and apologized on behalf of our cow town, and guess what ! That Christmas I got a Christmas card postmarked from Austin TX from SRV and Double Trouble ! The constellation card.... Had it matted and framed, a family heirloom....

Brought me to tears..... Stevie got me to REALLY HEAR the guitar in music. So much so that I ended up becoming a guitarist myself a little over 20 years ago. I agree with Jimmie it was Stevie's FIRE to play that really hooked people and drew them nearer. I only really became aware of Stevie's music around 1996. I can remember reading about how Eric Clapton had to remove himself from watching Stevie play so as to retain some of his ego and pride. He spoke of how Stevie was just an OPEN CHANNEL to something ethereal and very special.......

I remember driving home the day Stevie died and heard about it on the radio. I almost drove off the road. I was 19 then and looking back now it’s hard to believe he was only 35.

Jimmie thank you for signing my Gibson Flying V at Antones Labor Day 2010 and for hearing me & talking with me then. Although almost 7 years later, due to addiction I let that guitar go. .. But I now have a brand new one and also am clean agian but stronger than ever before. Stevie truly is my all time favourite guitarist and I have an older brother that like you brought me so much music growing up. For me first it was The Beatles then Deep Purple Mk1,2,3&4 then Skynryd and of course SRV & Double Trouble. I remember clearly that August day I was in Lansing Kansas for a bit when the unbelievably sad news came across the radio about your little brother and the accident. Being also a fellow Texan & guitarist we miss him too very much. His example of sobriety & clean from drugs for the remainder of his life is still very enduring & encouraging. I can not relate in words here what meeting you at Antones with my Gibson V you signed so big for me and what Stevie & Double Trouble and all his other family and friends have meant for me. Especially you and Tommy, Reese and Stevie for being clean. I have made so much progress in turning my life completely around in every possible way plus being of service to some others and been so enrichly blessed with work and health and peace beyond measure.
